Pretty crazy at this time next week i will be home. Seems like everyone is doin great. Its gettin pretty exciting and hard not to think about what its going to be like when I'm home and things but we are really lucky and we are staying pretty busy and found a few new people to teach so that's pretty awesome. That's a bummer Riley is grounded. That's awesome that Logan found a concert in Vegas you should have told me who it was haha. That sucks that jazz lost, I really wanted to watch them play but oh well better luck next year. Thats sweet that you guys got my room done. I'm anxious to see what you guys did haha. Good to hear Max and Trent are excited to see me. They are invited to the airport if they would like. That's a pretty cool design for the Gilbert temple that dad sent that would be neat if dad got that one. But its pretty crazy to start wrappin things up. On Monday I go to the mission office and will be interviewed in the morning by the pres., then ship home my bike and stuff i just found out that will only cost 32 dollars so.. and they gave me money to pay for luggage and stuff so no worries, but i will be down in one of my old areas for the 2 days i'm in Tempe. so that will be cool. and on teusday we go to the temple and have a party for all the missionaries who are goin home so i think it will be pretty cool. we have had some really good lesson with the harris family they all made the decision that they are going to be baptized on the same day so thats kind of a bummer that i'm not going to be able to see them get baptized that would be my only complete family but oh well. they asked me yesterday if it would be possible they get baptized the monday before i left but i will be gone haha. and they have some word of wisdom issues to work out. everyone else we are working with is doin good some of them are pretty close to baptism but things never go the way you would wish or else we would have seen a few more baptisms this transfer but no complaints. it brings great joy just bein able to do the good work. but i dont think i have much else to say but i love all you and thanks for the support and examples. i have learned the greatest qualities from you guys so thanks again and will see you soon.

Garr failed to mention that last Saturday he had a little accident and totaled his mini van. As a result he has a brand new one and he lost his driving privileges. We found this out today from his phone call. No injuries!

May 5 email:
man it seems like everyone is having a good time. pretty jealous of mom and dad killin it in hawaii man that would be cool if the fam went over there again. thats sick the jazz advanced and they better beat the lakers so i can see my boy paul dominate. thats cool that there was a big fight this last week and my friends all came out had a good time. im pretty excited to see all you guys and have some good times seems like it will be pretty fun. sometimes its hard to stay focused but i think i should make it. thats good that logans ankle is doin good. we are emailing late today cuz we had an amazing p day. one to rival that of the phillippines. we went and discovered some lava tubes that had water in them and all. it was pretty cool i got some pretty good pics the family will definitely have to come through them again. things are going real good the work is continuing to pick up and are investigators are doin good. we had a bunch come to church and they are inviting their friends out and things so thats way cool. troy got baptized it was a really good baptism. the machado and the harris families are doin great we should have both of them on date within the next lesson and and a few new investigators too. its hard to write anything cuz i will just talk to you on sunday and then like a week later in person so.... but we will probably call around 4 oclock cuz we have church from 8 tell then so... if thats not going to work i guess you could call and we could figure out but we will plan for 4 to 4 15 nothing too funny or crazy actually i did have a third world experience you could say. i was privileged to go on an x change over at the reservation.. it was crazy everyone was drunk it was really like the phillippines really run down it was funny to talk to the people though they would start to cry when we would talk about Jesus. it would be cool to serve out there full time but tough too. then that morning the missionary i was with took an hour long shower so i even had to take a freezing cold shower. i even forgot my toiletries so i didnt have deodorant to put on and had to leave my contacts in so my eyes were about to fall out in the morning and ever since then my eyes have been jacked up so i wear my glasses which have a bad prescription in them so i can see as good as i would like. so thats the experience. that brings me to ask a favor to set up and eye appointment right when i get home. so its been another good week i hope you guys keep enjoyin yourselves and talk to you later love you and all you do

crazy cows

Well hello Mandy. Thus far you are the only email i have to reply too. so.. that is pretty crazy that Masha is engaged. Who is she marrying. That is a bummer that Musclehawk has lost again. cant be havin that. that is amazing that the jazz are up 3 to one i hope they can pull it off. thats not good that the weather is gettin bad up there. down here it has been real nice. today is a little windy. but yesterday was 75. so things are really nice here. the work is going a long pretty steady. troy is gettin baptized this thursday and is way excited. so that should be a good time. the machado family is doin really good we had a lesson last night and taught the plan of salvation. they loved it but, dont feel confident enough in the book of mormon's truth so they didnt except baptism yet but this friday im sure they will. they havnt came to church yet so i wont get to see them get baptized but they way solid. the harris fam diidnt come to church ms harris got sick but we have a lesson tomorrow we might be able to get them to be baptized the week i go home. and roni has finally came back in town and she is ready to get on board and we found out she went to stake conference the other week and really liked it so she could go before i leave too. but a few of our investigators are slippin away its interesting to see how some peoples hearts arent soft enough but as they are continuously exposed to the church and people who live they way they should in the church they end up joining the church. the best news of the week though. we went to church and my favorite lady monique was sittin there and she told us that she has been healed and she is 100 percent better so thats awesome. we had a lesson with her yesterday and things are going real good with her she is going to go back to france and pay her family a visit so thats cool. we had a funny lesson with a recent convert and his fam and his lil sister is 6. probably the cutest girl i've met. her name is zoey and to start the lesson she had to tell us that satan told her to do something really bad. and she proceeded to say that she was eating dinner and her mom told her to finish her food and she just walked over to the garbage and threw it away and she said that satan told her to do that and now she's in big trouble. so that was a good time and later in the lesson with a sad face she asked if we could stop talking about Jesus cuz when we do it makes her think that he is going to die again so her grandpa told her he will never die again. the only other exciting stuff i can think to write about are the crazy cows we live with. we live on like 10 acres of land and there's 2 cows and just on the other side of the fence is like 10 cows and the the last 2 mornings our 2 cows have been going crazy i think its mating season or something but we have been trying to study and they run around and moo the whole time. they sound like dinosaurs. its pretty crazy. but this morning i called them right up to our window it was pretty crazy. so thats provided us with some quality entertainment. but i think that is about all i have to write. i did receive the envelope of pics and im sending them back today. i have one request. the pic of the blacktism. that means the girl that is black that got baptized if you could send me a pic or 2 of that they didnt have a camera and i forgot to print some copies for them. that would be much appreciated. i think that is all i need thought thank you for all the love. have a great week. love elder knaphus

Coming Home May 19th

April 21 email:
hello everybody. that's pretty crazy i haven't got my itinerary yet so sorry i wasn't able to let you know when i get home but that's cool i get home at 10:10. little America would be an awesome breakfast haha. but i have been making some pretty mean omelettes. some members give us free eggs from their chickens so that's been pretty good. to make sure i answer mandy's questions my comp is a pretty good guy cant complain. i haven't got the cds approved yet. but this weekend i will so... but it seems like everyone is having a great time back home. that's a bummer that team musclehawk lost game one, cant be having that. that's good to hear that the jazz are 1 and 1 with the nuggets they better win so i can see them play. thats cool that dad got to go to the open house of the vancouver temple there is one just opening down here the hila valley one but we don't get to go to far away i think. and the dedication is just after i go home so.. but things are going good here we are still staying busy having a grand time. troy is still doin great the lord has taken the desire to chew away and the marriage is saturday and baptism will be on thursday so that will be awesome. roni is having some family problems in cali so she has been down there for a while but we should be able to get her back on track hopefully get her baptized this transfer. the harris fam has some family emergencies too had to go the the valley for a few days but hopefully we will get them back on track get them on board for this transfer too. then we picked up a new family the machado fam. way nice people no husband but the kids are 12 13 and 16 and the 16 yr old kid loves the gospel already and has a great understanding for the book of mormon and they all love the lesson really appreciative so maybe they will be baptized too. daphne adams came up with some interesting concerns last week but came to steak conference and the pres laid it down said that the book of mormon resolves all concerns and it seemed like she liked it we teach her tomorrow so... we are teaching a few other people too but not as close to baptism and also a few less active peeps too so its been fun. i cant think of any crazy stories that have happened the last little while but my comp is waiting on me so i wouldnt want to frustrate him so i got to go

Birthday Boy

April 15 email:
well hello sorry i didnt email yesterday. we were out with the patriarch. the guy we live with, he took us out to his ranch and saw some cool indian stuff. but it seems like all is going well. back home, preppin my room and stuff. that sounds exciting. dad hasnt emailed for the last 2 weeks whats up with that. i guess thats a good sign meaning he's busy. i did get my package and i think the watch is awesome. thanks so much for the b day package and letter. kinda crazy taht im 21. now i can go to concerts in bars. thats going to be exciting. it was a good b day. everything is going great here dont have a lot of time. we are going to go to some more service for good old jay lebow. he has givin us quite the collection of things. last time he gave me a painting and today we get another one. so i will have to hang them in my room they are pretty cool. he gave me an old school pack of b ball cards too. and so on. he's awesome. the couple at wal mart are troy and megan. we have had a few lessons with them. theyre doing great. gettin married the 24th and baptized the 29th and he is doin really good with quittin chew. monique is not doin good. we are supposed to have a lesson today but she went to the doc the other day and he said she doesnt have very long to live so thats sad but good thing she has the gospel. last night was pretty cool we picked up a family of 4 but no dad the machado fam. the spanish missionaries found them and they speak english so the lesson went great they were all open and accepting. then the harris fam another fam of 4 but the dad is stubborn. came to church and all seems like they are really progresssing so that was awesome. daphne adams is kinda struggling. it lookas like she is looking for excuses to not commit to baptism but. we will keep layin the spirit on her. then had a way good lesson with a 15 yr old named layne. really good kid. his 2 sisterrs are members and mom said she would make a good member so they should be coming to chuch and have onther lesson sunday so that looks real good too. so things are going great staying busy having a fantastic time. hope all is well back home. thats pretty crazy it snowed. yesterday out at the ranch it was 70 and my neck got way sunburned so i can barely move haha. but oh well. love you guys so much. have a great week.

last transfer

April 8 email:
well hello. things are good here is arizona. talked to you guys a lil bit yesterday but my new comp arrived and his name is elder barker. he is a pretty cool kid from kaysville utah. i guess dad might know his dad chris barker he is i think a building designer who works for the church now so... he only has 4 months left on his mission so we are kind of in the same boat. but once again seems like all is well back home. you guys are having a good time staying busy and all. we are doin good i think its going to be a really good transfer i cant believe its my last one its not real to me. but the work is going good. roni is no longer gettin baptized on the 17th of april cuz of the word of wisdom but she has a good desire to quit and get baptized so hopefully it wont take as long as monique and she'll get baptized before i go. she's a neat lady. then we had a really cool experience at wal mart yesterday. one of our investagators. lives with his girl and we have taught him 2 lessons they went alright but he walked up to me and said they last night they had made some big decisions and that they were gettin married the 24 of april and baptized the 1st week of may and he wanted to make sure i was going to be there for it all so that was super cool. and everyone else is doing pretty good we are staying busy doing a good amount of teaching i feel good so far about this transfer we should be able to stay busy and have some fun. but we have a crazy schedule today we have a lot to do and not enough time to do it so i hope you guys keep enjoyin life. i definitely am and thanks for all the love.

Staying In Show Low!

April 7 email:
well hello i did not get transferred. my comp did so i will get a new comp tonight. so thats pretty exciting. show low is my last area. i will be emailing tomorrow so i will just keep it short. but it seems like you guys are having a great time. thats awesome that you can pray in spanish i wish i could. and i agree conference was amazing our prophet is the best. i really liked uchtdorfs talks as well. it blows my mind that they can give like 3 or 4 talks like that in one weekend. god always provides a way though. thats sweet that you guys have airfare too. man spain is going to be blast. thats is kind of a bummer that pepper is coming in july. yeah hopefully there will be some cool concerts in spain. easter was good. i got my package candy is great and i did a quick preview on the cd's sounds liike they are pretty good we go to the valley for a zone leader council friday hopefully the misson pres's wife will approve them. but thank you guys for sending that. awesome to hear the jazz are tearin it up. hopefully they will keep it up. and thats sweet that theyre makin a movie on my boy millsap. but things are great here in az its been crazy windy but good hearin from you love you guys and will email more tomorrow afternoon. elder knaphus

yeah matisyahu is my hero im praying that it will get approved. yeah its a bummer no more jay. we will help him pack all his stuff but it was funny i told him im going to spain and he says that i need to take pics of everything specifcally every meal i eat and then come back and show him it was funny. he's afraid to go on the plain so... go jazz !

This came in a letter from Garr this week:

"It is pretty crazy to think that the mission is coming to an end. It's funny to hear missionaries say they don't want to go home, but I think it's exciting to experience change. I even wouldn't mind getting transferred next week. That's probably the greatest lesson I've learned. That we shouldn't fear. If we're doing what is right we are going to have opportunities to learn and grow and experience Joy. Or we can let fear get to us and accomplish little. So that's my word"

March 31st email:
well hello it is super windy today as well. we have been doin some service all morning for our investigator Roni. she a pretty funny old lady. we have a lesson on friday and she is going to feed us after and we are going to give her a date to be baptized so that will be a good day. but it kind of sucks doing service on p day but thats how it goes. your not supposed to have any fun sometimes. thats fun that mom is re living the cruise experience that would be fun but there probably wont be the karaoke specialist. rob i think was his name haha. thats would be cool if dad did some of the work on those temples. yeah i agree that it will be kind of a bummer that i leave like a week after im home but its only a few months. and i hope you didnt get my arrival date wrong buts its the 19th i think you put the 16th. and it doesnt matter what sunday its all good whenever works best for everyone. yeah its pretty crazy transfers are next week. president said he thinks there is going to be a change made so.. it should be really interesting to see what happens. but things have been goin pretty good this last week. it was kindof hard with spring break but we are still staying busy teaching a few lessons a day so that is good and the wards are giving us a lot of support so thats cool. its neat to see members get fired up. but most peeps are scared. but we have a pretty big teaching pool right now we should start seein a good amount of progression so that will be good and a few baptisms should come for next transfer. but its hard to narrow it down to any specifics right now. sad news with are good friend jay lebow. we have a lesson with him tomorrow so that will be good. then he's moving down to the valley and is going to be there for like 6 montsh and is going to meet the missionaries down there so thats sad cuz im selfish and want to see him get baptized up here. he would go down as probably the coolest baptism but.. what can you do. maybe i will get transferred and he will move into my area haha. well once again i think everything has been pretty normal around here. but its pretty cool that it is easter weekend and we have conference. thats always a good time for missionaries. i wonder if anything crazy will be said i always hope so but... well i hope you guys all enjoy you week oh and for softball shirt i wear a 2xl thanks for all the love you guys have shown me how to share the love with others. have a happy easter love elder knaphus

March 24 email:
hello. how are things goin. everything is good here. got to go to the temple this morning. so that was a good time. good to hear that trent and fill did good on their talks. that would be way cool if you could send a recording of them. and that would be sweet if trent scott and tom came down. that will be fun that you guys are goin on the cruise i forgot that riley was doin that. it will be fun is the rest of the family doin anything fun. the weather has been pretty good here. yesterday got cold again but today is nice. it will be cool if i get to enjoy this weather the rest of my mission but you never know. transfers are not far off it will be interesting to see what happens. thats good to hear that dad workin with the church hopefully he gets some temples. there is a kid here who is mentally challenged but loves temples. he knows everything about every temple. people give him stone and things from temples. its pretty cool he has old nauvoo stone. and has a horn from one of the oxen and things. maybe if dad has a small piece of stone from a temple layin around he could send one down and make this kids day. but thats awesome that mandy and fill are doin good. having fun staying busy. i will be sending some more pictures home this week. thanks so much for sending the hair gel or product its the best. thats a bummer to hear that i will only get to play 2 games of softball. but oh well theres always next season right. and it will be cool to be in spain and awesome if mandy and fill came out to visit. but things are goin a lot better. its been pretty cool to see the progress happen. you just have to be patient and keep working and it will come. we have already had a few real good lessons this week and a few more to come. we are teachin a neat lady named roni. she is and old little lady who was the chief of police in california. she is so sweet though and we have taught her 2 lessons. and she has loved them and believes the book of mormon is true. so we are going to give her a date to be baptized in april maybe on my b day. that would be pretty cool. and a bunch of our other investagators are coming around so it looks like next transfer is going to be really good. if i stay we should end with a bang so... i cant remember if we have had any exciting or funny stories this week. but its good to hear from all you guys. i got a package from one of my old companions from canada. he send me a beannie and shirt from the olympics, some good canadian candy bars, a bob marley calendar and some ties so that was way cool. and then i got a real good letter from andy this week. its going to be crazy to see all of these kids again. but i love you guys so much. thank you for all the support and love your the best

March 17 email:
hello how is everyone doin in slc. the weather in show low is like 70 degrees today so thats awesome. and this morning we have been doin some service for my man jay lebow. he will be the sweetest convert ever. he hooked me up with a pair of pink skis and poles their 205's so those will be sweet to cruise on. he also gave me some funny russian amber pyramid so thats pretty cool i got a pic with him and the pyramid. but it seems like you guys have had a great week. seems like the party was pretty awesome. a crazy amount of people showed up. we had a dinner with this indian guy and his fiance who was a phillipina from manilla so it was fun to talk to her about everything and she says she is going to make us some phillipino food next time but she was really excited for the fight. and the next morning they invited us to their weddin so that was pretty fun. got to spend last saturday morning chillin with a bunch of indians. thats cool that you guys have seen trent quite a bit he wrote me and him and tom and scott are thinking about visiting az that would be pretty sweet. but everything down here is going better we are finally doin more teaching found a few pretty promising people so it should be good. on saturday we contacted a ref that she said she needed some service done and she asked us why are there so many church's so we taught her the 1st lesson and she was excited to read the bom and said she would be baptized is she found out it was true. then we talked to a 15 yr old he has 2 sisters that are mormon and his mom isn't she says she isnt ready but he is so we have a lesson with him tomorrow and all his friends are members so thats pretty cool. last night we had a a real good lesson with ty woolford we have worked with him since i got here hadnt taught for a few months but he is goin to try it out again and his parents are really supportive this time and had really good fellowship. we have another lesson setup with zak edwards the kid who is atheist and his niece threw up he was pretty excited to meet with us tonight so hopefully that goes good. there are a few others too so it feels good to do some more teaching and we have still been working with the recent converts their doin good monique is doin better she is back on her meds and things and she said that she has no desire to smoke anymore so thats awesome. i got to go on an x change out in st johns the other day so that was fun. had a few good lessons. saw a few people that i knew from before. got to go do some service for chad, the guy who took us bear hunting so it was cool to see him again. but other than that i cant think of a whole lot to say. i do have a request im running a little low on hair product so... oh and i received the cookies and they are incredible! i cant think of anything else that i need but i love you guys for all you do you are the best. thanks and have a great week.

hello. man is that crazy or what that you guys will be kickin it with boxie tonight. you will have to give him a hug for me. but it seems like you guys have been having a good time. this week things have been crazy not much time to write but i love you guys, you are the best. im excited to get some more cookies. there is no cookie like yours. but im trying to eat somewhat healthy. i lost another 5 pounds. you guys cursed me i got sick over the weekend and had the worst diarhea and threw up and stuff. the first time ive had to stay in. it was a bummer but i lost 5 pounds haha. but thats cool that you guys are going to the sports mall. im pretty jealous of the boys going and seein boon dock saints maybe, they will have to take their guns to the showing. thats pretty crazy that shamu ate someone. things have been kind of frustrating here the last little while. but thats how it goes sometimes. we have picked up 2 new people so thats good one of them we tracted into him and his wife is a less active member and he is athiest but he was asking us questions and thought it was pretty cool that we serve missions and asked us to share our message if it was so important. so the lesson went pretty good but my companion teaches what is called the eternal principle. like 15 minutes long when its supposed to be maybe 5. then we picked up a lady named nancy her husband is a less active member and she is super nice. works with a stake president i unfortanantly wasnt able to go to the lesson cuz i was chillin on the toilet all night but we visited the day after and gave her a book of mormon and she seems to be doin good. but other than that we have just been teaching members tryin to motivate and sometimes i think its impossible last night we had dinner with the stake pres and he gave us the excuse that he doesnt ever meet new people. so it was sad to see a stake pres that doesnt understand that god can give you a missionary opportunity if you want it and pray for it but, we have been having some good lessons teaching the recent converts that we have. but we also had a sad experience with monique. showed up to teach a lesson and she her ash tray back out with smokes in it. she's struggling cuz she's gettin a new grill and before she has the surgery she has to get her blood thickness up and so they took her off her bi polar depression meds so she is strugglin but had a good lesson and she'll be alright. we dont have anyone that is that close to baptism. we have a lesson with dafne adams tonight and maybe we will be able to work out a date for her. but we also have a lesson tonight with another part member family so we might get another new investagator. so that would be nice. so slowly but surely the work is coming. the weather has been crazy one minute its raining the other snowing then raining. last night there was a blizzard we could barely drive and got like 5 inches in a half hour but now its pretty much all melted so its pretty crazy. but the story of the week that athiest guy that we tracted into. at the very end of the lesson it was pretty funny. he accepted to read and pray and was excited to find out if god was real and things. then his neice that was asleep on the couch next to him stood up looking like a zombie and stood there for a second then threw up in the middle of the room. didnt say anything, then she walked thru it and threw up again in the other room. so we had a good laugh said the closing prayer and got out of there. but other than that i dont have much else to say but i did get the pic of riley at the dance with hannah. pretty sweet. and he's rocking my amazing pants from the phillippines. lookin good. well i love you all and hope everyone has a splendid week.

March 2 email:hello everybody. how is it going. that is no good that every one has been sick. i have been lucky that i have never been too sick to work. that also is a bummer that oly choked again. good to hear though that the jazz are still tearing it up and thats pretty funny that chad is on dancin with the stars. he will probably win it. thats way crazy that trent comes home a week from today. time flies. oh to make mandy happy i sent the picuteres on monday so they should be arriving shortly. thats cool that the steak is doing the rescue and dad has a big part of it. it will be interesting to see if he can do some persuading and get em to church. who is it. its pretty crazy how many people are less active. thats funny that riley will be accompanying you to parent teacher conferences i remember those good old days. im excited to recieve some more cookies i dont think i need much else i could use another bag of mangoes. that would be awesome. but things are going rather slow around here i dont know why. its kinda weird cuz we are working just as hard if not harder and hardly anything has happened. we have had all are lessons cancell except one and everyone we stop by isnt interested all the people we talk to on the street are old and have already been saved or just want to tell us of their incredibly long boring life stories. so we are trying to be as diligent as possible trying not to doubt and staying busy, remembering the importance of everything and the good lord will eventually bless us. this morning we got a way sweet potential though. his name is Jay Labou a member called us up and has been working with him. he's going thru a divorce so we helped him move but, he wants a book of mormon and to take the lessons. he is a pretty funny dude he has long curly red hair and he wears spandex and moon boots, from the east coast. if you can imagine. he will be a way cool guy to teach. kinda crazy i believe i told you guys about john last week he lost the faith and said he didnt want to be baptized but he showed up to church and said he's back and still wants to be baptized. so he was interviewed and has to be interviewed again by the mission pres but john hasnt called us since the interview so who knows what will happen.but other than that the only teaching we have been doing is with members tryin to get them fired up and understanding the importantce of member missionary work and teaching recent converts. but i do have a pretty good story of the week. so last saturday we went to a baptism that my companion was speaking at. and we were walking out of the church and someone honked the horn i didnt see anything though so we were about to take off and a car came cruisin and parked in front of us so we couldnt leave and it was full of girls. we didnt know what was going on. so an older lady got out and 2 really attractive girls got out and the lady introduced us to the girls and proceeded to say that they were foreign exchanged students one from norway and one from switzerland and they were going around gettin pictures of everything that they wanted to remember from az. and they wanted to remember the missionaries. so we got pictures with 2 good lookin european chicks. too bad i didnt have my camera. but it was cool they said they are going to take the missionary lessons back home cuz you cant convert exchanged students. i think that is about all i have thank you guys so much for all the support and love.

well hello. how are you guys all doing this fine day. i didnt get transferred or my companion so.. but i think it should be alright its not as bad cuz i started driving the car again haha i dont have ride along going 10 under all the time. so it will be interesting to see if i spend the rest of my mission here that would be quite a long time 7 1/2 months but i think i could do it i like it up here. seems like you guys are having a good time. enjoying the olympics and things. thats cool that fill is tearing it up in ward ball hopefully they can take the chip. mom is having a good time with her scripture class and yoga. dad is staying busy with work lookin at some temples that would be pretty sweet. one of the bishops has a son who is 28 and he has mental handicaps but he is awesome and he knows everything about temples and i told them that you work on temples and he got really excited. thats fun that you are still talking to kelly she is awesome i havnt heard from her for a while you will have to tell her hi for me. thats good to hear also that you are spoiling the missionaries. its awesome one of our ward mission leaders has been down in the valley for the last 2 and half months and he takes care of us realy well and he's hilarious we are going out with him tonight to teach some lessons so it should be a good time. tahts pretty crazy that the gibson came home early and a crazy reason i heard about those missionaries dieing i think in romania thats pretty sad stuff. but thats good to hear that everything is going good with oly and utah for b ball as well. i will be home for the nba championship series so i would love it if the jazz made it. and yes that will be interesting to see if oly will choke in the playoffs as usual. who is playing good on oly and the jazz. thats funny that moses is gettin castrated on friday we saw some 2 week old puppies the other day they were pretty cute and we also saw some baby pigs the other day that was pretty funny i got a really good picture of me holding a pig. i finished another card off so i will try to get it in the mail today. but things have been going pretty good. we had a really good baptism of the half black. brittinay. hopefully she will stay active now with her parents being so bad. but i think if she stays involved witht te young women and things she will be fine. most of it is friendship. you were asking about advice for working with less actives. its all about friendship and invitations. its not scary to invite your friend to hang out. so it should be scary to invite your friend to ward party to hang out and then on the hanging out at church. you just cant be afraid of building friendships. the one of the most frustrating things about missionary work is we can only build a limited friendship. its up to the members to befriend them and help them out and continue to invite them to activities and church and things but most members dont understand thats what non members and less actives need. thats my advice. but the work has been pretty slow now but, the good thing with us staying together is that we know what it is that we need to do to improve and work on the get things rollin along with peeps to teach. i think i told you about john who wanted to be baptized the 6th of march well he called us the other day and said he lost the faith and things that he feels God isnt helping him enough we tried to talk him thru it but theres something wrong with him that we dont know i guess. but there is a realy cool member who is still going to try to contact him and get him to church. then we had a really good lesson with the adams. dafne has really been enjoying chuch the last little while and she is praying and feelin the spirit. she bought her husband and son nice sunday clothers so they dont look like punks and hicks anymore. so we gave her a baptism date this week for mar 13th. she is awesome she is cutting our hair today too, so that will be nice. then we had a good lesson last night with a part member named scott and he has been thru a lot and has met with missionaries and feels that its were he needs to be but has a smoking problem so hopefully we will be able to get him to come around. there is a few other peeps that we are working on but we are really trying to find new investagators and workin close witht the members. i do have a pretty funny story this week we ate with one of our ward mission leaders houses 2 times this week and they are older and one time we were standing up to leave and his wife farted. so that was petty hilarios then, the next night his grand kids were there and they were talking about his shower and how its really nice and has 2 shower heads and he went on to tell us how him and his wife shower together but not too often and things and i was dying i started to laugh. but it made for a good night. other than that we got another few inches of snow so that was a good time all is going good trying to stay busy and have a good time love you guys all so much thanks for all the love and support.

Hola, how are things going this fine morning. Things are going great here in Show low. The weather is amazing, its about 50 degrees and sunny so i don't even have to wear a jacket today. There is a black thug that is sittin next to me in the library and he is lookin at hand guns haha. Seems like you guys have been having a good time watching the olympics. I havnt seen anything i did hear the a guy on a luge died thats pretty crazy. but that is cool that mandys friend won a bronze. thats kinda funny that Canada doesnt have enough snow. they will have to come back to utah. but things are going pretty good here. we had a dinner the other night with a older couple and they served in the barcelona spain mission and they know matt chase their name is the nields you will have to ask matt about them. but the work is going pretty good it really hasnt picked up much. we have brittini riggins baptism this saturday so that should be good. and her mom is supposedly gettin me some ray ban sunglasses so thats sweet too. and we also finally were able to give good old john a baptismal date for the 6 of march he is pretty excited he has been through a lot in life he's the one who was in prison and things and so he will need to be interviewed be our mission pres so hopefully everything will go good with that. but we still have been having a lot of lessons cancel on us so thats frustrating its just been a tough transfer im sure it will pick up we are puttin forth good effort so its just a matter of time. transfers are next Wednesday we find out on monday so it should be interesting to see what happens. the mission pres said in my interview anything could happen i could stay here the rest of my mission or or get transferred my last one you never know it will be exciting to see. but i wouldnt mind a change in companion. i cant think of any crazy or funny stories that happened this week but i loove you guys for all that you do hope you have a great week

Bigfoot Sighting and Chastity got baptized!

hello how are you guys doing things are goin great here in show low. we just got back from a nice trip to the temple with brother crocket the guy we live with. he's awesome he's the stake patriarch. then we helped him get the shell off his truck then he showed us his gun collection. it was pretty cool. next we we are probably goin out to his property by st johns i guess he has some caves on it and cool hieroglyphics. but it seems like you guys had a great time with the super bowl and i got mandy's letter with the pictures and the basement looks awesome im pretty excited but the yellow is kinda crazy. i makes me wonder whats going to happen with my room. haha logans turned out baby blue. thats a bummer though that no one in the family won any money. i could have used it with that ticket. let me know how much it was i will send the money. thats neat that mom is taking a pearl of great price class i have never read the pgp. but i just started reading a chapter of the old testament a day and it references moses a lost so i pretty much read it too. but the old testament is pretty interesting but i have pulled some pretty good stuff out of there. thats good to hear that mub is doing good with ward ball. hopefully they can take the championship. and i am definitely down for softball. i will have to miss the first few games i guess. well things are going pretty good here. we had chastity's baptism last saturday and it was really good. i got to baptize her. and she had a lot of people there to support her a few non members. so we will probably just have one more baptism this transfer and that will be brittini. on the 20th they were out of town this weekend so they werent at church but i talked to brittini's step mom who she lives with dad and he is going to yell at brittini's step mom and tell her to go to church so we can get her baptized. its tough to see someone who loves the church but they have some one else hold them back. other than that we dont have anyone else that is too close. and we are having a lot of our lessons fall thru. i think everyone this week has. so i think maybe we are working with the wrong people. but we found some really good new investigators its a family but only the 2 kids came to church but they loved it and are excited about everything. so things should go well with them. but other than that there hasnt been too much going on i think the only crazy news is that there has been some big foot sitings on the indian reservation. so we have the missionaries that go down there prepared and they are going to get some pictures of the tracks i guess. i think that is about it and my companion hasnt even started to write emails yet he just reads and re reads them like 20 times pisses me right off. the only way i can describe him its like being companions with a 12 year old girl if you can imagine. transfers are coming up so it that will be nice hopefull there will be a change made but he thinks we will be together for the rest of my mission. i did get that sweater and i do like it but its hard to wear cuz its not a v neck so you cant really tell im a missionary but i dont think i need a different one cuz transfers are soon and i might leave and its not a big deal anyways but i love you guys so much. thanks for all the supports hope you guys have a great week

hey how are you doing today? im pretty out of shape when it comes to running. last week we played soccer and it killed me but it was way fun. we are playing again this week too. haha thats funny that its bye week for you guys. the super bowl will bbe fun though especially with the new tv and things i wont get to see any of it. but i did see chad johnson catch a pass in the pro bowl so that was sweet. but things have been going really good here. we had moniques baptism last saturday and it went great. she is awesome. it was funny we went over 2 days before the baptism to make sure everything was still good and we had a little tea party with her. never really had tea before but it wasnt bad i guess. this week we are supposed to have a baptism of chastity but she is pretty nervous we went over last night and she wouldnt talk about it but we will see what happens. then brittini didnt come to church again so thats ridiculous but we had a good lesson with her and the young womens pres came and she is plannin on gettin baptized the 20th of feb so that will be good she's reading the book of mormon too. it was awesome we are working with dafne adams we baptized her son but she wanted to wait and she hasnt been progressing much she came to church all by herself this week cuz her husband had surgery so that was cool to see her have enough of a desire to come to church. but other than that not a whole lot has happened we have a few good potentials that we have picked up but we really got to push hard this next little while so we can keep things rollin a long but its great hearing from you i love you guys so much for all the support have a great week and love elder knaphus

the van is a tank

hello. how are you guys all doing. things are going great here in the snow. last week is snowed like 2 feet it was awesome. the van was a tank we didnt get stuck once it was a miracle. the thing rides low but rides like a champ. it is supposed to snow another few inches tonight so that would be cool. but everyone complains about the snow. we help a lot of people shovel. its a good way to talk to people. it was funny last night we stopped and this old lady was trying to chip away at the ice on her drive way and she was 93 yrs old her husband is 99 she was really nice and funny but was stubborn in her old age like most people are. but thats kind of a bummer that you guys havnt got any good storms. have the boys done any skiing or anything it would have been amazing to go skiing there is a ski resort up here that got like 7 ft of fresh powder it would have been amazing. but the man cave or whatever its called sounds like its going to be pretty sweet. but i am rather sad to hear that you guys are fixing the wall no more butt print. but it will look good i think. thats sweet that riley is going to the dance with hannah that should be a fun one. but everything here is great. it was actually a pretty slow week for teaching cuz of the storm but everyone wanted to cancel on us we had like 12 lessons cancel last week. but we still have some really good progression with monique she is getting baptized this weekend and is excited its finally happening. the ward mission leader gave her nicorette gum and she hasnt smoked for 2 weeks. last week at church she stood up when he walked in and said loudly that she ought to kiss mr morgan, the ward mission leader. chastity is doing really good she is gettin baptized on the 6th of feb and is excited as ever she is having her mom whose not a member and a lot of inactive peeps and things that are going to be there so that should be sweeet. and then brittini is gettin baptized the 13th of feb. thats all that are really progressing. so thats 3 baptisms for this transfer and we are really pushing for a 4th and there are 2 kids that we have worked with ever since i got there and they will not come to church so we backed off but the last 2 weeks they have come to church so we have a lesson with them on monday so hopefully we can rope them in too. but other than that i dont think there is much else to write we have been staying busy having fun its going to be an interesting p day we are supposed to play soccer all day but my comp scheduled a hair cut in the middle of are soccer playing and im not going to let that happen. i havnt played any sports for pday for like at least 3 months. but he's a good kid and likes to do missionary work so cant really complain. thats crazy that tom dowdle is home you will have to tell him hi for me. but i dont think i really need much else right now the sweater will be awesome. some guy just started talked to us as we are emailing talking about prophets and he didnt think that calls prophets anymore so we are going to go to his house this week and talk to him but everything is going really good hope you guys have a great week. love elder knaphus

hello how are you guys all doing this fine day. we woke up to 6 inches of snow so thats always sweet. they say by the end of the week we are supposed to have 3 to 5 feet but i dont know about that. thats cool that you guys have been doing the basement. that will be sweet to come home too. and the upstairs living room purple. that will be groovy. but thats good thats keepin you and mandy busy. and great that mandy's tooth is doing better. thats good to hear that everyone is trying to get into shape. it will be nice to hit up the sports mall when i get home. but i have worked out every morning since Christmas so thats good. i feel pretty good. i heard spencer young is gettin married thats pretty crazy. to the girl that he dated in high school too. you will have to let me know when that is going to take place i would like to go to that. heard from trent that is so crazy that he is going to be home in 7 weeks. but thats awesome that fill will be speaking at his homecoming. thats pretty crazy that the jets are doing so good that would be pretty sweet if they won the super bowl them or the vikings. but things are going good here. my comp is a really good guy and he is a lot more laid back than i thought, a pretty funny guy. monique is doing great had a really good lesson with her and she hasnt smoked since last saturday! she is really excited. and chastity is gettin baptized this saturday. she was pretty nervous about it all but she prayed and got really excited so thats solid. but other than that its pretty much the same old same old we have made some good visits and are working with some good people but not a whole lot of progression yet. but its still awesome up here in showlow. we ran over a skunk the other day and then a wild turkey was really close. but nothin too crazy has happened this week really. but, i think i saw a ghost the other night. im not sure but i woke up in the middle of the night and it looked like my companion was dressed up in his suit standing against the wall but it wouldnt move or anything so i just went back to bed. i told my comp he got pretty scared but havnt seen anything else. i might have been trippin but you never know. i think thats about all the news for the week but for the sweater probably a medium thickness if thats possible. but i love you guys so much thank for all the support and love have a great week

well hello. how is everyone doing. things here in show low are pretty good. once again sorry for not bein able to email yesterday. it took forever for my comp to get her from the valley. but he is a pretty cool kid and a good missionary so it should be good, we'll see what we can do. his name is elder laporte he's from california san jose. but it seems like everything is going pretty good back home too. thats awesome riley is going on that trip that would be a blast. thats sucks too that the bengals lost better luck next year i guess. but things are all good here. our investigators are doing good. we got a good phone call the other night from chastity's mom. we put chastity on date for the 23rd and she was pretty nervous but her mom sat her down the other day and chastity prayed about it and stuff and she is super excited and things so thats way cool. then with brittini she is doing pretty good we had to move the baptism back a littel bit but what do you do. she is plannin on the 9th and she's excited. then monique is on date for the 23rd as well as long as she doesnt smoke. so keep her in your prayers if you would its been tough for her. and john is doing really good we had a good lesson the other night he's way cool and way solid. we have picked up some new investigators some more people who are a little rough but they are cool 3 guys and they all agreed to read and pray so hopefully they will do it. im trying to think if anything exciting has happened. im really tired so its hard to think while i dose off. but i think it should be a good transfer we will work real hard. it will be interesting to see if i stay here. you never know. thanks for everything once again i did receive everything from c mas the cookies were perfect and delicious. i dont think i need anything right now but i love you all so much and i hope you all have a wonderful week.

Jan. 6 email
well hello  it seems like you guys are having
a lot of fun ward ball started up thats good
to hear. i haven't played basketball for like
3 months now so thats a bummer no one up here
is very athletic. but it will probably change
quite a bit with transfers they are next wednesday
it will be interesting to see if i go or stay i
have no clue what could happen i guess chances
are a little more likely that i stay but you
never know.  thats fun that your still having
fun with moses, he's losin his teeth. the other
day we played with 4 puppies that were half wolf
half rot wiler they were really cute and playful. 
it will be fun to get some pics from you guys.
but things have been going great here been
having fun.  new years wasnt anything really
exciting just visited members and things had a
lesson during the day. didnt stay up or anything. 
we saw that the bengals got beat thats not good
hopefully they will get em in the play offs.
things are going pretty good here. we are trying
to pick up the pace with the holidays being
over but we have had like 6 lessons fall
through in 2 days. but we have had some really
good lessons. last night we watched a movie
about tom monson with john are investigator
and he's way solid and is 7 days without smoking
really wants to get baptized.  then had a lesson
with a girl named chastity her step mom is a
way cool member and her dad isnt a member but
we have taught her for a while and she finally
accepted a date for the 23 or jan and she's
really excited and it was cool too, in their house
they have a bouldering wall so after the lesson
we did some climbing but it was tough in my church
clothes. and she has this little kid who looks
just like a mini Chris sharma i will get a pic
of him climbing.  but sad news monique isnt gettin
baptized this week she wouldnt even talk to us but
we have a lesson on thursday so hopefully we will
be able to get her back on track.  then there is
brittany she is the 12 year old girl and we have
only had 1 real lesson with her and she wants to
be baptized but her parents are flaky so it
might take some time but she loves the church so
that will be awesome.  im trying to think of
anything exciting or funny that happened this week
but i cant really think of anything but i have a
little bit of a cold and its really hot in here
so its making me frustrated but thank you so much

Dec. 30 Email:
gayest computer ever. if you can guess i went to send a big long email and it didnt send so.. it will be shorter. but its been good we had a baptism day after christmas of sierra and maria bindley it went good except they hated the suits they had to wear that was pretty funny. got some good pics. and their moms old friend who isnt a member said the closing prayer. it was funny. we started teaching him and its going really good. he watches church on tv all day everyday so he has a bunch of hang ups but he says he would forget them all if you found out the book of mormon was true so that was cool. and he has a wolf. got some good pics of that too. monique is doin great had a good lesson she fed us italian cake and sparklin cider. and she's excited about her baptism the 9th and she's bringing her less active friends to church this week so thats cool. and teaching a bunch of other peeps but their not so close to baptism yet. had a good christmas went to a few dinners and tracting picked upsome good potentials. pretty funny story. we almost ruined our van. we got some new tires on it and their really nice. drives alot better in the snow and we were coming home from an apptmnt. and there is a big puddle that we have to go thru and we got stuck in it. and it took us like 10 minutes of going back and forth thru the ice and mud that was a foot deep to get out and the check engine light came on but it turned off so it think we are good. the muffler was under water the whole time but it was bubbling so i dont think or atleast hope water didnt get up there. but i think thats about it that happened this week i cant thank you guys enough for the love and gifts and things love elder knaphus

well its good to hear from you all and especially that dad is ok. good to hear that you got my christmas card and pictures. haha to do a little explaining. the house that is a mess is anothers missionaries appartment and we destroyed it becuase they did it to us it was pretty funny if you look close you can see a live snake hanging from the ceiling. the pictures of the pond is right outside of our windows one morning. the Christmas tree wasnt ours. ours is really nice. we were 4 wheelin out in the boonies of our area its fun out there the van gets super muddy. the big house in ahwatukee was larry fitzgeralds that snake that was around my neck was just some members that we ate dinner with. if you have any other questions with the pics fill free to ask. but good to hear that trent is doing good. it will be interesting to see what happens this transfer its already almost here it goes so fast. but we have been having a good time. thats nice mom that the your able to enjoy the relief of being done with shopping and it seems like its going to be a really good christmas for you all and me too i cant thank you enough for all the packages you have sent the food and everything is so delicous and im excited to open my presents as is my comp he thanks you guys and mandy too he loves the shampoo and says its already working. well things have all been good this past week. yesterday it started to snow and we got like 6 or so inches again so that is sweet we bought some nice innertubes and were going sledding again so that should be a blast. last sat was the baptism of justin adams it was really good. he was excited as can be and it was realy good for his non member mom to see. they gave us some christmas fudge that reminds me of mandy's and a little card that said thank you for the gospel and stuff so that was neat. we have a baptism of sierra and mariah bindley this saturday and their really excited. then monique the frenchy is still awesome. we had a good lesson with her yesterday and she told us how smoking is everything to her cuz she has had such a hard life its been her holy ghost so we are trying to get her to replace it with the gospel and give her things to do. but its tuff she said christmas is her last day of smoking. but other than that we have a bunch of other investigators but we havnt got them to progress towards baptism quite yet but things are still looking great we are getting a lot of support from members and things so its great. but its should be a good christmas with 2 baptisms the day after we have a few party's to go too. one of the bishops the ones that are knaphus relatives invited us over for c mas eve and theres going to be a bunch of food and games and stuff and a talent show and we have to be a part of it so me and my comp are going old school and he's going to bust out the trumpet and im going to bust out the clarinet so it should be pretty good. play jingle bells or something. but i think thats about all i have to report thank you for everything think i love you all so much thanks for the support and everything tell tammy i love her and her cookies once again i just picked them up from the post office this morning and am excited to try one as well as all the treat you guys sent me but have a beautiful christmas!! love elder knaphus

hello its good to hear from you. seems like everything is going great having a good time at bunko and things.. thats funny that dad went. man 20 things on the to do list today thats a lot but thats how most people are during the holidays i guess. and its kind of a bummer for us cuz the work slows down a little bit. but we are still staying busy. i received the packages that you sent im excited to see what they are thank you so much for it all. haha thats funny that your sending my comp some shampoo he'll love it. he's a pretty funny kid. a package with some homemade treats would be pretty sweet. man i love all your treats but i havnt had your big chocolate chip cookies for a while muddy buddies are amazing you know i love banana bread. toffee whatever you want to send but not too much cuz im trying to eat healthier remember haha. oh yeah and im not sure when she makes them but tammy's sugar cookies are incredible so if you could just remind her that that i love her and her cookies that would be appreciated. its hard to be healthy though especially around the holidays. seems like you guys are going to have a good christmas and christmas here should be good there is a lot of cool people that have invited us over and things. everything is going great its been a good week. we have been staying busy doing a good amount of teaching. justin adams is gettin baptized this saturday he's excited. his mom and brother arent there yet but, it was neat his brother is really against religion but he's come a long way and he's particapating in the lessons now and got mad at his parents cuz they didnt go to church cuz they were sick. he said if we are goin to go we got to go every week. so that was pretty cool. then we have the bindley girls that are on date for the day after christmas so that should be a way cool baptism. we had a good lesson with them yesterday. we had a really good lesson with a 13 year old girl. her mom just died but she is doing really good and came to church and loves young women she wants to know where and what her mom is doing and so we told her and how much god loves her and things and she really wants to read the book of mormon and go to church every day if she could so that was awesome. but those are the main people that we are teaching it was pretty funny today we went to the temple and they gave me a handicap robe thing so it was way small and short pretty funny everyone was laughing at me when i put it on. it was cool this week i went on an x change with a way cool missionary from new zealand. he is a really nice kid and he likes reggae like i do and stuff he said that i need to go down to his house and stuff and he would take me on a tour of new zealand and go to a reggae festival and stuff so i will probably have to take him up on it. he also taught me some really good card tricks so im going to buy a deck of cards today. but his companion is also really cool he's from utah but he's half eskimo half navajo but he likes a lot of really good music and he gave me some cds that he got approved. like sufjan stevens and iron and wine so. that would be awesome if logan or someone had some spare time made me some mixes of stuff like that and if the lyrics are appropriate and their chill then the mission pres's wife will approve them and then i would have amazing cd's instead of the same regular church music that every missionary has. thats would be amazing even some really chill reggae if you think it could be appropriate . oh we went down by the lake the other day and we got some really good pics that im going to try to make a christmas card with and we also saw 3 bald eagles they were on the tree right above us and all flew away it was neat. i think that is about it tell everyone i love them and mandy i have been writting a letter to you for the last few days its hard to find time sorry but i will finish and send it to you. but thank you so much for all the love and support you guys are the best love you so much and enjoy the holidays

hello how is everyone doing today. things are great here in showlow. thats cool you guys got some snow too. we got about 1 foot on monday it was fun to drive the mini van around in the snow but it struggled. it was supposed to get 2 ft of snow up here but it has stopped for now. but i have gotten some good pics and things that i will send home probably today and today we are going sledding so that will be fun. i have received all the packages i believe thank you so much, the tootie fruities are delicious but im trying to eat healthy,the cds are great thank you so much its always nice to listen to something new. im wearing the new garments today. and theyre great. the new shampoo i didnt think was approved by mandy but its doin the job it was funny i checked to see if it smelt good and it shot up my nose left me with a bad taste but... the gloves i use everyday cant thank you enough there and i used the jacket and i bought a winter jacket cuz it gets really cold at night im going to ask all the missionaries today if one needs that north face jacket. but the coat is doin the job i dont think i need any other sweaters or anything but thanks. im excited for chistmas you dont need to send a c mas tree or anything we have the lights and things. thats a bummer that mandy has had a crazy week and hilarios that logan worked at the er and had some choice experiences one of the members up here is the head doc at the er up here and he tells us some way funny stories. thats good to hear riley is havin a good time with his friends. keepin the hot tub occupied. seems like you guys have been enjoyin the holidays thus far with the shoppin and things it will be fun to receive gifts even when i get home!! thats fun that mom is tending adele i wish i could play with her there is a lot of cute kids but we cant play with them really or hold them haha mandy is never going to have kids. i believe she did say though before i left or something that she would be pregnant when i came home.but... thats crazy to hear spencer young is gettin engaged man thats pretty darn quick i wonder who the girl is if you know you should let me know. i do enjoy seeing the other kids blogs and things its coool. and good to hear that trent is doing ok i got a little email from him today. but quick question for mandy my comp is going bald and was wondering what is the best shampoo to prevent or help him with that. but im doin great my knees are hangin in there but i have kinda hurt them twice with the snow we were having a snow ball fight with some kids after a lesson and i slipped on the ice and hit my knees and then i was pushing a car and same thing but just little bruises from some fun. but things are going really good last week was a little slow for teaching but this week has been good so far we have some more peope who have accepted baptism dates. just one of the adams is getting baptized the 19th of december. but he loves the church. and then there the little french lady monique. she's so awesome we had a good lesson last week and gave her the date of the 19th too and she so she had to quit smoking today and on sunday she fasted for it and was all excited and pumped and she is doing amazing. then we put the 2 over aged youths on date for the day after c mas sierra and maria bindley sierra is really smart but they enjoy church and things. so the work is going really good we are teaching a lot and have a few new investagators that we are picking up this week and the recent converts are coming to chuch gettin callings and having a good time so its been really neat. things have been really good up here in show low i like it a lot thank you so much for all the love and support have a wonderful week
