KGamma2 Makes For Easy Gamma Adjustments On KDE Plasma With Wayland

KDE developer David Edmundson announced today his KGamma2 tool in aiming to address a pain point for KDE Plasma desktop users on Wayland.

With KDE Plasma moving ahead with Wayland-only desktop support moving forward, some KDE users have expressed the lack of the existing KGamma tool working under Wayland and thus still reliant on the X11 session. But with KDE KWin's Wayland support, it already has far greater color management support than the existing basic gamma adjustments supported by KGamma on X11... Just not exposed in the same manner or with the same tool/command.

Edmundson took to addressing this usability gap with KWin ultimately having the gamma adjustment support and more via the ICC profile Video Card Gamma Table (VCGT) and developed KGamma2 as an easy-to-use GUI similar to the original kgamma.

So without any new code paths needed for KWin or KScreen, KGamma2 provides for easy gamma adjustments with KDE on Wayland. Compared to kgamma on X11, KGamma2 on Wayland supports multiple monitors with independent values. KGamma2 also works with night color and the ability to blend the colors together. It's also a smoother experience at launch.
