A Weekend Getaway
When my mom asked me what she should get David for his birthday, I jumped at the chance. "He would love for you to babysit! So we can have a weekend getaway!" She was so sweet to agree to it. So she came down on a Friday and we took off for the weekend till the next Monday! We didn't go far, just up to Sandy, but we had a blast. My back was still hurting… a lot actually, but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying our getaway. We did a lot of relaxing, shopping, eating out at yummy restaurants, and watching movies. Every couple needs to do that every once in a while. Thanks mom!
Wow! It's Been Awhile
Man, it's been awhile since I have blogged. I haven't forgotten about it, just been busy. Here are a few of our happenings:
David: He's loving his job. It's been great and hard and stressful and rewarding. He has great days where he loves it and other days he comes home exhausted from counseling all day and just wants to rock in the rocking chair and relax. He's getting really good experience doing therapy for the boys at the treatment center.
Graham: He has been biking to school. If you know me, this is a big deal. I am a little overprotective at times and with our home surrounded by busy roads, I am paranoid that someone might not see him, but he loves it.
We just registered him for middle school. Yikes! When he came home from the orientation the other day I asked him how it went. He replied, "It was great. The only bad part is that I have to wait 6 months before I can start to go there!" I was glad that he is excited about it. I am having a hard time with him growing up.
He's going to be 12 in June. A deacon! He just got a calling to be the scout patrol leader over the 11 year old scouts. He's a great friend and leader.
Carmen: She has been busy with concert choir this year. I take her up to the school early every Wednesday and Friday mornings. She has never complained about it. We have enjoyed going to her concerts and I personally feel that Rock Canyon is the best in the district. ;)
She and Morgan have been walking home from school. It all started off with all 3 of the kids walking together, but when Graham started to want to ride, I felt the girls could do it on their own. I need to loosen my rope sometime, right?!
She and I got to go to the Women's Conference together last night. It was a big deal to have her there with me. We met some of our other friends at the stake center and then we went to Yogurtland to get a treat and visit. During the broadcast Carmen had her notebook and wrote little notes that came to her mind. So cute. She wants to be good.
Morgan: Morgan has made a new friend. His name is Jonas and he lives around the corner from us. He has started walking home with the girls and since our backyards touch, they meet each other outside to play a lot. They built a little fort in the trees at the corner of our yard and they have a "club". They spend time looking for bugs in the dirt and playing make believe.
She will be getting baptized this summer and is super excited. This year she has gone with me to every one of her friends baptism's in the ward preparing herself for her own. It's going to be great.
The kids started Cross Country Kids at the school. This is the first year Rock Canyon has done something like this. Morgan took off and finished her 2 mile run earning an extra charm for her necklace that they gave. She really enjoyed running. While watching the kids run laps around the field I was secretly jumping for joy inside that they were loving it. I hope they will someday want to run long distance with me. ;)
Truman: He is such a fun spirited kid. He's always playing make believe and is really into firemen, policemen, construction workers. He loves Rescue Bots (Fisher Price version of transformers). We get to spend a lot of time together during the day and he's my little helper.
He can't wait to start preschool in the fall. We ran into my sweet friend, Alisa the other day at Costco. She has taught all the kids preschool and she talked with Truman for a little bit. Truman says, "I don't remember you." We assured him he will get to know her really well and have a great time.
He's such a social kid. While I was checking out at the grocery store the other day I looked over to check on the kids in the car cart. Truman wasn't there so I started to scan the floor. I saw him sitting over on a bench by the front doors chatting away with a college age girl who was sitting there. No fear that kid.
Truman ran with the kids the other day at Cross Country Kids. I kept thinking he would tucker out and want to stop, but he kept going! He ran 5 laps around the big field. They gave him a necklace too. So he gets to participate too. :)
Reese: Our little baby isn't much of a baby anymore. She's super busy and such a happy little thing. She is sitting by me now as I type navigating my iPhone, listening to the Children's Songbook App. She wants to be big like her siblings.
She loves to be outside and would play out there all day if she could. She recently started jumping with both feet off the ground. She jumps when she gets excited. It's pretty cute. She loves baby dolls, dancing, riding bikes, and animals.
She's in Nursery now and I love to peek through the window at her. All the little ones sitting quietly. I'm trying to enjoy every little minute with her. It makes me sad that she is growing so fast.
Me: I've been busy raising these kids, but aside from that, I have opened a little Etsy shop selling my shoes. I have learned a lot over the past few months and it's been super fun for me to have an outlet and create. I have been making lots of shoes with leather and crochet. The baby moccasins have been a blast and they don't take as long. I'm working on an adult moccasin now. It's really been a blast. My Etsy shop is: www.etsy.com/shop/lizziehomemade
I signed up for my first marathon! I've had such a mental block all these years thinking there is no way I could run that far, I was too scared. So I finally just signed up! It's on June 14th. I also recently joined a group of women and we all share the same personal trainer. It's all online and he answers all our questions and gives us workouts and lessons everyday. It's been really nice to have someone give me more direction when it comes to my health.
A few weeks ago (on March 6th to be exact) I was helping David move a couch up the stairs. Our stairs turn and our couch was very heavy and big. There was a hide-a-bed in it. It got wedged, but we finally got it up and out (with the help of the guy who was coming to get it), but somehow in the process I strained my back. I tried to ignore it and kept running on it for the next week. I felt lower back pain with every step I took, just hurting it worse. It got so bad that I could barely walk or bend over. Long story short, after going to the chiropractor, putting ice, heat, and DoTerra Deep Blue (amazing stuff), and lots of rest, I am finally feeling a little better. Last week I started to incorporate walking on the track and doing some strengthening exercises advised to my by John (my trainer). I'm hoping I can get back to running and be ready for the marathon. My sis, Sarah, signed up to run it with me just a week before I hurt my back. So we'll see. I've never had a back injury before, let alone really any injury this bad, and I hope I never do again!!!
So that's what we are put to in a nutshell. I'm going to try and post more often. I love to have my blog as a journal and record everything on here. No more slacking!!

Dinner On The Kids
A few weeks ago I started to give the kids a night of the week to pick what they wanted to make for all of us. I would get the ingredients and help them if they needed. Morgan is Tuesday night. Carmen is Wednesday. Graham is Thursday. And now Truman is wanting to help so we assigned him Monday starting next week. It's been a great success. It's a chance for me to teach the kids some skills in the kitchen (since I'm so skilled ha) and it actually helps me a lot.
Owie's
We've had two little mishaps in our family as of late. Little Reese broke her collar bone when Morgan set her on the recliner pretty roughly.
And Carmen got to go to the ER to try and rule out appendicitis. We still aren't really sure what the issue was. Her white blood cell count was really high: 16. So after an ultrasound and a ctscan they still couldn't find her appendix. The next day we took her back to check her blood levels and everything was back to normal. Weird. We are focussing more on her diet and watching her close. I'm hoping it wasn't a flare up and that it comes back.
Lizzie's
Well, until now. I have officially come up with my own shoe. Without a pattern that I follow! I'm pretty proud because I never dared to do it. Each pair gets a little more sturdy as I watch and see where I need to make changes.
I'm toying with the idea of selling them. But for now I have a few friends and family wearing them and will give me feedback on what needs changed.
I've given them the name: Lizzie's.
Here they are:

School Picture Day 2013
On the way out the door this morning, I snapped a few photos of the kids. Today is their school picture day and I don't buy the packets anymore. It's just more money that I don't want to spend. :) Graham doesn't seem to be having it. And Truman and Reese still have sleepy eyes, but that's okay. It's fun to compare the pictures year after year.
