March Madness in February, take whatever...
This year, the crazy redhead and I are going to Vegas during the start of the NCAA tournament, where a wager or two may be placed on a game or two. Therefore, it's important that we get in the habit of picking this stuff correctly. Without further adieu, I give you this year's 65 teams...
Conference Champions
Drake (24-4); North Carolina (26-2); Indiana (24-4); Xavier (24-4);
Portland State (19-9); Boise State (21-7); CSU Northridge (19-7); Memphis (27-1);
Niagra (18-8); Morgan State (18-9); Robert Morris (24-6); UCLA (25-3);
Tennessee (25-3); Stephen F. Austin (23-3); Alabama State (15-9); Gonzaga (22-6); UMBC (21-7); Belmont (21-8); Louisville (23-6); Winthrop (19-10); Kansas (25-3);
Virginia Commonwealth (22-6); Butler (26-3); Cornell (18-5); Kent State (23-5);
BYU (22-6); Austin Peay (20-10); Navy (16-12); Davidson (22-6); Oral Roberts (21-7);
Western Kentucky (23-6)
At Large
Illinois State (21-8); Duke (24-3); Clemson (20-7); Miami (FL) (19-8);
Maryland (18-11); George Mason (20-8); UNLV (21-6); New Mexico (22-7);
South Alabama (24-5); St. Joseph's (17-9); UMass (18-9); Wisconsin (24-4);
Purdue (22-6); Michigan State (22-6); UAB (20-8); Houston (21-6); Stanford (23-4);
Washington State (22-6); USC (18-9); Vanderbilt (24-4); Florida (21-7);
Mississippi State (19-8); Arkansas (18-9); St. Mary's (24-4); Georgetown (23-4);
UConn (22-6); Notre Dame (21-6); Marquette (21-6); West Virginia (20-8);
Pittsburgh (20-8); Texas (24-4); Kansas State (18-9); Texas A & M (21-7);
Baylor (19-8)
Last Team In: St. Joseph's
Last Team Out: Ohio State
Play In Game: Navy vs. UMBC
Two points reference the alma mater making the above list.
1. Yes, it's true the NCAA doesn't like to give at-large spots to mid-majors. Apparently they believe that when unknown schools upset teams from established conferences, it makes the tournament boring. It is also true that when people remarked about how the Missouri Valley has earned everyone's respect, what they meant was "so long as Southern Illinois and Creighton are the MVC's top teams, and not Drake and Illinois State." That being said, the Valley is generally considered the top mid-major conference, and Valley teams whomped serious ass during Bracket Buster weekend, with Drake, Bradley, Creighton, and Southern all winning along with ISU. Surely such a conference is worthy of a second bid.
2. My list, and I want 'em in. Bite me.
Your final is North Carolina vs. UCLA, take 357.

And I got 99 biker friends...
Two men try to rob a bar that was being used as a meeting location for a few dozen bikers.
That worked about as well as you'd expect.
Not exactly on point, but it came to mind after reading this...

All this and I still have to go to work on Monday...
Spouse calls me from work yesterday at about 7:30.
"Could you go pick up some MegaMillions tickets, honey? I'm feeling lucky!"
Now, I think, but I'm not sure, that stores stop selling lottery tickets at 8:00, so if I'm going to do this, I need to rush. Secure the hounds, grab the car keys, race out the door...
...hey, did you know my car keys and my house keys aren't on the same keychain?
I knew it, but it wasn't really at the forefront of my mind or anything.
But it is now.
A happy ending to this story would be telling you that I am now a multi-millionaire.
That didn't happen. Too bad, because the winning ticket was sold in Georgia.
Whoever you are, please know that I hate you.

American Idol is back...
First cuts were actually pretty spot-on. Garrett and Amy stunk and were easy calls. I thought Joanne and Colton were OK, but unexceptional enough that booting them was well within the range of acceptable decisions.
So it turns out that maybe Americans can be trusted with democracy.
Reached for comment, Barack Obama said "Crap."
Picking a winner early (and my picks should not be trusted - I once called Anwar Robinson over Carrie Underwood), I'm going to say Michael Johns is the best of the bunch.

Animal biology question
When a dog has been cooped up in the house all day, you would think that the urge to relieve himself would be overwhelming once the person gets home and he finally has the opportunity to do so. For some reason, the presence of a monsoon-quality downpour causes this urge to morph into a more lackadaisical I'll-get-to-it-when-I-get-to-it attitude that could very well result in the person catching pneumonia.
What the hell is up with that?

Those wacky college kids...
Pot found growing in University of Michigan botanical gardens.
80 students were working in the gardens for a biology class. Police are checking to see if anyone asked the professor about doing an independent study for extra credit.

Run the numbers...
Average man takes about three years to propose marriage.
An exceptional man, on the other hand, is going to take a little longer.
Really.
Tip - Karol.

How much money can you make in your underwear on Times Square?
Remember, this question is post-Guiliani.
Street performer/apparent lunatic the Naked Cowboy is suing M & M's for allegedly using his likeness in an ad.
The best part is when the Cowboy describes the evolution of his act:
I'm just asking, because I'd like to know before I sink a ton of money into an ab machine and guitar lessons.

The best part is when the Cowboy describes the evolution of his act:
"It took years for people not to say that's a stupid idea."Roughly speaking, how much money do you have to make doing something ridiculous before it becomes brilliant?
I'm just asking, because I'd like to know before I sink a ton of money into an ab machine and guitar lessons.

The process of dealing...
To repeat: The GOP nominee for President is John McCain. He might win it easy, or he might win it hard, depending on how wienerriffic Huckabee plans to be over the next few weeks. (Note to Mike - only people who can accept reality have any business being considered for Vice President. Just something to think about.)
I'm OK with it. Granted, the man does not lack for flaws. The whole Incumbent Protection Act, or whatever he calls his bastard offspring with Russ Feingold was a bad idea, and the man does not inspire on immigration. But while McCain's success has led some to think that McCain's success means America really wants legalization of illegal immigrants and are more this way-that way with the whole border security thing should note that McCain himself did not get this memo. I got one of those robo-calls from the McCain campaign prior to the Georgia primary - in it, the first policy position out of McCain's mouth was a pledge to secure the border prior to taking any legalization steps.
Also, it bears noting that the alternatives a guy I don't agree with on anything and Hillary Clinton. Heck, the fact that I like Barack Obama is exactly why I shouldn't vote for him. I don't agree with my wife about how to run the country either, but we get along good because neither of us is actually running the country. Me supporting cutting taxes doesn't start fights in our house - me actually cutting taxes just might.
Clinton could be fun, if only because she promised there would be no scandals involving Bill Clinton during her administration. The over-under on when she'd have to go on TV and explain how something that really looks and sounds like a scandal is actually some insidious Republican plot is eight months. In any event, I'm sure there are millions of Americans who are thinking, "you know, if the President would just get involved more, my entire life could be as much fun as renewing my driver's license," who would love Hillary Clinton as President, I cannot at this time count myself among them.
So I hereby endorse John McCain for President - with the slogan - "John McCain - What the Hell."

What's wrong with dog shows...
There exists, in dog show land, a category of dogs known as the "Non-Sporting" division. There's your first problem - a division basically set up for dogs who are, for all intents and purposes, useless.

Koshka: I kill you now.
Me: You sure? Because you're on the couch, and I'm way over here.
Koshka: I kill you later. (Goes back to sleep.)
As you may have guessed, the Keeshond falls into this category of Generally Useless, but Cute. And the Keeshond never wins at dog shows, for reasons that remain inexplicable to me.
Take this year's best in breed at Westminster -
Meet Kemonts Skyline's Game Boy, a fine and handome dog, surely worthy to represent the Useless...sorry, the Non-Sporting Group in tonight's Best in Show final.
He will, sadly, not be the representative. Why not, you ask?
Because he was beaten...by this.

While this...I guess it's a dog...has the admittedly better name of Brighton Minimoto...I'm sorry, seriously, what the hell is that thing?
They need a better way of choosing champions. I suggest having the dogs fight robots.

Was it my lack of enthusiasm?
Mitt Romney suspends campaign.
Planet Huckabee nothwithstanding, John McCain is the Republican nominee for President. Deal with it however you wish, but begin dealing with it now, for it shall come to pass.

Beer - is there anything it can't do?
Bystander foils robbery by clobbering would-be thief with six-pack of beer bottles.
The grateful store owners wanted to thank the man by buying him a beer - unfortunately, there is now a mandatory background check and a seven-day waiting period.

Where was this law when K-Fed's album dropped?
University of Georgia football is going to kill everyone next year...
Know how I know this?
UGA just signed a player named Baccari Rambo.
Imagine lining up on offense opposite a player named Baccari Rambo. You know he's going to kill you, you just don't know when or in what fashion.
Maybe Tim Tebow should think about coming out for the NFL draft. He'll be safer.

God Bless America...
Well, I voted for Mitt Romney.
And I'm just as thrilled about it as I sound.
It does appear I helped make it a race, so that was kind of cool. It would have been cooler if Romney had been my first choice, and not like my third or so, but but hey, apparently Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina get to make the real decisions around here.
Why do we let them get away with that again?
There was a huge line at the polling place when I got there after work. Not to judge people by appearances, but I did get the idea of skipping the line by noting that I was probably the only guy there who wanted a GOP ballot. I also toyed with the idea of telling someone that hey, while the secret ballot is a great idea and all, I'm going to post who I voted for on the internet, so could somebody just punch in for me so I can go home? I have a puppy who needs to go out.

Speaking of which, isn't he cute? He's gotten so big.
Notice I say "big," not "well-behaved."

Not everyone can get an Oscar nomination...
The new "Rambo" movie, where Stallone takes on the Myanmar junta, has become a popular black-market DVD in Myanmar, despite the police trying to stop it.
