Looking for Love in a Futuristic World

 by Jessica E. Subject

There are so many freedoms in writing science fiction romance. One of the options is to write a romance story that is set in the distant future.
Another Night, Another Planet is set in a time when there is no middle class, and the divide between the rich and the poor is immense. The rich can take vacations to space on luxury cruisers, but the only way for the poor to get off planet is to know someone who can get them a working position on the spacecraft.
That is what happens to the heroine in Another Night, Another Planet. Ava works on a cruise ship that takes tourists to various planets in the universe. And she is looking for love. Even though she has been propositioned and involved with many passengers onboard, they want nothing to do with her after she leaves their room. So, she applies to the 1Night Stand dating service in order to find a man who wants more than just sex. Although the owner of the dating service, Madame Eve, only guarantees one night, Ava hopes something more will come out of her one-night stand.

To me, even in the future, the longing to find someone to share your life with will never disappear. It is part of who we are as humans.

Tell me: How do you think things will be different in the future when it comes to relationships and love?

Another Night, Another Planet

A 1Night Stand / Elatia story

By Jessica E. Subject

Erotic Sci-Fi Romance

ISBN: 978-1613335413

Limited by status…

Ava is a housekeeper aboard Star Spirit, a luxury cruise ship travelling between the Milky Way and the Belvarian System. Coming from a middle-class family on Earth, she is considered by passengers as nothing more than an object to be tossed away when they’re done with her.

Shunned because of his lineage…

Banned from several planets across the universe, Nate struggles to run his interstellar shipping business. But the DNA of an exterminated race runs through his blood, giving him a diluted form of their powers, and leaving him labeled as a terrorist.

Both searching for the one…

Through her 1Night Stand dating service, Madame Evangeline matches these two together for a celestial escape on the pleasure planet, Elatia.

Will Ava and Nate find what they’re looking for, or will their date be just another night on another planet?

Pizza For Two = Romance

by Mary Quast

In the book Eagle Dance, the main characters bond over pizza. There is love at first sight, so why not have love over pizza?

Dyami planned to pull out all his charms and romance this gal. Sexy as hell, with a wit to match his, she also held an appreciation for a well-made pizza.

A couple we know looked for something they could do together that would add a little spice to their marriage. They signed up for a pizza cooking class. Once they got into the kneading and tossing the dough, stress slipped away and was replaced with light hearted humor. The new activity became the charm they needed.

We have pizza night as a family. Where is the romance in that? Hubby pours a glass of wine for he and I while I prepare the dough. We often make a hard toast with toppings to snack on with our wine while the pizza cooks. After we are caught kissing a few times, the boys complain of how gross we are and exit to the living room.

Looking for a cheap date night for you and your honey? Grab a bottle of wine and a takeout pizza then head to a local park with a blanket. If the weather is yucky, do what Dyami and Amanda did in Eagle Dance. They relaxed in front of a cozy fire in the fireplace to enjoy their wine and pizza. But of course they had chocolate and caramel syrup for dessert. You’ll have to read the book to find out if they put it on ice cream or each other.

Eagle Dance

Dyami Schafer, a Native American from the Chippewa tribe, leads a lonely life due to his large size and unusual appearance. When his nesting instinct sets in, he turns to Madame Eve and 1Night Stand to help him find his spirit mate. Or at least a woman who accepts him as an eagle shifter.

Amanda Collins never stopped loving the Chippewa boy she knew from her childhood. Maybe a night with a Native American man will help her forget the past and let her move on with her life.

Sometimes, it’s necessary to take a step into the past before dancing into the future. With the help of Madame Eve, will the Spirit of the Eagle carry Dyami and Amanda?

Take A Time Out – Recharge Romance

By Mary Quast

During busy summer months, hubby and I capture every little bit of romance we can and sometimes it is as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning at the bonfire pit in our own backyard. While the boys are sleeping, we enjoy the peace and serenity nature offers.

On one such morning, a handsome crow flew in for a visit. It turned out to be our good friend, Seth Crowe. Seth is a crow shifter as well as a Shawnee shaman. He joined us for a cup of java and to catch up. He’s been working with several Native American shifters who are in the service. He said it’s important for them to maintain a balance between their spirit animal and the land. They need to maintain harmony within their souls. True beauty and peace is often overlooked in our crazy world.

I would say it is true for not only for warriors but all of us to have a “time out” in the outdoors. In the bustle of everyday life – job, kids, school, sports, housework, etc we often for get to touch base with our roots. What better way to reconnect with your honey than to take a stroll in a park or sit on a blanket to gaze at the stars! Seth said that he and Lucy will climb out of a window onto the roof of his cabin with a bottle of wine to watch meteorite showers.

Hubby and I have been known to sneak out of the house at midnight and wander down the road, holding hands and listening to the symphony played by the night critters. The world slows down long enough for us to catch our breath and cleanse our souls.

Recharge the romance. Take a minute this summer with your honey to enjoy a few moments alone in nature. It can be anything from admiring your garden with each other or sitting on your porch in candlelight. If you’re brave try something crazy such as skinny dipping at the lake (just make sure you’re on your own property and don’t get caught!)

If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Seth, check out his story in Crow Magic – the first book in the Legend of the Spirit series

Music, the Great Equalizer

 By Catherine Peace

As the great Stevie Wonder sings, Music is a world within itself, in a language we all understand. Music is one of my biggest passions. It transcends language, culture, political parties, everything, and it’s one of the things that’s gotten me through the toughest points in my life.

For a lot of people, myself included, a good music experience is like going to church—it can create a deeply spiritual connection with the people around you, it can bring you together like nothing else. If it’s 50, 100, or 100,000 people singing along with you, you’re all sharing the same experience. That’s one of the things that makes concerts awesome, and one of the things that makes writing musicians awesome.

I had a lot of fun writing Ty. Really, I did. But as I’ve been working on the sequel to Complete Me, I’ve been exploring the up-and-coming musician instead of the one-hit-wonder, and it’s brought a whole other dimension to the experience. I don’t get to write musicians nearly enough.

I wanted to share a longer excerpt from Complete Me’s sequel Valkyrie Rysing. Hope you enjoy!

The show couldn’t have gone more perfectly. The crowd ate them up, and watching Blake sulk by the bar made the night all the better. Plus, Pipsqueak got to show off her crazy drum prowess to a lot of hootin’ and hollerin’. Glad they finally got to experience what she and Rachel knew Pip was capable of. “All right, guys, we got one more for y’all.” At the chorus of boos, she shook her head. “I know, I know. I mean, I could go all night, but it ain’t my call.”

Rach’s haunting bass line floated through the air, mournful and lonesome. The crowd stilled and a hush fell over the room.

“This last song is a special one,” Joss said. “I wrote it a few years back, about a boy, like most everything else is. But then I realized something.” She strummed the opening chord. “It wasn’t about him. It was about me. This is ‘Broken Folklore.’”

The song started in a whisper, just her dueting with Rachel’s bass.

I reminisce the things you’ve told me

Glimpsing lies your life’s become

I surmise what you’ve abandoned

Then I mourn what’s come undone

Through the second half of the verse, she built to a crescendo.

There exists more than you’ve shown me

Living life deaf, blind, and dumb

In a world of swords and dragons

The fairest fantasy is homespun

Then, back to the softness for the chorus.

Lies look so fair wrapped in metaphor

So much to hide in certain vagueness

But pretty words and broken folklore

Can’t seduce a mind unshaken

Enchanting words won’t hypnotize

A string of lies can’t change the fact

If you’d reopen just one blind eye

You’d see that there is no.Way.Back.

She screamed the last three words, and Pip’s cymbal-crash brought the crowd to life. Heavy guitar riffs reminiscent of Metallica’s filled the room. Screams and cheering almost drowned out her monitor. Exactly the reaction she’d hoped for.

Gaze at the sun too long, child brightness

Taint your vision for all time

Hold your breath and wade in deeper

To your delusion of falsely fine

In your realm of satisfaction

Guard the ridges of your mind

Censor, sort – make your world sweeter

Sate your guilt, but leave the landmine

As she went through the chorus again, she sought out August and her heart beat double-time at the heat radiating from him. Time to seal the deal with an epic guitar solo.

Her fingers flew across the frets with minds of their own. Closing her eyes, she let the music carry her, lift her up and guide her. Regardless of how the competition turned out, she always had that feeling to depend on.

The drums and bass dropped out, leaving her doing her best Kirk Hammett impression with a nutjob solo that most guitarists wouldn’t even try, especially on a song they’d never performed.

Of course, she wasn’t most guitarists.

The solo led into the bridge and the audience couldn’t get enough. Softening, harkening back to the first verse, she sang the last barely above a whisper.

Calm your conscience with poetic lies

Speak what may appease my ears

Repress your shame and say again

“You mean so much” to dry my tears

Guide me through the storyline

Let me rehearse my part, my dear

Line and scenes, approach the end

Where the finale’s forever veered

In her mind, she counted the beats.... One, two, three, four.

Lies look so fair wrapped in metaphor

So much to hide in certain vagueness

But pretty words and broken folklore

Can’t seduce a mind unshaken

Enchanting words won’t hypnotize

A string of lies can’t change the fact

If you’d reopen just one blind eye

You’d see that there is No. Way. Back

The song ended on her scream. A few moments of silence passed, followed by the eruption of a frenzied crowd.

New 1Night Stand on the Horizen

 By Landra Graf

Finally, after about six months of toiling, and being consumed by other projects, I’ve been able to get my next three 1NS contracted. I’m still living in the world of BDSM and exploring different kinks. I hinted to some of this in previous guest posts, but at long last I can finally talk about my rope bondage/shibari loving hero Sigmund… called Sig by his friends.

He’s rough, keeps his emotions locked up tight, and finds it hard to believe a woman would be interested in being tied up. Not everyone it down for his type of fun and his track record of mixing pleasure with dating doesn’t seem to work.

This hero was by far my favorite to write. He came to me without difficulty and finding him the right woman did, too. I’m looking forward to introducing Sig to readers, since word from a few close friends is that this hero is by far their favorite. He’s also my first foray into writing a dominant hero. I’ll admit to having far too much fun, which means I may have a few more of those dominant heroes hiding up my sleeve.

Outside of Sig, my other heroes Kanoa and Garrett can’t wait to be introduced either, but I’ll save them for future posts.

P.S. I promise more female Dominants are coming. I love my girls in charge and won’t stop writing them now.

My First 1NS - What You Need Blurb: Royce is looking for a woman who won’t cringe at the words “sexual submissive,” and a chance for all his fantasies to come true. The 1Night Stand he signed up for was supposed to be simple with no attachments, but when his match is his ex-best friend, simple goes out the window. He can’t stop seeking the answers to why Victoria left or deny his new-found attraction to her.

Victoria has loved Royce forever, but his rejection of her affections eight years ago caused her to walk away from everything. She’s not the same girl from college, and no longer naive and willing to run too just anyone. A sexual dominant born from her mistakes, she wants a chance to start a relationship based on her terms. She’ll settle for one night, but she’s planning on forever.

Oh, Sweet Regency!

Is anything sexier than sharing a sweet desert that has to slip past your lips and is so soft going over the tongue?  Whether today or 200 years ago, there is a lot to be said for the sinfully rich custard. So here is one of my favorites that I have found.

2 Cups whole Milk

2 Eggs and 2 Egg Yolks

½ tsp Nutmeg

½ tsp Brandy or Vanilla to taste

Preheat your oven to 350° F.

In a blender, combine the milk, eggs, nutmeg and seasoning of choice. Purée until smooth.

Place 6 porcelain ramekins or custard cups in a large, deep baking dish and divide the mixture evenly between them. Pour hot water in the dish until it reaches half way up the sides of the cups. Place the whole pan in the oven and bake for 45 minutes. Cool slightly before serving, or serve chilled with fresh fruit and whipped cream.

The Earl and his Virgin Countess

Lord Andrew Masterson, Earl of Windenshire has had a string of bad luck with women. While his best friends are all getting leg-shackled, he can’t seem to get a lady to stay in his presence long enough to court them. Not sure what he might be doing wrong, he turns to Madame Evangeline, hoping she can help him change his luck.

Betrothed since before her birth to Lord Masterson, Miss Miranda Beauchamp has prepared to be his countess ever since. Although the Earl of Windenshire maintains her upkeep and pays for everything she needs, she might as well not exist for all the attention he pays her. Determined to break the marriage contract, she’ll go to desperate measures to achieve her goal, even if it means losing her virginity to do so.

Can Madame Eve show Andrew and Miranda there is more than a contract between them? Or will family secrets and years of hurt be too much for the earl and his virgin countess to overcome?

After Happily Ever After

By Landra Graf

Since the release of my first 1NS, What You Need, my main heroine Victoria has become a bit larger than I ever planned. By larger, I mean she has a spot on my blog interviewing other heroes and heroines in her uncouth and naughty way. She’s recognizable by multiple readers and I’ve often heard from a few folks whenever they decide to channel their ‘inner Victoria’ or how ‘Victoria would be proud’.

That being said, I somehow feel obligated to produce something more for this character and her hero. But I as an author I find it challenging to revisit my characters sometimes. After much soul-searching I decided I didn’t want another story playing out Victoria and Royce’s life in more detail. Instead I settled for letting her and her continuing future with Royce drop in person or through conversation in some new 1NS stories I’m writing.

Allowing this little tidbit of information to pop up through different stories is one way to carry the happily ever after beyond the initial story. To give the characters new life and prove that their love lasted long after their one night, courtesy of Madame Eve. Writing their continuation did turn into a cathartic action, as I discovered I wasn’t quite done with Victoria and Royce as I thought I was.

My question—to readers: do you enjoy hearing about previous characters from other stories and if so do you like brief encounters or more detailed? For writers: is it easy or hard to sprinkle characters from previous books into new stories?
