I don‘t know if this is the right place to ask, but is this an OK build for a first start in selfhosting? Is there anything obvious I could improve?
I‘d mainly run Nextcloud, Immich, some Docker containers and smaller web applications and cronjobs.
I’ve been self hosting a few services on a raspberry pi-based NAS and decided I was ready to up my game. I got on eBay and found myself a decent deal on an old Supermicro dual-cpu board with an EATX form factor. Now I need a case for it.
Im in the market for a NAS solution. By NAS I don’t mean running Jellyfin and some homepage thing for vibes, I mean your old-style “it just provides network attached storage”.
I’ve been trying to upgrade from 10.10 to 10.11 for a while now, as the Android TV app keeps nagging me, and every attempt ended with impossibly long library scan times.
With v0.63, audio streamer Navidrome finally got full lyrics support. I just wanted to try it out and fell flat on my face because… well, not even the official docs say anything about lyrics. Also, I’m not too familiar with how lyrics are added to songs in general. So my questions are these:
For $600 the Minisforum MS-R1 gives you 64GB DDR5 ECC, 12 cores, dual 10GbE, a real PCIe 4.0 x8 slot, M.2 NVMe, Pi-compatible 40-pin GPIO, and actual UEFI boot. It runs Debian and Proxmox/KVM.
I don’t really know much about M.2 slots and the different capabilities and how the key type corresponds, so I don’t want to spend money on something that won’t work.
I selfhost several public-facing sites, including my personal blog. I’ll be needing to relocate my servers soon, though, and I wanted something more “proper” to display in their place while the servers are offline.
I have 27 containers running with rancher on windows. Long story short, I’m tired of the resource use and stress on my machine by running the VM. My data folders are split up by duty (admin, utility, media, virtualization) each duty has its own folder, containing the services’ folder with data/config directories and one compose.yaml file for those services.
All the compose files are connected to a master compose file in the parent directory that starts all of them. My compose files have references to the media hdds that are defined with an .env file next to the master compose.
Since the last release “Mort”, dokuwiki supports markdown natively in addition to the old syntax. This can be activated in the settings (incl. a combination of both).
I use Debian as my daily driver, but I’m still a newbie. I would like to selfhost a few apps, initially on a VPS, but I will probably move to a local PC once I diagnose what is broken with my old computer.
In case you were one of the lucky ones able to snag a free account in the olden days, the terms have changed. Instead of 4 CPU and 24 RAM that you were free to whack up amongst 1-4 VPS, now you got 2 CPU and 12 GB RAM, so either one dual-core VPS or two single-core. If you keep using the old setup beyond a certain date (can’t be bothered to look up when that is) you’ll get billed; at reasonable rates, I’m sure.

I’m looking for an alternative to Google’s Find my phone that can be self hosted. Most important feature would be to see the last known location of a mobile phone without disclosing the location to any third party system. It would be nice to have features like making the phone ring or wiping the phone remotely.
Looking for a recommendation on an LLM that can guide a user on how to manually set up a home server that runs Jellyfin, Arr Stack, etc. Have a couple of friends interested and I have some spare old NUCs I was going to give them, so I was going to download the software for them and then walk them through it.
Made a status page tool, almost no configuration (a few environment variables), ready to drop in compose.yaml. If you run Podman but don’t receive status alerts yet, try setting Yoself up, it should be relatively easy.
Couple of days ago I lost the connection to ntfy.sh, so we started talking on the #selfhosted matrix.org chat about notifications and ntfy, I started selfhosting ntfy and then stratself pointed out one can also use Conversations as a provider.
I was having some issues with Invidious the other day, which I resolved. However, I came across this tidbit of info that I’d never seen before when I first deployed it:
I have a family immich instance self-hosted. All pics from my kids devices are auto-uploaded on our instance. This is nice, but also updates a lot of photos and videos of they kidding and joking, ando lot of repeated stuff. Immich only allows that I exclude my own stuff, and it’s really boring have to login with each account to exclude my kids stuff. Is there anyway that I can manage and exclude photos and videos of other users?
Has anyone tried to use kdrive form infomaniak as clone of directory where immich stores photos? Does it make any sense? I think it is one of the cheapest options right now for backup.
Dockheck is a CLI tool to automate docker image updates. Interactively or unattended with notifications, image backups, exclude/include, labels, autoprune and more. Can be run as is, without configuration or with extensive options.

Love the new dashboard and status bar. IMO this is the best client out there, particularly if you’re self-hosting and combining it in an organization and streaming workflow.
I’m considering Restic and Backblaze B2 as my backup solution. I’m a little worried having read about the potential for unexpected restore costs. For example, I’ve read restoring lots of little files adds to the cost (reference). What are the things to look out for when backing up and restoring that can add to the cost? Are there any best practices to keep costs down?

Hi! I’ve been thinking of setting up a Headscale control plane on my VPS and adding my NAS as a node so that I can install the tailscale client on my phone and laptop and access my services from outside of my network. I have navidrome, Immich and a few more things.
I’ve been trying to move away from pocketcasts and started using AntennaPod + selfhosting GPoddersync for syncing. Which works great between Android devices.
I have started moving away from gmail and have started exporting my older e-mails via the takeout option. This generates .mbox files. I don’t really use any e-mail clients on my computer and do most of my e-mailing on my phone, so I don’t have a way of viewing/searching those files.

I’ve been self hosting for a while and been using am 2 tb HDD I bought on aliexpress two years ago to host movies and series.. I bought a second drive to separate them and organize my media.
Like the question implies, I really want too get off of instagram. Its not the same space anymore, especially with the consistent push from Meta to use AI. Ive even made my profile private so those features don’t automatically turn on. Its gotten crazy there.
I’m finally making a real effort to add beets to my life. I’ve been hesitant because I like what I like and I (mostly) know what I’m doing, you know? I also have a lot of local independent albums that are just not likely to get tagged anyway.

Which platform is the best? I’ve heard about Gitlab, Gitea and Forgejo.
For me the fact that the platform doesn’t run some background analytics and does not sell my data is very important.
Has anyone managed to get multiple CalDAV calendars (e.g. personal and work) to send out event invite emails using corresponding email aliases from the same email account?
TLDR: The r/selfhosted subreddit has a Discord server. The owner’s account got hacked leaving the server in a precarious state. They submitted a support ticket, but Discord has not taken action in weeks and probably won’t at all, so they are considering starting a new Discord server.
So, I’ve finally gotten a comfortable setup for my beautiful podman quadlets, its a simple debian system, heavily systemd reliant, and I’m curious about how yall admin such a thing, I’ve got a couple of scripts to create users, skel the home directories, and templates for services.
Bonjourno! I got a couple of domain names to register and I wanted to switch providers from google. I checked out a couple of the bigger ones like Cloudflare and Infomaniak but they’re all asking me to upload a government photo id for security or whatever… I figured I’d ask around here to see what yall are using. I dont need anything crazy, mostly just the registration part. Bonus points for hosting dns with an api to manage records & what not but that part isnt necessary.
