Lat weekend I caught the train up to London for my second photo walk with Wesley, an Amsterdam based photographer with a wonderful online weekly newsletter.

Before the walk I met up with Dan Le Brun at the David Hill Gallery to see the exhibition Mark Steinmetz: Taken from Light which was a wonderful way to start the day, and we walked down to Notting Hill Gate to get the tube to Green Park.

Aquileo | Thinking in Black and White

I'm trying to shoot in black and white for a monthly photo challenge, and it's really changing how I think about both composition and tone. I'm so used to thinking with colour, that it's surprisingly hard!

Took a few shots yesterday in London. I went a bit too hard on the exposure dial underexposing, but definitely like a few of them!

I went up for a camera walk with an old friend and spent a gloriously sunny day walking round the city, southbank and barbican shooting a mix of street and street portrait.

I started out in the City, and met someone who was doing some visualisation for a book promotion, so helped out with a few shots.

I was a little hesitant signing up to a weekend photo workshop on a topic I thought I was comfortable with, but I'm so glad I did! I'd already been shooting street portraits in both Brighton and London, but I'm always learning and I wanted to learn more.

The workshop was run by Gabrielle Motola, a talented and experienced portrait photographer, and we met at Watchhouse at Somerset House in London.

It was a great mix of theory and practice, with Gabrielle leading us through a series of exercises and discussions to help us improve how we approaching people for portraits, but also (more importantly) the mental and psychological side of it.

Istanbul has a special relationship to cats, treating them with reverence and care. As a result there are street cats everywhere, which were a joy to photograph.
