AIDEN WAS BORN WITH SHONES COMPLEX/HLHS. (HALF OF HIS HEART WAS UNDERDEVELOPED) HE HAS HAD 2 OF THE 3 STAGE OPEN HEART SURGERIES THAT HE NEEDS. HIS LIFE EXPECTANCY IS UNKNOWN & ONE DAY HE MAY NEED A HEART TRANSPLANT. ALTHOUGH AIDEN HAS A BIG ROAD AHEAD OF HIM, HE IS DOING EXTRAORDINARILY WELL. WE ARE SO BLESSED & GRATEFUL TO HAVE HIM HERE WITH US.

Where does time go...

Wow! I can't believe it's already been two years since I've blogged about Aiden. I was doing an assignment for a class on blogging & signed on here and realized how long it has been.

Let's see...Aiden is three years old, he'll be four in January. He still has not had his Fontan. He has been doing really well. So well that things have been just"normal", which is great. He has had a cardiology visit every six months. All of them have gone great. In fact, at his last visit in August, they did his Echo & EKG, and Dr Cocalis said that he was doing so good, that he didn't want to see him for eight months, instead of the usual six months. Dr C said that when we come back in April, he will schedule him for his heart cath. So, we are looking at like May, or June for his cath. We talked about the Fontan, and Dr C says he likes to do them in the summer if he can, so he may have his Fontan in the summer of 2012 or as far out as summer 2013. Of course that all depends on his O2 sats, but thus far, everything is great!

19 months, just recovered from H1N1 Virus & still going strong...

Yes, you heard right! Our whole family, all 4 of us, had the Swine Flu, we were pretty sick. Our swab results came out positive for influenza A so they were sent out to be tested for H1N1. It takes 7-10 days to get the results so we didn't find out till this week that we tested positive for H1N1. Thankfully Aiden was started on Tamiflu immediately, you have to start it within 48 hours from when you first got sick, so he just got a touch of what the rest of us had. That stuff works great because he didn't get even half as sick as we did. My older son Darrion came home from school sick & that was it for the rest of us. The joys of having a child in school! We were very fortunate! Pretty scary stuff but things were just fine!

A few more pictures of our busy little bee...

Aiden & his cousin Zak who is 10 days younger than him

These boys aren't even 2 years old and Zak already wants to go after his cousin, oh no! :)

a little fun at the park

Aiden loves his "goggy"

and so does his big brother...(excuse the house...it's under construction)

BMXer? I think not...

Aiden just loves bikes. Anytime he sees them anywhere, or anything small enough with tires, he yells "bike bike" over and over. He just goes crazy over them! So Gary decided to take Aiden out and they came back with this cute little tricycle & all the gear to go along with it. Aiden loved it! One problem...it was too big for him and he was just not quite ready for it. Sorry Aiden, it was fun, but up it goes for a few months! (out of sight out of mind)

Camp Taylor...

This weekend were able to take atvantage of the opportunity to go to Camp Taylor, the camp for kids with heart disease. We had a blast! This camp is so amazing! It was so much fun for the entire family!

The first night there they had a sock hop (dance) which is right up Aiden's alley since he loves to dance. He really took to one of the volunteers there named Jocelyn. She was also a volunteer at the SIBS Snow Camp when Darrion went this past December.

Towards the end of the night, Aiden was on the dance floor dancing his little butt off. He was really getting into it and loving all of the attention he was getting. He was so funny!

Aiden had so much fun! It was so cute he stayed pretty quiet the whole weekend. Quiet meaning, he didn't really cry at all. He definately did a lot of pointing, running & yelling things out when he saw things he likes.

Aiden was trying to play swords, another words "hitting sticks" at the bubble pools. This boy didn't seem too happy when their bubble sticks got stuck together.

more bubbles & "hitting sticks"

and finally some real bubbles!

When Gary & Darrion went kayaking, they pulled up to where Aiden & I were watchng. Aiden tried so hard to figure out a way to get to his dad, he was running side to side back and forth trying to find an opening to get to him.

It was a wonderful experience to be able to see & meet other kids with CHD's, kids that have had the same surgeries that Aiden has had, and to meet & connect with other families with similar experiences.

thank you camp taylor for such an amazing opportunity!

Greeat Grandpa Charlie

Just 5 months ago if Aiden's Great Grandpa Charlie said as much as Hello he would start bawling. Now, he just loves his Grandpa Charlie. He goes over to him & will take his hand and walk with him pulling & leading the way. If you ask him where's Grandpa, he points at the front door, looking out to look for his Grandpa.... Its so cute!

cardiology appointment

Today Aiden saw Dr Cocalis for his 6 month follow up. He was so good during his echo. He stayed pretty quiet & very still during the whole thing! It went so much smoother than I expected!
His O2 sats were in the low 90's which Dr Cocalis suspected some collaterals as soon as he saw his numbers and during the echo he did see a couple of them. He says that the only concern would be if he got "too pink" but that he would rather him be a little too pink than a little too blue. He says there is nothing too worry about or to look for as far as symptoms and such and that they will just remove them during the Fontan or when he has a Cath if they need to. Otherwise...his heart function is Great, his EKG was normal & he finally came off of the lasix! Now we are down to just Enalapril and aspirin! Dr Cocalis and I also talked a little about the Fontan & the future. We will see him again in 6 months!

Another pic I had to share...Believe it or not this silly boy is laughing! He has this new little laugh... when we laugh he cracks up, crinkles his nose (his whole face really) and squints his eyes. It is so funny! I tried to get a shot of him in full on action, but it's so hard to get one in time!

summer weather...

This boy just can't get enough of being outside! With the triple digits we hit this weekend we deciced to get a little kiddie pool. Aiden loved it... It was so cute he kept saying "bath bath". He dunks his face right in the water. I think this kid just might be a fish!

I managed to get a picture of Darrion when he was helping out for a bit. Those come few & far between anymore with this guy now that he's older!
