Happy New Year!!!

Matt, Grace, Gennie and Sergio spent New Year's Eve playing games (mostly the Wii) while Claira slept, and I made preparations for Claira's birthday.  We rang in the New Year--yes, Grace made it to midnight with kisses, a sparkling cider toast, and some confetti poppers.  After our little celebration, Grace said "What now?"  We said "Well, that's it.  Now we go to bed."  To which she replied "That's it?  I am never doing that again!"  Apparently staying up until midnight for kisses and sparkling cider simply wasn't worth it.  The New Year's festivities ended there, and Claira's birthday festivities took over.  We stayed up late wrapping her birthday gifts and making sure we were ready to make January 1st all about her.

A Few Last Things to Round out the Year...

Just a few pictures that missed a post along the way that I want to include as we round out the year 2009.

Claira has a corner that she goes to when she eats a lolly.  It's her sucker corner.

Claira fell asleep in the middle of the floor after a diaper change.  She never does this, so she must have been tired.

Claira had another run in with naughtiness when she got into mommy's lipstick AGAIN!

Grace hosted another tea party with fancy place cards and food fit for a princess (Bagel Bites and Toblerone).

And finally, the girls' Christmas dresses.  I felt like this year's dresses were okay--not my favorite, but you know how it goes--some year's are better than others.  This year the selection wasn't great, so I did the best I could.

It came and went too fast...

After all the preparations were made...a couple of months of preparations including decorating, on-line shopping, present hiding, gift wrapping, goodie baking, and the like...it came and went too fast.

Christmas morning was excitement and pure delight as Grace and Claira descended the staircase in a whirlwind of excitement.  The gifts from Santa were beautifully wrapped in an array of pink & green Christmas paper.  It matched our beautiful Christmas tree perfectly.  How did Santa know???  Grace immediately went for her stocking, and Claira immediately tackled Grace.  It was such a classic moment.  Claira took a moment to warm up to her Cozy Coupe, but once she did, there was no stopping her as she picked it up and carried it much like a Flinstone's car.  She was delighted that Santa answered her request for "Chocyate!" and continues to tell people "Santa come" and when asked what Santa brought she always says "Chocyate!"

They were too fast for me to get a good picture of Claira's Santa gifts.

One peak at the pink & green striped box, and Grace and mommy knew what was inside.
There's no mistaking a Madame Alexander box.

In addition to the chocolate and her Cozy Coupe, Santa delivered a darling cradle, a stroller, and Claira's first Madame Alexander baby doll. Santa also delivered a spiritual gift that included some church books and a couple of Living Scriptures DVDs.  Mommy and Daddy did a good job with gift-giving as well.  Claira loved her hoppy horse, Magna Doodle, and Sit 'n Spin toy, as well as a few other fun surprises.

Excuse the blurry photo, but I wasn't ready for Claira running to see what Grace got without giving her own stocking a second thought.  I should have known she would be more interested in Grace's gifts than her own.  She still wants Julie more than any other doll in our house.

Grace was thrilled with Santa's delivery of a bed, storage cases, and additional accessories for Julie (her American Girl doll).  He also brought a sewing machine, some sewing projects, and a dress form (oh so fancy) for this little six-year old who wants to learn to sew (I guess mommy is going to have to pick up a new hobby as well).  Grace also received some scripture books and some church DVDs--now we have something to watch on Sunday afternoons after 9 a.m. church.  From mommy and daddy she unwrapped an old-fashioned jump rope and jump rope rhyme books, a Fancy Nancy Madame Alexander and some Fancy Nancy books, and who could forget the infamous PlasmaCar.  She was very sweet and loved everything!!!

I happily unwrapped a Cricut cutting machine, and Matt was thrilled with the Wii Fit both surprise gifts from Santa.  Our favorite gift was the darling book that Grace made for us--it was a story that she wrote and illustrated about our Summer trip to Sea World.  It is one of those gifts that I will treasure forever.

Photo is from a few nights earlier when we went to look at the temple lights.

It was so much fun to have my mom and dad and brother-Steve, and Sister-Carrie at our home for Christmas.  They added lots of extra excitement and joy to our Christmas festivities.  We enjoyed good food, fun with family, and lots of great presents.  We certainly had a very Merry Christmas and hope you all did as well.  Is it really over until next year?  Well, I guess there's still  a visit from Mrs. Claus and Claira's birthday, so the preparations never end.

Christmas Eve Traditions...

Christmas Eve was a day of busyness and preparation at our house.  We spent the day baking cookies, making soups and salads for dinner, wrapping family presents to put under the tree, and getting ready for our Christmas Eve program.

The evening was filled with a few traditional activities:

We opened jammies to wear to bed...

Claira was struck with wonder by the box she unwrapped on Christmas Eve.  She ripped the paper off and said "WOW!"--no gifts necessary for such amazement, just a box.

We read the Christmas story from the Bible.  This year I found this incredible book that contains all of the most important verses of the Christmas story from the different books in the King James version of the Bible.  The book also includes songs that go with the different parts of the story.  It ends up being a perfect program for Christmas Eve all in one book.  So this year, we read the story and sang songs about the Savior's birth.  We are excited to have this new addition to our Christmas traditions.

We listened to Grace timidly perform the song "When Christmas Comes to Town".  She did a beautiful job and really helped us all feel the Spirit of Christmas as we wrapped up our evening making the final preparations for Santa's much-anticipated arrival.

We decorated sugar cookies for Santa and made sure to hang the magic key that the Elf left earlier in the month on our front door to let Santa in.

Grace spilled the plate of cookies she had frosted for Santa--he ate them anyway and was never the wiser.

Claira opted to eat her sugary treat rather than leave it for Santa--which was probably for the best anyways, considering the amount of finger/knife licking that took place while the decorating was going on.

Grace also insisted on leaving carrots for the reindeer, which I am sure they enjoyed. With the house ready to welcome Santa Claus, the girls headed to bed and then the real prep work began ;)
