I wonder if this was intentional. I’ve never heard chink used that way before.

Yeah, IIRC they did this with latino artists as well, so they can avoid giving them major awards. Their criteria is bullshit too, something like 99% of lyrics shouldn’t be english. So if an asian artist has a big hit but it’s a song in english, then they aren’t eligible.

GitHub commit d7447b1 states that “accounts without phone numbers can never get phone numbers, and accounts with them can never lose them”.
So you’ll have to register a new account if you want to decouple your number.

The article says their main reason is spam/abuse, as requiring a phone number adds some sort of gate to lessen that. Emails are easier to create en-masse. I don’t agree with using phone numbers either, I’m just relaying their reasons.

These companies mortgaging their future because of FOMO on something that doesn’t show any evidence of profit for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, .zip gives its users full autonomy to block instances/users as they see fit, which is why I’m on their instance.

I didn’t like it as much as well. I have no issues with the writing or casting. All my criticism is with Nolan’s execution. Starting with Tenet, then Oppenheimer, he has this new habit of using quick jumpcuts, which I guess he uses for creating tension and suspense, but it just feels like rushing instead. At least let some scenes linger so they can breathe.
I also didn’t feel like the IMAX format wasn’t used to its full potential. I only really felt the scale of things whenever they were running on a beach. The final voyage of his crew felt like it was shot in a studio, which it probably was vs the daylight shots. The sacking of Troy looked like they were fighting in a theme park, not a walled fortress city.
And lastly, as usual, the sound. Like holy shit, can Nolan be bothered to at least turn down the music a notch or two when people are talking? Maybe it was just my theater, but I think I missed at least 20% of the dialogue.

Whataburger, but specifically the Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger. Their regular burgers are pretty generic, but the one I mentioned is great. I don’t even buy it often anymore because you can buy their sauce at the grocery store, so I sometimes make my own version at home.

We need to scale AI development!
Openweight models start growing
No, not like that!

Not sure either, as normalized definitions change over time (i.e. first/third world). I glanced at wikipedia and Singapore isn’t even considered part of the outer sphere there: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglosphere.
I guess if you just go by the “countries where english is widely spoken” definition, then it fits. But even then, Hong Kong doesn’t really fit that. The Philippines also speaks English, moreso than Hong Kong, but I guess their public transportation build cost doesn’t meet the criteria for expensive.

Interesting how Singapore and Hong Kong are part of the list. Are they really considered part of the anglosphere? And yes, I know English is also spoken there.

Well that’s…embarrassing. I guess you can chalk it up to tech illiteracy.
My local IMAX is still first-come-first-served and I hate it. Having to arrive up to 2 hours early (for premiere nights) and wait in line the entire time sucks. This is a true IMAX theater and not the liemax that AMC has.

It’s weird how he thinks the fediverse needs saving and takes it upon himself to be its savior. Feels like a messiah-complex.
And even then, he still could’ve gone and carved up what he would define a safe space by his standards. All he needed to do was be upfront about it. He can’t accept that people are mad not because he created a blacklist for users and instances he deems unsavory, but because he tried to hide it behind an app that is advertised as a generic front end for lemmy and is supposed to be useable for everyone. If he disclosed what he was doing behind the scenes, then people who don’t agree with his methods would just stop using it, exactly what he was telling people that you have the choice to not use it, when he was trying to defend what he did.
I mean, look at .world. They have defederated from a ton of stuff because of their policies, and they’re still doing fine because users are well aware of their stance.
The irony of trying to turn the fediverse into something it was created as an opposition of.
I remember I was one of the first people who provided feedback when it was first announced. I never got to using it because I browse mostly on desktop at it was designed for mobile (at least the time, I dunno what it looks like now).

Oh man, I thought for the longest time Skyscanner was a small independent project. Didn’t know Trip owns them.

The credit score is how financial institutions measure how good of a source of money to extract from you are. It penalizes you for actually being responsible with your money, because you’re not as valuable to them if they’re not earning interest from you.
Pissed me off when my score went down after paying off my car in less than 2 years. That’s when I learned the reality or what it actually is.

I’m in the middle of Season 3 (The Vampire Lestat) and it’s great. The style of S3 is way different than the first two because of the shift to Lestat as the main character. I personally think S3 is the best so far.
Didn’t their drummer get into some controversy with his opinion on tips that the merch booth was getting? But yeah, that’s the only negative news I heard about them lol
The new Ghost In The Shell adaptation is pretty good. I haven’t read the manga but it’s supposed to be much more faithful to the original work than all the past screen adaptations.
Silo S3. I honestly don’t really enjoy it that much anymore, but I’m powering through it just because I want to see it through.
House of the Dragon S3. It’s ok, definitely better than S2 at least. It’s funny how they use Harrenhall as purgatory to stash characters they don’t have any use for until they’re needed.
