US biology lab locked down for more than a week amid smuggling inquiry

The Trump administration has spent months investigating the laboratory after a Chinese postdoc was charged with smuggling biological material into the country.

Update: Indiana University Bloomington reopened its biology laboratories on 19 May, 12 days after they were shuttered. That day, the US Department of Agriculture inspected the lab of Roger Innes and found no major violations of its regulations. Innes tells Nature that his team members need to regrow many of their plants from seed because the lockdown interrupted experiments, but it is a "huge relief" that the lab is up and running again.
