]]>A Justice Ministry department announced on Wednesday that it questioned an Israel Police officer on suspicion of obstructing an ongoing murder investigation.
According to the Justice Ministry’s department for investigating police misconduct, the officer is suspected of meeting with her sister, the main suspect in the investigation, shortly after the suspected murder of the sister’s former boyfriend, 19-year-old Bnaya Razi.
Investigators suspect that after the sister and another suspect informed the officer of the homicide, the policewoman did not inform her commanders and took actions to obstruct the investigation before the murder suspects were arrested.
The officer, who serves in the Traffic Division, is suspected of obstruction of justice and breach of trust. After being questioned on Wednesday, the officer was released under restrictive conditions, including three days of house arrest and a ban on contacting anyone involved in the case for eight days.
The officer’s attorney said she denied the allegations against her. According to him, she informed her commanders on Sunday morning about her connection to the murder suspect. Razi, a resident of the Givat Ze’ev settlement near Jerusalem, was stabbed to death on Saturday in an apartment in the city’s Nahlaot neighborhood.
Medics evacuated Razi to the city’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Police have arrested at least six suspects in connection with the murder.

A Secret Service officer is accused of masturbating naked in a Miami hotel hallway after following a woman to her room.
John Andrew Spillman, 33, a member of the United States Secret Service’s uniformed division, was arrested around midnight Monday and charged with indecent exposure, according to an arrest affidavit from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, as reported by NBC News, The New York Times and The Guardian.
The alleged incident took place late Sunday night at the DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport & Convention Center, where deputies said they found Spillman naked and “masturbating at the end of the hallway” on the sixth floor.
A woman staying at the hotel told investigators that Spillman had followed her and other guests from the lobby to their floor, prompting them to quickly retreat to their room because she was “in fear for their lives,” according to the affidavit. She later saw him outside the room, the document states.
Hotel security also told deputies they observed Spillman engaging in the same behavior on the floor before law enforcement arrived, according to the affidavit. He was taken into custody just after midnight Monday without incident.
Spillman, who is from Marble Falls, Texas, is based in Washington, D.C., and joined the Secret Service in 2019. He had been in South Florida as part of an external screening security detail tied to President Donald Trump’s visit to Trump National Doral for the 2026 PGA Cadillac Championship. Officials said his assignment had concluded Sunday and that he was off duty at the time of the alleged conduct.
The Secret Service confirmed Spillman’s arrest and said he has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal case and an internal investigation.
“The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity that I demand of our personnel,” Richard Macauley, chief of the agency’s uniformed division, said in a statement. “This agency takes these matters with the utmost seriousness.”
Spillman was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County on a $1,000 bond, according to authorities. He appeared in bond court on Monday, where the presiding judge made no mention of his federal employment, according to local reporting.
Online inmate records for the Miami-Dade Corrections system were unavailable due to a maintenance notice, making it unclear whether Spillman had posted bond as of publication.
Spillman does not appear to have an attorney listed in court records as of Tuesday, and the county public defender’s office declined to comment, according to NBC News.
A hearing in the case is scheduled for May 27.

]]>]]>A group of rabbis were arrested on Thursday evening while protesting outside of 26 Federal Plaza, a Lower Manhattan immigration courthouse where a number of immigrants detained by ICE are being held.
The demonstration, named “Jews Demand: ICE Out!,” drew hundreds of New Yorkers who condemned the federal agency, and was led by a swath of rabbis who denounced ICE through a Jewish lens.
“G-d takes the side of immigrants. And G-d demands that we do the same,” said Rabbi Jill Jacobs, CEO of T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights.
The protest was organized by T’ruah and another progressive Jewish group, Bend the Arc. The two groups previously staged a protest outside ICE headquarters in Washington D.C. in February, when public outcry against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement tactics was at a high.
The latest protest comes as the intensity of opposition has receded even as the agency continues to arrest and move to deport migrants at a rapid clip. It was notable for including a wide range of Jewish organizations that do not always work together, particularly as debates over Israel have divided Jewish progressives.
“I would say that I think it’s representative of a cross of different parts of the community, different denominations, folks who have, I would say, differences in other political views but are able to really be together here today,” said Jamie Beran, Bend the Arc’s CEO, in an interview.
Organizations represented by rallygoers on Thursday included the Workers’ Circle, the Jewish Labor Committee, New York Jewish Agenda, HIAS and Zioness, among others.
Many speakers called on Gov. Kathy Hochul to pass the New York for All Act, which would ban local and state law enforcement from cooperating with federal agents such as ICE.
In addition to Jacobs, the rabbis who spoke included Rachel Timoner of Congregation Beth Elohim; Hilly Haber of Central Synagogue; Rick Jacobs, president of the Union for Reform Judaism; Ellen Lippmann, formerly of Kolot Chaiyenu; and Roly Matalon of B’nai Jeshurun.
A dozen clergy, including 10 rabbis and two reverends, were arrested after blocking traffic in front of 26 Federal Plaza. The rabbis included two — Fort Tryon Jewish Center’s Guy Austrian and Congregation Beth Elohim’s Stephanie Kolin — who currently work in synagogues.
Phylisa Wisdom, the executive director of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Office to Combat Antisemitism, made an appearance at the protest, as did the progressive congressional candidate Brad Lander.
