Tata Consultancy Services Interview Experience | Assistant System Engineer-Trainee | Full Time

Last Updated : 31 Dec, 2024

I received this offer through my campus placement drive. The initial selection was based on the TCS NQT written test, and only candidates with qualifying scores were invited for interviews. I was selected for the Ninja Role (3.5 LPA), which primarily considered the candidate's aptitude score.

Stages of the Interview Process

  1. Technical Round
  2. Managerial Round
  3. HR Round

The Technical and Managerial rounds might be conducted together at the interviewer's discretion. These rounds usually last 15 to 25 minutes. Candidates who clear the first two rounds are eligible for the HR round.

Interview Experience

Technical Round

The technical questions focused on the skills mentioned in my resume. Since I listed Python, SQL, and HTML, most questions revolved around these topics. Here are some examples:

Python Questions:

  • Why did you choose Python over other languages?
  • What methods and libraries have you used in your Python projects?
  • Write and explain a part of your project code.
  • Write a Python code to find the second most frequent element in an array.

SQL Questions:

  • What is the rank function?
  • Query to create a table.
  • Explain the workflow of SQL commands.
  • Write some basic SQL queries.

HR Round

The HR round focused on assessing my communication skills and personality fit. Some of the questions included:

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your weaknesses, and how do you work to overcome them?
  • Share something unique about yourself that could contribute to the company.
  • What challenges did you face during teamwork in your projects?

Review of the Interview

In my experience, the interviewers placed a strong emphasis on communication skills, likely because this is an entry-level role. Alongside basic programming knowledge, good communication is key to cracking the interview. Additionally, HR preparation is crucial, and I believe this was where I performed best.

Tips:

  • Focus on improving your communication skills.
  • Be clear with the basics of the technical skills you list on your resume.
  • Don’t neglect HR questions; they can make a significant impact.
