Abandoned
This is an old abandoned barn I saw on a rainy day early last April in the Skagit Valley in Washington, and, yes, another drive-by. Very typical for the Pacific Northwest the roof has a lot of moss on it. There's also a bit of light peeking through that roof.

"Arctic Survival"
The Ice Park was scheduled to be closed on March 25th, but because we have been having colder than normal weather the sculptures and the Kids Park are all still in good condition, so the Park will stay open until April 1st. Of course, the nighttime views are harder to come by with each passing day. Today sunset was at 8:19, but twilight lasts another hour or so. Every day we gain about seven minutes of daylight. The Park closes at 10:00 p.m., so you can see the rapidly diminishing time to enjoy the colored lights. The forecast is for a little warmer temps in the mid 20s to low 30s all week, so it will be a good time for all the kids to enjoy the slides in the Kids Park. To see more photos go to Ice Alaska.

Daytime Multi Block
The Ice Park has so much going on that it is hard to cover everything. I've made several trips to the Park and took many photos each time. There are 19 Multi Block entries and 39 Single Block entries, and then there are all the slides and many sculptures in the Kids Park. After the competition was over many of the sculptors have created more sculptures throughout the Park. There is also an Amateur Open Competition and the Youth Classic. The Ice Park will be open through Sunday, but I'll be posting photos for a while. Today I've waded through some of my multitude of photos and made collages of some of the finished Multi Block sculptures.
The first collage is "Olde #7 On The Bridge To Nowhere." It took 10th place and won the Governor's Award. It was carved by Alfredo Arroyo, Bud Lies, Greg Beachey, and John Crumpacker of Indiana, USA. This one is rally huge. In the upper lefthand corner you can see one of the big cargo trailers that they used this year to shade the sculptures.
Next we have"The Gallery" which took 5th place and was carved by James Duggan and Joel McRae from Georgia, USA, Jeff Meyers from Ohio, USA and Victor Dagatan from the Philippines but currently living in Georgia, USA.
The next sculpture is "The Land Calls" and was carved by Oleg Klavdeev and Eduard Ponomarenko of Russia.
Then we have "Geoflames" that was carved by Stan Kolonko, Chris Uyehara, Jerry Perun, and Wei Sen Liang, all from New York, USA.
This sculpture is "Mother" carved by Ivan Zeuv of Russia. Quite a feat to do alone!
Next is "Balance" carved by Rodrigo Ferreira from Portugal and Sean Majka from Illinois, USA, and Patricia Moodie from the USA.
Then we have "Arctic Survival" carved by Stephen Dean from California, USA, and Nic Sanford of the USA and Junko Yanagido of Japan. This one was particularly hard to get an overall view of, but you have a wolf with a raven next to it on some rocks looking at muskox in the circle that they form to fight off attackers.

I'll come back to the Multi Blocks with the colored lights at night.

A Second Chance
As we were heading east in early October on Route 20 in New York we were looking for a place to stay as it was close to getting dark. We passed this wonderful old barnyard at a busy intersection and I was only able to get one quick shot. It was one of those barns that you really want to spend some time at, but this stretch of road didn't have many motels, and so we needed to keep going. As luck would have it, just a very little ways up the road we found a delightful little spot to stay. Click HERE to go to that post.
And so I had a second chance! The next morning was bright and sunny, and we went back up the road to the barn. I was able to get out of the car and take my time. I think this is my favorite barn that we saw on our month-long roadtrip in the NE.
Going around the barns to the left behind the silo was this barn.
And then on around to the back side of the barns.
Adding to the charm of the morning the fields around me as I took the photos were gorgeous.

Rebirth of Elements
Placing second in the World Ice Art Championship Multi Block competition if "Rebirth of Elements." It was carved by Vitaliy Lednev, Egor Stepanov, Aleksandr Parfenov, all of Russia, and Mario Amegee of Monaco.
I like the reflection of the trees in the photo above. To see more go to Ice Alaska. You can also see more ice art that I've posted over the last several years in my Labels section at Ice Park. Today's header shot is the nighttime view of the Single Block 1st place winner, "Treasure Hunter Blue Marine."
