The Joy of Colour

where you are sure to find one of a kind decorative home decor, gifts and accessories.

by The Joy of Colour
I worked as a textile designer for more then 20 years. I had my own design studio for funky printed T's for a couple of years. Then I worked for a leading company of socks and underwear for 16 years! .My work as a sock designer was great as I designed for mass, mid market and for brands like Nike,Hugo Boss, .... I traveled a lot to Europe and the USA, met some very nice people and got a lot of experience in design, styling, marketing...

2 years ago I felt I'm not as creative as I was and less happy with travelling, so I knew it was the time to make some changes in my life.I left the comfort and security of a big international company and took the time to think "What do I want to be when I'll grow up"? (at the age 50!) The answer was getting back to paint & brushes,to hand knitting and creating one of kind pieces. As friends saw my work they recommended me to start selling and then the way to Etsy was short.

In my Etsy Shop I express my love for colors in decorative objects (flowers, containers, napkin rings) I create. You'll find also fashion accessories that are based on my clay flowers. I've been selling on Etsy for about 8 months, and now I know it's going to be a long journey till I can say this is how I make my living, But it is such an interesting route, and I believe that selling online is a fantastic solution for crafters and artists to show and sell their creations.

Designer Knit Trends and Fashions

Lana O'Neill is the creator and designer for KnitBerry.com site. She has a passion to make stylish accessories for women. Her designs "come from intense research of fashion and seasonal trends and color. I pick my favorite designers, which for this Fall 2009 season are Marc by Marc Jacobs and Chanel. I then decide what type of hat or scarf would go with their runway outfits, and that's how I create my items. " Enjoy a visit to her stylish Etsy shop http://www.knitberry.etsy.com/ and her website http://www.knitberry.com/ .
Don't forget to have a peek at her adorable children's knits too.

KnitBerry.com website started 2 years ago with primary focus on handmade knitwear for children. Many people saw what I have made for my little kids and wanted me to make them the same thing. But I also had a passion to make stylish accessories for women. That is what I am primarily making now and of course I cannot forget about the kids so I design fun hats and make outfits as special orders. I knit just about anywhere - at home, in the car (while my husband is driving), while I wait for the kids to get off school, on vacation... I knit when I get inspired, and that can happen just about anywhere, so I always make sure to bring my knitting needles, and a notebook, just in case I need to sketch a design while it's fresh in my head.

My favorite needles to use are the circular needles. Many people ask me why do I use two "needles on wires" and it is because it is easier to measure the knitted item. It is also easier on my hands, because on straight needles the knitted fabric seems to weigh down on my wrists. Lately, because of so many projects, my hands have been suffering. I am trying to limit my time knitting and that also means choosing most meaningful projects to make, since I can only make so many. My designs come from intense research of fashion and seasonal trend and color. I pick my favorite designers, which for this Fall 2009 season are Marc by Marc Jacobs and Chanel. I then decide what type of hat or scarf would go with their runway outfits, and that's how I create my items. Hope you enjoy wearing them as much as I enjoy making them!

A Cozy Cluttered Corner

I absolutely love oo0oSUGARo0oo 's name. I think it is a perfect fit to her sweet and
delectable creations. If you are looking for a burst of colour and happiness...be sure to visit her shop.

"I create in a really cluttered, but cozy room, a corner of my bedroom. It is not nicely decorated like many rooms of designers or artists but it works for me. My working table is always full of materials whether I am working on my fabric cutwork or making beaded jewellery. To be honest, I never grew up having my bedroom nice and tidy. I was never proud of it. But I do feel better when I went to art school and found out that many creative people are the same and that I am not just very lazy. (or maybe I am? Hahaha…)

Ilove to wear and make my own jewellery when I was in high school so I got into university for jewellery design. But during second year, I realized that I have no interest in making silversmith jewellery. I found out that I need to see more colours so I switched my major to fibre art and start working with paper and fabric in rainbow colours. I love to draw flowers, leaves, plants, fruits, anything organic.

I also like to do pattern design. The flower and bird patterns of my fabric cutworks all came from my line drawings.
Many of my inspiration come from wondering in the park, staring at plants, flowers, and tree, and more, daydreaming about colours, and much much more.Right now, my goal is to create things that would add a fresh, happy and bright colour whether at home on the wall, against a person’s skin, or on any wearable items."
