According to Israel National News: Israel’s withdrawal from UNESCO has gone into effect a year after it officially notified the international body that it would leave.
Israel announced at the end of 2017 that it would leave the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in solidarity with the United States, whose withdrawal also became official on Tuesday.It takes a year for the withdrawal to take effect.Israel and the United States will remain as observer states of UNESCO.
Israel, which joined the body on Sept. 16, 1949, has nine cultural sites on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites, including Masada, Acre, the White City of Tel Aviv, and the Necropolis of Beit She’arim.
In recent years, UNESCO has passed resolutions rejecting Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem, and placed the Cave of the Patriarchs and the Old City of Hevron in the State of Palestine on the list of world heritage sites in danger. It frequently refers to the Temple Mount only by its Arabic name, Al-Haram al-Sharif.
Between 2009-2014, UNESCO adopted 46 resolutions against Israel; 1 on Syria; and none on Iran, Sudan, North Korea, or any other country in the world.

They Drove Us Out

* * * Twenty five years ago I wrote a graphic novel called Trees, the Green Testament.
It was heralded as a book of prophecy and I was described as a prophet.
I was no less frightened than the prophet Jonah. He tried to escape the burden of his calling. What he did was to flee on a boat from the city of Jaffa. His attempt was thwarted by his being swallowed by a “great fish.”

I fled from my burden by turning my back on the book, getting on with cartooning, and ignoring the public’s demand for the book.

Now, as I approach the age of eighty, I recognize the error of my cowardly decision.
I am punished by seeing a world in which the Ten Commandments are a threat instead of a guide.
I am shaken by seeing Diaspora Jews condemning the Jewish State.
I am crushed by seeing Christian Churches accepting Replacement Theology, abandoning Israel, and ignoring the genocide of Christians in Africa and the Middle East.
I am horrified by the antisemitism of western colleges and universities.

Now, as I approach the age of eighty, I have republished Trees in an annotated edition (the original but enhanced by explanations of much of the book’s hidden messages.)

Israel, UNESCO, and Uncle Sam

According to Israel National News:

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced Thursday night that Israel will be exiting the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) over the organization’s anti-Israeli bias, following a similar announcement by the Trump administration.

UNESCO's board is set to meet next week and had announced that the anti-Israel resolutions it had intended to bring to a vote would be postponed for six months. This is seen by sources as a possible attempt to stave off the actions of the US and Israel.

Netanyahu’s statement came just hours after the US State Department declared that the US would be leaving UNESCO by 2019 due to its anti-Israel bias.

UNESCO Resolution

According to Ynet:

UNESCO resolution passes calling to reject Israeli sovereignty over all Jerusalem. Despite the Foreign Ministry's best attempts to thwart a UNESCO proposal to revoke Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem, the resolution passed—on Israel's Independence Day—with the support of seven Arab states; PM Netanyahu calls decision 'absurd,' while Pres. Rivlin calls to transfer all embassies to Jerusalem. 

On the eve of Israel's Independence Day, UNESCO passed a resolution calling for the revocation of Israeli sovereignity in all of Jerusalem, despite Israeli attempts to convince as many countries as possible to resist.The UNESCO resolution calls on Israel, as the "occupying power," to cease "persistent excavations, tunneling, works and projects in east Jerusalem," which the Palestinians claim as the capital of their future state. Israel views the entire city as its capital.

Replacement Theology

The BDS rewriting of history has infected the United Nations.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Thursday passed a contentious anti-Israel resolution denying Jewish connections to the Temple Mount and Western Wall in Jerusalem.

24 UNESCO member states voted in favor of the resolution, 26 abstained, and only six countries voted against.

The proposal, put forth by the Palestinians, along with Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Sudan, condemns Israel on several issues related to Jerusalem and its holy sites.-more

Foreign Min. blasts 'offensive' UNESCO Temple Mount resolution
Foreign Ministry Director General ridicules UNESCO resolution nixing Jewish connection to Temple Mount, describing it as 'Muslim holy site'.

Dore Gold, Director General of Israel's Foreign Ministry, blasted a draft resolution being considered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization committee (UNESCO) recognizing the Old City of Jerusalem's unique place in history - as a "Muslim site". In a letter publicized on Monday, a day ahead of the UNESCO vote on the Jerusalem resolution, Gold ridiculed the document as "a completely one-sided draft" that "deliberately ignores the historical connection between the Jewish people and their ancient capital". -more
