"Coles" modified grasstrack/speedway engine??
A few years back I found this modified BSA B33 long stroke engine whilst helping the late Captain Maurice Seddon at his house. I was interested in the engine because all the cooling fins had been removed. the engine was empty, but in the cases there was a high compression piston and a valve. I wondered where the engine came from and who modified it, and what it's history was. I was quite pleased when I went to Kempton autojumble this weekend and saw this grasstrack bike there, sporting an engine that was modified in a very similar way. I know some of the older guys I have spoken to say this was a common modification "back in the days" (converting b33 engines and such to run on alchohol for competition) but being from a different generation I have not seen any of these. The owner of this grasstrack bike at Kempton said it was a "Coles" engine. Theis makes me wonder weather the engine in Seddons yard was also a "coles" engine. The pictures here are of the grasstrack bike, and the old engine I saw at Seddons.

Rory Story
The other Saturday I rode the BSA East through London. After passing the Old st roundabout I looked over my shoulder and saw Rory appear on his Triumph. We said "Yo hows it goin? off to the lockup?" " Yea cool lets go!" His bike stalled and we were a few seconds while it was re started, then we rode off. This small time delay may have jiggled fate, maybe... or it may have been the red traffic lights up ahead? Who knows. But 3 minutes later I was flying over the bonnet of a BMW. The car turned across my path and I went into it and over the front. Rory was behind, and witnessed the crash, helping out loads at the scene, really good.
Then Strangely, seeming like fate playing some sort of game, 1 week later, Rory is riding his Triumph through London, when a car turnes across his path, and they collide. His Triumph is smashed and he sustains injuries to his right leg, the same leg I sustained injuries to in my crash 1 week earlier. Almost the same crash as I had!
Two bikes happen to meet on the road, then have the same accident 1 week apart......... Mysterious....weird..
Anyway, get well soon to the Rory!

Wheels & Waves 2013, My stupid photos
Got up on the cam, shaved some metal from the side of the steed, dueled with fast riders on mountain curves. Wheels & Waves, the three day drink and danger binge. Had some great rides with some good new pals and old pals. Thanks to James Jordan of Kingdom of Kicks for the use of the triumph when my BSA bit the dust, and loads of other stuff. And thanks to Vincent for the event and everything. And thanks to the Ruby helmets brigade for taking my BSA to Paris.
My camera battery ran out. I got these fairly amateurish snaps of the lighthouse post battery failure.
I'll post other peoples photos soon!
