Five Years....

Went to Boulder, Utah for our anniversary this year. It was really nice to get away from work. Our anniversary always comes at report card time which makes for a really stressed out Cherie. I am so happy we decided to go somewhere this year. My work schedule is making me crazy.

Today I remembered why I do what I do. I love my little tutoring students and it is amazing what a little love and patience can do for children of all ages. But it is even more amazing what a little love and patience can do for me.

There is a short story told at themoth.org called "Don't fall in love with your monkey". It's about a scientist who's experimenting with a monkey and the monkey starts training him to do things.
So applicable to my job! Each child I work with helps me to open up to new ways of learning and teaching. Every year I feel like I'm a completely different type of teacher. You can never try be objective when it comes to living beings. They will always change your behavior as much as you change theirs... If your lucky.

I love these pictures. They are really old color photos in an online display. They are from the early 1940's. My current header is from this same display.

Fleet Foxes

I went to this concert about a month ago and I can't believe how much I like this band now. I can't get them out of my head and I never get tired of them. This guy's voice in concert was so powerful.

They are coming back to Salt Lake in July if anyone is interested. You will be in for a treat.

arrggg!!!

I am working like crazy this last month. I took on two new tutoring students and I am now working about 10 and half hours a day. It's harder then I thought it would be. I usually don't get home till around seven and of those ten hours I get a half hour lunch break. Seriously it sucks.

The good news is that this schedule ends at the end of May when school gets out! Hurray! I can't wait until summer!

new music!

Got a whole bunch of new music and am so excited about it.
Take a listen.

She & Him

Girl Talk

Why

Girl Talk is defiantly blowing my mind right now cause the rest of the album is just more of the same for like 40 continuous minutes. It's awesome.

She & Him is Zoe Deschanel's band. She has a great voice, and she wrote most of those songs I believe.

Thanks Karen

These are some pictures my friend Karen took of me when she was in town in like October. I love them! She is the only photographer that has ever made me look like myself in pictures. She also took the pink picture of me that I use as my main photo for this blog. Thanks Karen.

what we have known

The bony hand inside of me loosens it's grip. To examine it's long and shiny finger nails, and perfect glowing skin. I gaze into it's palm through parts translucent and weak. I gaze at every dry water bed making it's way towards the ends. I ramble and I search and I plot it's demise. And I lovingly caress and embrace it's familiar shape and form. It is right and left. It is me or a simulation of me. An enigma for a time. A chest of overflowing ivy and dirt and things of the earth. It has been many things to many people. A splitting atom, a razors edge, a wall of silence, a wall of shame. To me it is a feast that never ends. A feast with small bites and large spoons. Empty bellies filled to the brim with hollow stars and a curdled moon.

A long time coming

Christmas was great. I stayed in salt lake and bummed around for two weeks. Went hog wild with the sweets over the break but went back on my diet with a vengeance and cut out all meat and animal products. So far I have lost about 15 pounds (I don't really weigh myself. These numbers are coming from yearly doctors visits).

We also put tile in the kitchen and hall, painted the bathroom, textured the walls in the bedroom and tore out the built in closet that was about 30 years old and made from plywood, and I am painting the bedroom today.

I also learned how to switch out the old light switches to new ones. I really like that I know how to do that. And, we got some new lights for the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. That always makes a big difference.

The end is in sight for this seemingly endless project. I can't believe what a push we've made in the last two months. Living in squaller for the last year and a half might be worth the finished project. This house is really shaping up.

As far as things that are coming up, in June I am running in the Wasach Back. I am really nervous for this. It's a relay race from Logan to Park City. We have twelve people on our team and I will run three legs of varying lengths and difficulty. I have never ran more then 4 miles so I'm not sure what it will feel like to run like 10 miles. I am interested in the experience of pushing my body to those lengths though. And this just seems like a good challenge. Something to keep away the monotony.

I must say that, it feels good to have this to look forward too. It has been a hard few months and I am ready to get out of the house and run in some good weather.
