Jared and Rachel decided to try out for the community theater this summer. Actually I think my words to Jared were "you need to try out with her and if only one of you make it, no one does it!" Of course I am partial to Jared's beautiful singing voice, but I honestly wasn't expecting him to get a main role, and he wasn't either. We were also very happy to find out that Rachel had been cast as a munckin and also as a sunflower in the Scarecrow scene. I thought it would be just a little summertime fun, not realizing that it really would consume part of our summer. I have made more girls' tutus that I can count, helped cut out more Winkie's top coats and designs than I can remember. And now, the play (4 performances down and 4 to go) I am "Mrs. Tinman" right behind the curtains, with a fan, water bottle and sweat cloth assisting Jared so that he doesn't passout from heat exhaustion in that tin suit - yes it is real tin. Jared and I have also become quite proficient at applying prothestics and silver makeup. Rachel's hair and makeup aren't quite as drastic but she loves getting involved in the preparation part too.
Yes, we had a real "Toto" whose name is really Daisy. Such a cute dog who loves getting treats all night long. We also have make some new friendships. This definitely was an amazing experience, not your typical community theater - very professional. All in all, I give it a standing ovation and I'm glad we did it.
