Little Black Dress

So I have been going through my closet, trying to mentally prepare myself for our inevitable move in 3 months and realized that I have SO many clothes.

Among all those clothes 27 skirts!
And I am not even going to tell you how many dresses I have.
Ridiculous right?
I know.

But in my defense I have made at least 7 and have found half of the rest at thrift stores.
Still that is a lot.
And a lot of my dresses and skirts are from high school. I have a serious issue with throwing things away. (one reason why I am dreading this move so much)

One of my dresses is zebra print.
Not sure what I was planning on doing with that one.
Another one (black), I had only worn once.
Sad huh? Poor dress.

I have to throw it away. My mom would be mortified. I have been holding onto a dress for 4-5 years! But the idea of it is so cute, I can't just throw away a perfectly good dress that I won't ever wear....
...So while justifying why I still need it (to avoid wasting a dress)
I came to the magical solution of using it to make a dress for my daughter.

I think it turned out pretty good.
I figure if I don't like it on her, I can just toss it.
I don't have as many issues with throwing away her clothes.

Do you have any clothes you can't part with but never wear?

Hope to see you around!

CURLS

I am proud to say that I have found the best way to curl hair!
I have been looking for an easy way to curl my hair,
and have finally found it.
No heat, no hassle, beautiful curls!

I love having long hair, but don't always have the energy to keep it up and when I get sick of doing it or run out of easy styles I end up cutting it super short and regret it.

I feel so excited about this find and use it all the time. It takes 5 minutes and my curls the next day feel so soft and natural.

All you need are 3 socks!

How to:
1. Slightly dampen your hair. It may take you a couple of tries to find the right dampness. My second try was way too wet and didn't dry by the morning.
2. Divide your hair into 3 sections. top, right, left.
3. Starting with the top, roll the end of your hair around the sock and continue the roll until you reach your head, this should be a similar roll to one used with hot rollers. Once you reach your head simply tie your sock.
4. Do the same with your other two sections and go to sleep.
5. In the morning remove your socks and finger comb through your curls. (make sure your hair is totally dry before removing socks). Products I love with these curls - dove hairspray, and herbal essence shine serum.

Hope this technique works for you.
See you around.

Pillowcase Outfits

I found two Martha Stewart pillow cases at the thrift store and couldn't resist.
Only 0.49 cents.
So I decided to use one pillowcase to make myself a pencil skirt
and the other to make my daughter a dress.

It took me a while to figure out the best way to make my pencil skirt. I tried putting it on a pinning it where I wanted to take it in but then the waist was too big. I found the easiest way for me was to lay it out with one of my other pencil skirts and pinning it to match. I used a regular zipper on the side, instead of an invisible (I am a little intimidated by the invisible zipper, but am going to attempt it this week. I'll let you know how it goes). It may look better with an invisible zipper, if you dare.

Here is a slightly better angle of my daughters dress. She hasn't quite gotten the hang of posing yet...and I am okay with that.
The tricky part for her dress were the sleeves. I had to take them out twice to size up. I didn't have a pattern so I just experimented until it worked. I may suggest using a pattern for the sleeves if you haven't done one before like me. It could save you a lot of time un-stitching.

Yard Sale Gold

I love yard sales.
And a couple of weeks ago I ran across a yard sale full of goodies.

Jars for my oil dispenser, shabby chic headboard, and this beautiful side table.
For only 5 dollars. The side table that is.

The only problem with this purchase was the missing back, but I had some extra bead board at home and figured I would just fix it up.

A hand saw, a few nails and it was ready to use.
I love it! It matches my dresser perfectly.

What projects are you working on?

An Old Chair Becomes New Again

So I had this old chair with a wicker seat, but the wicker was coming apart and when you sat down the front bar would cut off the circulation in your thighs. We all decided to throw the old thing out and buy a new one, which we did. But as it was sitting next to the trash I couldn't help but feel sad to throw out such amazing bones. I figured that there must be something I could do to revive this once charming chair.

I was lucky to have extra supplies laying around that I could work with. Some left over burlap, board, nails, and cushion. After a couple hours of work, I brought my beautiful chair back to life and love it.

Bookshelf Revamped

So I had this bookshelf that a friend gave me.
Which was so nice because I had been looking for one just this size for my daughters books.
After hours of jumping for joy I realized that the bookshelf really didn't match the rest of her room.
So I revamped it with some bead board and Almond gloss Valspar spray paint.

Attaching the bead board was a cinch. I took the thin lining off the back, cut the bead board to size with a hand saw, and nailed in to the back. Then I cut out a piece to frame the top. And sprayed it down 3x with paint out on the grass.

What do you think?

I LOVE how it turned out and the fact that it was a really cheap.
Gosh her closet is so full.
Have I done my spring cleaning yet?
I knew I forgot something.
whoops!

Hope to see you around.
