Letterboxing at the parkway
Doug and I took the grandkids on a special outing at the parkway today. First we followed clues to find a letterbox and everyone stamped in their books.
We then walked to the playground where we ate our sack lunches and played on the equipment.

The traveling fabric store!
We loaded up all the fabric, yarn, notions, batting, etc. from my Mom's basement and delivered it to a lady in American Fork who has headed up a humanitarian project for the last 18 years. They send quilts and fabric all over the world. We made arrangements and dropped it off at the chapel where they would later sort and distribute everything.
As you can see we had a LOT of stuff! I think we counted 83 boxes. She called back later that evening and said that it had taken 10 women 5 hours to sort it all. They were quite amazed that all that had come from one person! She said the bright colors are going to the Congo and the more subdued are going to Afganistan. I hope my Mom will be watching her things going all around the world and giving pleasure to all who receive it!

Trip to Laramie
Doug and I left last Thursday for a quick trip to Laramie to see the kids and help Jill and Robby with a few things. Friday Doug, Caleb and I drove to Denver. We picked up a U-Haul and began driving around Denver and nighboring communities in search of furniture and equipment for Jill's soon-to-be new law office from listings on "Craig's List". We struck out on most things but we hit a home-run with a beautiful desk and credenza! We had left Laramie at about 8:00 am and got back about 6:30 pm. When we got there Jill was fixing dinner and just happened to mention that Elton John was giving a concert at the university that night. That was all Doug needed to hear. He grabbed Robby and they drove down to see if there were any tickets still available. There were! We inhaled what little bit of dinner we could (the real plan of which had to be abandoned!), said good-bye to the kids, and headed for the concert. It was incredible! 3 hours of Elton John singing and playing with no breaks!

Sunday we went to church to watch the morning session of Conference. We then found out that the roads had opened. We decided we had better go while we could still get through. It was cold and windy (imagine that!) and the roads were icy. We were pulling the U-Haul with the furniture and boxes we had loaded from Jill's. As we started to make our first pass we began to fish-tail. We thought we were goners! Pretty scary! We did a few more fish-tails before we were finally able to pull off the free-way. Doug and I then began loading boxes from the trailer into the car and redistributing the boxes in the trailer so the weight would be more forward. Of course neither one of us had brought coats, only jackets (what were we thinking)! Once we got the weight distributed and put the Tahoe in 4-wheel drive, we headed down the road again a little safer. We had made the trip to Laramie in 5.5 hours. The trip home took almost 8! We were just happy to be home SAFE!
We wished we had taken pictures sooner. The whole trailer was totally covered with 3-4 inches of ice. It was quite a sight!

Friday night and all day Saturday it snowed - one of the biggest storms of the year according to Robby. Of course the roads out of Laramie were closed!
