kids...

A student says to me after I kick another student out of my room....."your really good with them" Who? "you get along easy with them" What are you talking about? "your good with them" Spit out what your saying- "Black people! You're really good with them. Most teachers just tell them to shut up and go away, but you joke with them and stuff" (riiiggghhtt)

There had been an incident earlier with a chair, where a student flipped out because he didn't get to sit in the chair he wanted. Angela asked me, "Which one was it?" I pointed and said, "The black one" My student who walked in on this conversation looked at me pleadingly, pointed to himself and asked, "Are you talking about me?" NOOOOOO. The chair silly. then we all had a good laugh.

"Look at this cool eraser, its like playdough" "Thats a kneaded eraser." I tell him. He asks, "Whats it needed for?" Yup.

"You're telling us a story today!?! I LOVE your stories! If they were a girl, I would marry them!"

"MISS! Did you hear the news this morning??!!!" (I brace myself for some terrible and intense news) "They said that the temperature was going to drop!! its going to be like 67 degrees on WEDNESDAY!" I said, " You realize thats only 3 degrees less then 70 degrees, right?" "MISS, THAT IS FREEZING!!!!"

"Oh, I see you like chinese lanterns...Me too" he says as he pulls out a miniature chinese lantern from some secret pocket that was big enough to hold a chinese lantern but small enough to go undetected.
same student: Do you want to see the SCARIEST PICTURE EVER?!! (memories of scorpian boy flash through my head, because scorpian boy (a boy from my junior high I taught at) said the same exact thing to me, with the same amount of exclamation just before showing me a photograph of what he thought were hundreds of orbs, although to me they looked like water droplets at night) YES! I exclaim. As this student produces a photograph that looks like water droplets at night and he beams: LOok at all the orbs!! (to his credit the photograph on either side of that one showed NO orbs in them.)

Same student: Well you see Miss Cook, I'm sort of a philisophical fellow. I think the purpose of life is to wander along your journey and learn from the great knowledge and experience along the way. I want to show this in my picture, by having a picture of me with my sword, because thats all I usually have with me. (don't think he doesn't bring a big plastic sword to school frequently, because you'd be wrong, he does.)

Summer on the Road of summer

Ok, i know this post if VERY late. but I figure better late then never. I also recognize that it actually tells nothing, and shows nothing of an amazing adventure.... but it gives a small, even the tiniest bit of possibility into what was "The road trip of perhaps a lifetime" and then again, it was so great, i can't possibly believe it will be the only one..... I also recognize, one reason i haven't done any posting is becausee i've been waiting to post this... i wanted to put up all the awesome pictures,,, but lets just do this with what i've got now.... ok. (ps. happy thanksgiving)

So this summer has been much more chillax then last summer, I don't have any flights to sit through and no schedules. However, I have still had a great deal of adventure.
I kicked off the summer by jaunting over to LA. I love that from phoenix LA is but a short jaunt. I would post some really great pictures here of Autumn and her real pretty babies, except they are on my computer at home, so you'll just have to know that I love crashing at autumns.

A short bit after I got back, me and Katy packed up Katy's car and began our summer on the road. Katy wanted to start in Utah, so up to utah we went.

A few days later we drove out to San Francisco where we met up with our friend jeff, and we frolicked and played with Erin.

We then drove up the coast to the redwoods... it only took us about 9 hours. I'm pretty sure on the big freeway its a 3 hour trip. Needless to say I got carsick. But it was a beautiful drive.

We played in both the state redwood park and the national. We camped a lot. We ate hotdogs.

We all drove into Oregon for the first time together. We followed the coast up camping along the way. We also had to stop at all the goonies sights. They say its a great movie. I have somehow missed seeing that movie, or at least remembering it.

We went to portland, got a wheelchair for the broken katy, and explored.

We drove to Seattle. Appartently MY FRIEND DAVE, is jeff's friend Dave... we didn't realize that until we met up with them. We saw a troll under a bridge, made a music video, stuck gum on the gum wall, ate fish.. You know, seattle.

We drove up into Canada and Jeff hooked us up with a marriott on the water in Vancouver. We rented a boat for half the day and drove around the bay, then we went to the aquarium.

We jumped in our car for more driving. Drove out to the national parks of Yoho, Banff, and Kootenay to play and camp in the canadian rockies. I wanted to see the northern lights. I didn't. but we saw a lot of other things.

From here we drove down through idaho, stayed with Jeff's sisters in Boise, and found ourselves back in utah after 2.5 weeks of adventure. I realize this bulleted version tells nothing of the glory of each day. But i think it is sufficient to say that each night we said, "I think we out did ourselves... that was even better then i had imagined"

All in all It was good. I think Katy put over 8,000 miles on her trusty lil car... 3 Windshields and 500 hot dogs later.... life is good.

Kids say the darndest things

Back by popular demand:

"Can we have a test on this?! PLEASE!!!??"

"DAMn; Miss Cook! Cook! Thats the tightest name!"

"I hate that teacher. I should pray for her."

"I stayed up and watched Twilight twice last night. Yes I've read all the books...SSSSHHH- don't tell anyone, they wouldn't let me in the locker room if they found out" (boy) (I told you guys lil gangstas love their bad chick flicks)

"You dressed like a vegan today..."

"Miss can I take a picture with you today? I like how you're dressed. You look like a tree"

"Cook- whats wrong? You don't have any arm sleeves or leg warmers on. You only have a weak sauce thing tied around your ankle- your shirt matches your flip flops, your pants look normal, and you only have one necklace on. We're all really worried about you! It was a bad morning huh?"

"I'm sorry- I can't listen when you're hand is in that thing. I can't take you seriously"

me: every when the buzzer rings, you will stand up and move to the seat next to you. You have 3 minutes. Begin
Him: (BUZZ) Where do I go next? Me: to the computer next to you,........ the other side. Yes. good. (BUZZ) Him: Where do I go now? Me: to the computer next to you, no, the other side, you already sat at that computer, yes, that way... good. (BUZZ) Him: Miss Cook? Should I go here, or....? Me: Or WHERE? YES, go THERE... that is the next spot over.. good. (BUZZ): ME: FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF!!! (we cycled this about 9 times, I left out about 4 of the moves...)

We turned in Bibliography's. One student titled theirs: " ogerphy thingy" nevermind the fact that he's a senior, been speaking english his whole life, and should have included his period and name at least in the title even if he couldn't quite pull out Bibliography.

You should see the other guy...

Welcome to Gimp central. Together, Me and roomie katy officially make one whole person! and one broken one.

So i chose to pedal my bike to work last Friday. Before I left I had a distinct prompting to say a prayer. So I stopped and prayed. Then i continued on my way. Roughly 5 miles into the journey, the sun began to rise. I was traveling west down a street we refer to as Baseline. Baseline is a very fast road that consists of 3 lanes both directions and bike lanes. I was in the bike lane, clearly. I was coming up to the light I turn off Baseline, when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. A van. Headed strait at me. This van was turning left into a parking lot i happened to be passing in front of, it had to speed up to cross all 3 lanes of traffic, and either due to the rising sun, or the smallness of my frame- it was clear he didn't see me.

I first saw the hood of the van when it was but one lane away from taking me out. All I had time to think was: he didn't see me- i can't do anything- its too late. Then I thought, "Maybe i AM going fast enough..WAIT NO I"M NOT !@#$." Then before I could think anything else the world slowed down. Somehow, instead of him and his 2000lb vehicle creaming into the side of me, he in this slowed down world, sped up, and miraculously got in front of me so that he crossed my path, instead of the other way around. As soon as his nose was in front of me: IMPACT. I didn't even have time to stretch my fingers to brake. I still hear the thud. I still remember my head hitting the side. I remember my whole body hitting the van, and I remember twisting towards my right side, leaving my left side to take the brunt.

I don't remember falling. I remember seeing the sky, and seeing my hands convulsing at my side. They felt like they had been electricuted. I remember trying to breathe. The guy got out of the van and pulled my bike to the side of the road. Then he came back and kept trying to grab my crazy arms. He was yelling at me: STAND UP STAND UP- YOu have to move! I remember thinking, "who is this idiot? doesn't he know not to touch a person after you hit them with your car?" I yelled or cried or screamed at him to leave me alone, and then after taking inventory to make sure everything was working, i slithered or crawled to the sidewalk where i flattened back down. He called after me, "I'm going to go park"

Apparently he drove away. However I didn't realize this until the second responder was practically on top of me in seconds, asking who hit me, and when i told him it was the van, he started ordering people which directions to follow. He said he had called the ambulance- I thought it was real handy that he had a walkie talkie instead of a phone, much faster contact with police that way.... it wasn't until later, it occur ed to me he must have been a police man.

Well the firemen came, and they were pretty, and they checked me out, and sat me up, and were amazed to find no blood, and no breaks (my knees weren't even skinned- NO road rash at all!). I filled out a police report, while sobbing- i think a funny picture to have would be the one the investigator had to take to document the scene. HE was joking around and asked me to smile, as my hands continuously convulsed and i continued to cry in shock... I tried valiantly to smile though, which got laughs from everybody else.

I called Angela to get a sub: she answered on the first ring: she never answers. She said something told her to have her phone with her, so she took it into the bathroom with her that morning.

I called aunt kristen with her truck to come get me and my bike: She is a trickster to get a hold of too... she answered immediately... she said she just felt like she needed to have her phone with her.

My mom was in town, and i chose not to call her, until I wasn't crying anymore- she was calling me... and when i finally talked to her she said, "I'm so sorry i missed your calls, my phone was turned off" I told her, "Mom, i didn't call you- I just called kristen." She insisted. I thought she was crazy. We checked our phones. My phone did call her, right after the accident.

I sat in the emergency room for a few hours. IT was like being in Grey's anatomy, each doctor prettier then the one before. Male and female. I got one hundred X-RAYs. My favorite part was when one of the 7 technicians they had talking the xrays of me came jumpoing back in the room with a big smile on her face as she exclaimed: THAT WAS SUCH A PRETty PICTURE!! IT WAS BEAUTIFUL

Verdict:
No scratches: not one. (i scratch myself on my bike when i just move it to vacuum)
No bruises: not one. Not even where my face hit the van.
No breaks: none
No sprains, no road rash, no concussion (thank you helmet)
If I didn't wear a crazy brace bandage thing, you wouldn't know anything had happened. The doctor said my body was a contusion though- which i guess is code for bruise. However, no discoloration. i can't move my left arm, and my back is on fire, and i'm real tired, and nauseated... but how can you complain- that'll all go in time.
Meanwhile: HIGH FIVE TO MY STAR GUARDIAN ANGELS!! YOU GUYS ROCK THE WORLD!! i'm a walking miracle!

a little life in me yet...

Spring Break. How did I ever live without it? I haven't written in a while because, well, quite frankly, my days all seem like the same day. While i'm sure something different happens each day- i don't really remember, nor do I really care. I have a great apathy towards life currently. I am also around computers WAY too much, so, I avoid them when I can. While today was the same as it ever was... Last week... was pretty cool. I went to LA, and saw people I love. I think I'm around cameras too much now too because I didn't take too many pictures. I saw Pond and Sarah and their new baby! But alas I have no documentation of such events. I also played with Matt and Charlie! once again no documentation. I did however spend the most of my time with my beardsleys. I will let the pictures say most of the words.

My favorite Henry moment, if one must be chosen, would be when we were playing BBall and we were playing by the rules that he gets to shoot and score, and I get to shag balls. Well one of the balls I threw back to him came down upon his little fingers fiercely jamming them. He started crying immediately. Tears rolling down his lil cheeks. I ran over and swooped him up to hurry him inside to his daddy Barrett. I figured dad needed to fix this one. As I cradled him up a simple but kind of funny thing happened. The ball that had been laying at his feet got caught and it got wedged in between his legs. Noticing only slightly that his legs were now like nutcrackers around a basketball that had inadvertently and quite by accident been wedged there, I ran towards the kitchen, where daddy Barrett was cooking dinner. However as I passed the screen door, through his tears and sobs he tapped me on the shoulder and indicated that I needed to put him down NOW. So I did; not questioning his urgency. "Oh Henry! It will be ok!" I tried to console him. He looked up at me through bright red eyes and drenched cheeks and cried as he pointed down at the basketball still stuck between his feet... "JO! JO!" he cried as he pointed down at the ground and more tears fell, "Jo! ITS SOOO FUNNY! Its so so funny Jo!" and then the tears started turning into giggles although they went back and forth quite a bit because, it was really funny-- but man jammed fingers really hurt. Props to Henry who finds it JUST as important to laugh at life as immediately and important as it is to cry.

Me and Autumn got a special treat when the grandparents watched the kiddies so we could ride cruisers up and down the beach... it was AWESOME.

It should be noted that Laine likes flowers and pretty things. Which makes sense because she is a pretty flower herself. Thank you Autumn and Family for having me!
