Important: We’re currently updating settings for Google Search services, which include Search, Maps, Shopping, Flights, Hotels, Translate, and News. These are rolling out gradually over the next few months. If the settings in this article do not match what you see, history and personalized recommendations for Search services are still controlled by Web & App Activity.
When you have Search Services Personalized Recommendations on, Google Maps may recommend places you might like.
How Maps chooses places you might like
To choose which places to show you, Google Maps uses data from Google Account settings. To make sure you get the most relevant recommendations, turn on these additional settings below.
- Search Services History: This might include your searches from Maps, and activity saved by other Search services. When this setting is on, you’ll see suggestions to places you searched for recently.
- Timeline: Creates a map of the places you visit when you're signed in to your device. When our systems indicate you may be under 18, this feature will remain turned off or unavailable. Learn more here.
- Device Information: Allows Google to know information about your phone, like your contacts, calendar entries, and apps.
