UNFRAMED 2011 by ACRIA- May 25, 2011

Attention Savvy Art Collectors!

UNFRAMED 2011 is one event that you should not miss! This is a great opportunity to contribute and get some fierce art by attending this event. ACRIA is one of my very favorite AIDS organizations and for many years,  had always provided support in any way possible. It is also one of the best places to find affordable limited edition prints and  art from the best luminaries of the current Art World. So if you are not in NYC and can't make it to the event, contact Scott Drevnig and make your purchases during and right after the event, the work goes on line (what is left..) to the web site.

For the ones in the NYC area, this is where you need to be before starting your summer weekend getaways. It is always a very nice soiree. They really know how to do it.

See you next Wednesday May 25!

Here is more info about the event:

Dear Friend of ACRIA:
As you may know, our once-a-year UNFRAMED event is coming up on Wednesday, May 25th, at 123 Third Avenue (at 14th Street), from 6 to 9 pm. UNFRAMED is our famed artists event, also known as Artists Respond to AIDS, that began in 1993. This year’s event will be part of our 20th Anniversary fundraising efforts, with an outstanding twenty-one artists participating.  Each of our extremely talented artists is donating a small group of works to ACRIA so that we may continue our lifesaving efforts on behalf of those with HIV/AIDS.  As always, we will give you the opportunity to purchase hard-to-acquire artists’ work for a fraction of the retail value.

We will also have a large silent auction featuring incredible works from some of the biggest names in the art world today!  The evening is presented by Architectural Digest, 123 Third Avenue and BNY Mellon Wealth Management, with cocktails provided by Svedka. Additional support is being provided by artnet, Chelsea Frames and Duggal.  Tickets are $20 at the DOOR ONLY.

Come and enjoy fabulous cocktails and the mind-blowingly inexpensive original signed works that ACRIA is famous for.  The invitation attached and below lists the prominent artists who have donated their work to ACRIA.

I hope you will be able to join us for this very special evening, and thank you for your support.

December 1st- World AIDS Day

Today is a day to remember all the friends, acquaintances and even family members that are no longer around due this tragic disease known as AIDS.

Over the years, I had lost a significant amount of friends that can never be replaced.

Innocent people that had no idea what the disease really was until in most cases was too late to prevent.

I still have a few friends that to this day continue to battle this disease and that is why it is so important to continue helping organizations like ACRIA (AIDS Community Research Initiative of America), GMHC ( Gay Men Health Crisis ), AMFAR ( The Foundation for AIDS Research) and Visual AIDS

Most of these organizations have Art auctions benefits and print programs that in collaboration with emerging and established artists create limited editions available  for sale, all proceeds going to benefit research  and prevention programs. It is a win-win when you can purchase and invest on art and the money helps the AIDS organization.

The Housing Works is committed to ending the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness. They believe that all people have the right to a rich and empowering life.I had been shopping here for over 10 years. The is housing works Thrift Shops locations throughout the city and the clothes , furniture and even artwork can be quite fierce. I remembered once bidding in an auction for a enormous Roy Lichtenstein lithograph against a huge British art dealer. I lost too!

During the month of December, I will be curating a Visual AIDS online exhibit and hope to do my best in memory of my lost but, still loved and remembered friends.

The photo above is from Gia Carangi (1960-1986) , one of the first Supermodels and also one of the first women and lesbian in America to die from AIDS. To me she represents the face of the ongoing tragedy of this disease. Take a minute of your busy day today to remember all those beautiful souls like Gia, that are no longer around.

Be Safe!
