Unfortunate Ad Placement

I'll say it again, I love interesting juxtapositions. But this story/ad combination from the Wall Street Journal is quite unfortunate, what with Steve Jobs recent health difficulties and nearly skeletal physique:

Juxtaposition

Two things I saw yesterday:

Tamouh plans for indoor ski slope on Jebel Hafeet
Controversial plans to build an indoor ski slope on the highest peak in Abu Dhabi are being considered by local developer Tamouh Investments, as part of a major mixed-used development...

The project is controversial as it will radically alter the appearance of Jebel Hafeet...

Although the scheme will use the natural slope of the mountain, it will still require substantial work to alter the profile of the mountainside.

Quote at the Al Ain Palace Museum:
إن حجم الدول لايقاس بمساحاتها على الخريطة بل نتراثها و
حضارتها

زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان

Probably not by its ski slopes either.

Juxtaposition

Today's Gulf News' front page begins with an open letter to President Bush (apparently only in the print version. The online version, on page 10 of the print version, is longer and different in wording, but not in tone):

Unfortunately, you landed here with prejudice and pre-formed opinions..."

Next paragraph:

We realize that containing Iran, selling more weapons and securing cheap oil supplies are the main issues on your mind as you tour the region.

Fortunately they are not pre-judging him or anything.

More Rushdie

Another interesting juxtaposition (from this article):

"[Pakistan's] Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said Rushdie's knighthood would hamper interfaith understanding..."

This is probably true; but then this probably isn't going to help "interfaith understanding" either:

"The West is accusing Muslims of extremism and terrorism. If someone exploded a bomb on his body, he would be right to do so unless the British government apologizes and withdraws the 'sir' title," [Mohammed Ijaz ul-Haq, Pakistan's religious affairs minister] said."

East meets West

Los Angeles and Iran in Al Ain

Another juxtaposition that spoke to me.

Odd Juxtaposition

Maybe it is just me, but the headline and photo on this page do not belong together.
