Life at Fitzwilliam College

College Site
Fitzwilliam College is known for its spacious grounds and beautiful gardens full of blooming flowers throughout the summer. The College has some of the best and most modern accommodation in Cambridge, and there is a wide range of facilities that you will have access to during your stay with us.
The Grove, a Grade II listed building, dates from the end of the Napoleonic Wars. First owned by its architect William Custance, the house is in gault brick with a slate roof. Emma Darwin lived here between 1883 and 1896, after the death of her husband Charles.
The Central Hall Building, New Court, and the Chapel at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, have been recently listed at Grade II by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, on the advice of Historic England.
Our large Auditorium has won architectural awards from the RIBA, Concrete Society and, together with Gatehouse Court, won the Brick Development Association Building of the Year in 2005.

Dining
Students will dine each day in the College cafeteria (called a 'Buttery') for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On some occasions, a packed meal may be provided (e.g. when on an excursion).
Dietary requirements are routinely accommodated, please be sure to note these on your application form.
After both the opening and closing ceremonies, you will be invited to attend an authentic Cambridge formal hall - a dining experience that is at the heart of social life at Cambridge!
We also have a recently refurbished Coffee Shop located on site, selling snacks, hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and more; this is an open space for students to purchase refreshments and to study and socialise during the day.

Facilities
During your stay with us you will have access to the College’s excellent recreational facilities such as the nearby sports ground and various social spaces. For those who choose to worship or reflect together, there is a multi-faith prayer room on site. The College’s newly refurbished café is open all day where you can purchase delicious snacks, coffee, milkshakes and smoothies. Many students choose to work together from the café whilst enjoying a refreshing drink!
