Protect yourself from likely scam calls

To help protect your finances and personal information, your bank or financial institution can verify the authenticity of incoming calls appearing to come from them. This feature is designed to help identify and block spoofed calls, where scammers impersonate your financial institution to deceive you.

What you need

Important: Feature availability varies by financial institution. Not all banks or calls are supported.

If it's available in your country or region, carrier, and financial institution, you must:

  • Have an Android phone that runs Android 11 or above.
  • Have your bank's official app installed and have previously signed in.

To check if your bank supports the feature, go to your phone’s settings.

Understand caller ID spoofing

When a caller intentionally fakes the phone number displayed on your caller ID, they use a tactic known as spoofing. Scammers may use official bank phone numbers to try to convince you the call is legitimate.

Exploiting your trust, they may ask you to transfer money to an account they control. This is a common type of fraud.

Stay protected with verified financial calls

To help identify and block spoofed bank calls, verified financial calls uses 2 primary methods:

  • Real-time call verification: When your bank calls, your Android phone can automatically ask your bank’s official app for verification.
    • If the bank confirms the call is genuine: The call continues as normal.
    • If the bank can't confirm the call is genuine: Your Android phone automatically ends the call to help prevent a potential scam.
  • Inbound-only number protection: Some bank numbers are designated as "inbound only," meaning you can call them, but the bank never uses them for outgoing calls. If a call appears to come from one of these verified inbound-only numbers, your bank identifies it as a spoof and ends it immediately.

Review ended calls

If your bank identifies a call as being spoofed, your Android phone disconnects the call immediately. After the call ends, you'll receive a “Security & privacy” notification that confirms a potentially fraudulent call blocked.

Take action when you’re unsure

If you feel unsure about the legitimacy of a call, hang up immediately. You can always call your bank back directly with the official phone number from their website or the number on your physical payment card. This makes sure you’re connected to an actual bank employee, not a scammer.

Check bank compatibility

To check if your bank supports call verification:

  1. Go to your Android phone settings app.
  2. Tap Security & privacy and thenMore security and privacy and thenVerified financial calls.
Tip: You can only find the “Verified financial calls” page if you’ve at least one financial app that supports this feature.
