Published!

Sorry, still no photos and it's a busy week so I'll try to get it. But in the meantime here is the published article for the research I did over the last couple of years. It is the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology!

The role of vulvar skin biopsy in the evaluation of chronic vulvar pain.

It's easier to read if you open up the PDF format.

Slacker. . .

So this is what I have been lately. It's late, and I'm sick with an anatomy quiz and practicum tomorrow morning to I'll do a quick overview and update with pictures from our other computer with the camera tomorrow.

Adam had an endoscopy a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately he has to have them done to stretch out the scar tissue in the bottom of his esophagus that builds up from acid reflux. This is preventable if he would just take his medicine, but since he won't he gets the joy of having a minor surgery performed. But one benefit is he was so silly as the drugs were wearing off. Every 5 minutes the blood pressure cuff would start to tighten to take his blood pressue and he would have forgotten where he was and what was happening. A couple times he scolded me for squeezing his arm, but most of the time he would just get this confused look on his face and look at his arm to try and figure it out. Pretty silly. The best part of the adventure though was when he had the little throw up bag. He got sick from the meds which is normal and threw up which was not so fun. But they gave him a clean bag in case he got sick again. Well he couldn't remember what happened and kept asking what the bag was for. I told him a few times but one time I got tired of answering so I asked him what he thought the bag was for. And as a quick description (picture to follow tomorrow) the bag has a ring to hold it open and is like a long blue tubed closed at the end. So he turned the thing upside down, so now the ring is as the bottom and this long plastic bag is standing up in the air, and started giggling like a little kid. I'm sure you can now imagine what he was thinking so I asked him what he thought the bag would fit. He informed me that it would fit an elephant, pretty funny and I don't believe they have elephant contraceptives at the hospital. What a fun memory of my silly husband acting like a kid, what great drugs he had!

We also had Drew's kindergarten graduation. It was super cute. It was a pretty important day for the school since this is the end of the first year of DIA (Dual Immersion Academy) and this will be their first class to go all of the way through the program. The kids sang some cute songs, and the teachers spoke, 2 of them in spanish, and 2 in english. I am so glad we choose to send Drew to DIA and I love all of the new and different experiences that it offers to him which he would not be able to get in the local public school.

Gideon is now 6 months old and is growing up so fast. He is sitting up, scooting around on the floor, and trying to eat solids. We had his check-up and he weighed in a 16lbs 6 oz which is 29 for weight, and was 28.5 inches long making it 94% on the growth chart. He is such a long skinny thing and it's hard to find clothes to fit him. I cannot express how happy we are to have him in our family.

I have also had another really rough week, I wish my life would slow down a little bit. Many of you know that we would really like to have another baby in our family and we are giving ourselves until Aug to get pregnant or to be content with our 3 wonderful boys. Well last monday, on the day of Drew's graduation I got pretty nauseous. Because that was my only symptom we decided I should take a pregnancy test. And we were thrilled to get a positive. Unfortunately it was then followed by 6 negatives over the next week so I'm not pregnant and it's been a hard adjustment. I had gotten my hopes up and been excited only to find out we need to keep waiting. It's so hard when you want to be pregnant and things don't work out quite the way you planned. But I really feel that children come when they are supposed to and I'm working on being patient.

Also I got my first anatomy test back a few days after the previous event and didn't do as well as I would have liked. I tend to take tests fast, and sometimes that means I end up not reading questions right, or answering them completely. This was one of the biggest problems with my exam and I need to try to be more patient because I know and understand the material pretty easily.

So to top off our very busy weeks we have now gotten Strep in our family. Pretty stinky. Adam came down with it on Father's Day (how sad!) and had a super high temperature and it hurt him to swallow. We ended up at the ER on Sunday night because we were worried about a staff infection from his endoscopy, but he's now doing much better and is almost back to normal. But the stinker gave it to me. I woke up with a sore throat today (not to mention I had a final in one class and an anatomy test tomorrow) so I skipped my first class and went to the instacare. I have now tested posted for strep for the first time, but luckily caught it early so I don't feel too bad. We are hoping that the boys don't get it and stay healthy for the summer.

One last thing, and this is a good one! Adam passed his macro economics qualifier! Isn't that awesome! He didn't pass this last year and ended up losing his funding and having to retake the class. If he didn't pass it this time he would have been done with school and they would have given him a masters degree. But now he gets to finish his PhD and I am so proud of him! He is so smart and is going to make such a great professor. I am also so glad that he wants to make sure he is home with our kids and is able to support me as I go to medical school. I couldn't ask for a greater husband.

So there is my overview and pictures will be coming.
