I love to see the temple

We live very near the temple in Rexburg. Whenever we pass it (especially at night when it is all lit up and "glowing") Sadie calls out, "I can see the temple" and we usually break into a chorus of "I love to see the temple." Well tonight on our way home we were ooohhhing and ahhhing over the temple when Colby breaks in with, "I never want to get married!" I asked, "Why?" He answered, "Because of all the kissing! Yuck!"

Conversation about Death

I just had to record (for myself) the following conversation I just had about death with my 4 & 2 year olds.

Colby: When we die, we come back to life, right?
Me: No. When we die we are dead. That's the opposite of alive.
C: But we come back to life.
M: Well we can live again in heaven but we never come back to life on earth.
Pause.
Sadie: If I die...you won't have a Sadie anymore.
Pause.
S: You would have to buy a NEW Sadie.

Items left in your car

In Arizona, if you leave an item in your car what happens?? It melts. I don't care what time of year it is, if you leave something frozen or perishable in your car it will spoil or melt.

In Idaho, if you leave something in your car...say a 2 liter of soda that rolled under the seat and you didn't see it....it will freeze solid. Hard as a rock. It is crazy. My brother even pointed out to me that you can use your car as an extra freezer if you run out of space. Nice.

New frontiers

Having my first below freezing morning -- it was sad sending my kids out the door to walk to school in temps 5 degrees BELOW zero. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

Having life revolve around how many steps are in front of someone's house: Book Club, Trick-or-treating, even Visiting Teaching routes are worked around the matter of front steps. I didn't really realize why until I walked up a long set of slippery ones. Now I get it. Almost everyone here has a "war story" about a nasty fall they've had.

Finding ice on the INSIDE of my window. And not just frost...I'm talking ice chunks. Just thinking about that makes me shiver.

Getting stuck in the snow in my van. We just slid and slipped but couldn't get any traction to move forward. I was too afraid to do the driving (I've never driven in snow) so I volunteered to push...well I didn't have any real boots so I had worn cowgirl boots (in an attempt to at least keep the snow off my feet) well as you know cowgirl boots have NO tread so I ended up flat on my face...twice...before we gave up. Finally some 'good samaritans' took pity on us and pushed us out. Needless to say -- snow tires and real boots were purchased soon after.

That's all for now....but I imagine there will be more to come :)
