This was our first day in Jamaica. It was Branch Conference in the Kingston Branch. The chapel is church built behind the wall and fence of a compound. It consists of two buildings; the first is the Chapel and the second is adjacent and contains the class rooms and offices. The branch president and the district president did a very good job speaking about "work". President Hendricks spoke about Father's Day and our Heavenly Father - very good talk. In a joint meeting of Priesthood and Relief Society the President spoke about what is needed to form a Stake in Jamaica. Needed are 20 fully worthy Melchizedek priesthood holders in 5 branches . He was very straight forward and direct.
The members were very friendly and handsome. I really enjoyed connecting with them. It was warm but not as bad as we had imagined . There were 15 ceiling fans in the Chapel (which also serves as a cultural hall) . Attendance was maybe 50. Next we went with a Humanitarian service couple and learned about their projects with chickens, pigs, goats and bee hives.
Next Colleen and I met separately with President Hendricks to learn or our experience, expectations and concerns. Very good discussion. After a delicious dinner (barbequed chicken thighs) we talked about the Hendricks mission experiences.
