ROSWELL: UFO INVESTIGATORS REVEAL POSSIBLE OTHERWORLDY RELIC

UFO investigators held a press conference at the Roswell Civic and Convention Center on Thursday to announce that they found ... something.

"At this point, we don't know what it was or why it was there," said UFO investigator Chuck Zukowski. "I don't want to speculate."

"We want to announce to the world that this stuff needs further analysis," explained Dr. Bill Doleman, a retired archaeologist who supervised the dig where the items were found.

The artifacts were discovered in 2002 during a dig sponsored by the Sci Fi Channel, at a site where some eyewitnesses say a mysterious craft ricocheted off the ground in 1947.

Zukowski and his sister Debbie Ziegelmeyer, state director of the Mutual UFO Network in Missouri, volunteered to help with the excavation, and found the object that has been most thoroughly analyzed. The tiny piece of silvery material came from a site where water tended to gather. Ziegelmeyer was sifting through buckets of dirt when the object emerged, and she quickly clutched it to keep it from blowing away. The material began to curl up after it was exposed to sunlight. Ziegelmeyer speculated that it might have been sensitive to light or heat, although Doleman suggested it may have started to dry out after it was taken out of the ground.

The item, along with other specimens found by the team, was stored at the University of New Mexico's Office of Contract Archaeology.

Zukowski said it took years for them to figure out whether they could run tests on the items.

"We didn't really know who had responsibility for these things," he said. "After reams of paperwork I was able to get a hold of it."

Zukowski examined the item using an electron microscope. He said that the microscope belonged to a microchip manufacturer in Albuquerque, and a recently-retired technician helped him use it, but he declined to identify either the company or the assistant, saying it might be unseemly for them to be involved.

Zukowski said he determined that the artifact was mostly aluminum silicate. Other elements showed up in the sample, but he believes they are mostly from the microscope's surroundings or dirt that clung to the object.

Doleman said that aluminum silicate is not uncommon in nature, but the item was found on a limestone plateau, which is mostly calcium carbonate. There seemed to be nothing around that would contain or produce the compound.

Zukowski also took extremely close-up pictures of the artifact, capturing some features only a few microns long.

"We see some damage in here," he said, "and it's interesting that when you get down that small, you can see holes."

He also displayed an image of what looked like a tiny metallic whisker.

Zukowski, who designs microchips for a living, said that the features struck him as unusual.

"We know this thing definitely is not organic, number one," he concluded. "Number two, we know it's not indigenous."

The small silvery object was one of many that turned up during the dig. Doleman presented slides of what looked like a piece of PVC pipe and fragments of plastic, as well as what seemed to be leather and rubber from a shoe. Doleman said that they had not been analyzed, and he would like to confirm that they are what they seem to be.

"We want to figure out that they are using the best scientific methods available," he said.

The excavation also unearthed pieces of igneous rock that seemed out of place on the limestone plateau.

"They look like they may have been burned," noted Doleman. "Who knows what kind of burning a UFO creates when it smacks into the earth and then goes bouncing back up into the sky?"

The items that Doleman found most interesting were some orange blobs of material. Assaigai Analytical Laboratories Inc. in Albuquerque found that they were modacrylic adhesive, a heat-resistant synthetic copolymer. The Union Carbide Corporation was the first to produce modacrylic fiber in 1949.

Zukowski said the modacrylic adhesive might tie into an eyewitness account. One of the volunteer excavators was Nancy Easly Johnson, daughter of Maj. Edwin Easly, who was allegedly at the crash site. Easly told Johnson little about the incident, but mentioned orange debris.

"We'd like to get (the objects) identified, and see if they can shed light on what happened in that broad in-the-middle-of-nowhere pasture on the Foster Ranch in 1947," said Doleman. "We're looking for funding, and/or professional laboratories who would be able to take this stuff and try and identify it."

He said that there would be benefits for any lab willing to do pro-bono work, including publicity, possible information about useful alien technology, and "everybody in the UFO community will think they're really cool."

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE-KBIM) - Only a proper scientific analysis will show if a tiny piece of metal can shed new light on the supposed crash of a UFO near Roswell, researchers appealing for funds said Thursday.

In 2002, UFO investigators, including some from the University of New Mexico, found small pieces of material near the 1947 crash site of what has become known as the Roswell Incident .

The group said it did some preliminary tests that found the mystery material is not native to the Roswell area although it is from this planet. This metal piece is aluminum silicon, they said.



Whatever happened on the remote ranch near Roswell, military officials at Roswell Army Air Base issued and then rescinded a news release saying a flying saucer disk had been recovered from the site. The military then dismissed the episode as the crash of a weather balloon creating generations of people suspecting a major government cover-up.

Investigator Debbie Ziegelmeyer said the groups' find could mean answers for people around the world and also for those in Roswell. "There are a lot of people out there who are skeptics," she said. "Now we have something that may be trace evidence. We owe it to the citizens of Roswell to say, 'Here it is. We got this. This needs to be analyzed."



On Thursday the group gathered to ask the public for help after running out of money for tests. It's asking anyone from the scientific community to help them test these materials to find out their origin. The group wants to have the mystery solved in time for the annual Roswell UFO Festival that's held in early July. The group's 2002 dig was funded in part by the Sci Fi Channel and the UFO investigators.

RECENT CONFESSION FROM A ROSWELL FIREMAN SAYS, "IT WAS A FLYING SAUCER"!

A firefighter who was with the Roswell Fire Department in 1947 has confirmed that the mysterious crash in the New Mexico desert that Summer was in fact of an unearthly craft!

The firefighter, now age 90, related stunning information to this author in a lengthy interview conducted recently. Respected Roswell author Kevin Randle also talked with the involved fireman to confirm the details of his story.

Some time ago I located the son of Rue Chrisman. Rue was the Fire Chief for the Roswell Fire Department in 1947, passing in 1981 at age 98. Chrisman's son explained to me that he knew that the town's Fire Department was somehow involved in the crash event. But the son was sparse in his conversation, not really wishing to elaborate. When pressed, the son said, "It did happen. There was a big coverup. The crash was real." I asked him how he knew of this, he paused and said, "I knew too many who knew."

I then asked him if any Roswell Firemen from 1947 are still alive. He replied that there was still "one left." He only mentioned the surviving fireman's surname as "Smith" and that one of his family members attends the same church as the involved fireman. Working with Kevin Randle, we identified and located the elderly gentleman and sought his testimony.

FRANK JOYCE - ROSWELL CONSTITUENT TO UFO CRASH IN ROSWELL PASSES AWAY

Frank Joyce, a veteran New Mexico newsman who reported on the "Roswell Incident" as it unfolded and was a familiar face with his outdoor report on KOB-TV, has died. The Albuquerque resident was 85.

Joyce was in his 20s working at Roswell radio station KGFL in 1947, said his son, Ron Joyce. "All I'll say is he was the first reporter at the scene," he said about his father.

Frank Joyce thus became connected with the famous UFO story. He was interviewed about the incident a number of times over the years and depicted in documentaries and movies, such as the TV film "Roswell."

"They did several interviews with him on CNN and The History Channel and various UFO documentaries," his son said.

The elder Joyce talked with his son about what he had seen, but his son on Wednesday declined to share the tale. Asked how his father felt about being associated with the incident, Ron Joyce said the feelings were mixed.

"He liked the positive aspect of it, but didn't care for the people that didn't believe in it, you know?" the son said.

Born in Alabama and raised mostly in Roswell, Francis Walden Joyce graduated from Roswell High School, where he was an All-State tackle.

He continued his playing career on a football scholarship at the University of Alabama.

He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service, his family said.

By the summer of 1951, Joyce moved to Albuquerque and began interviewing people for KOB-AM, according to a 1990 Albuquerque Tribune profile.

He did play-by-play for UNM games and interviewed the likes of John Wooden and Muhammad Ali over the years, and then came to be known for his KOB-TV "Outdoor Report." By 1970, he was spending most of his time reporting on outdoor sports, including hunting, fishing and skiing, for KOB-TV, the 1990 story reads.

"He enjoyed his work at KOB," Ron Joyce said. "He was a good family man, good father, good husband to my mother. He always took care of his kids and put family first. If anyone of us ever needed anything, he was there to help."

Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Ballard Funeral Home in Roswell.

Joyce was preceded in death by his wife, Frances D. Joyce. His survivors include his sons: James Kelley Joyce and Ronnie J. Joyce; grandsons, Brian and his wife, Tina; Kyle and his wife, Amber; and Chad and his fiancee, Jordan Luckenbill; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Regan Kate Joyce; and daughter- in-law, Brenda K. Joyce.
