>You are not entitled to the work of others.
The people who actually did the work have already gotten paid their salary and been moved on to another project, what you're really saying is "Shigeru Miyamoto should have more zeros in his account if not for people like you :<<<"
>I don’t care about whatever ridiculous reaching you do to try to justify it.
Okay, well if we're going to just plug our ears and go "la la la la la", I can do that too. More than happy to engage with you on your level, sport. :)
>Since you want to talk about illiteracy, you clearly stated a positive about stealing an indie game which is advocating for it.
Again, as I've already explained, piracy is not stealing and your inability to comprehend the meaning of the word "steal", while very funny, does not make a very good foundation for your argument. But *do go on,* this'll be fun.
>Stealing the game because it doesn’t have a demo is an insane justification.
*[giggles]*
>Demos cost a lot of extra money to make.
yes I'm sure putting in a ~30 minute timer that tells you "sod off and buy this now" when time's up, or removing all the already-added-in content after x point in the game and putting up a big "buy now" nag screen when you hit that point is Very Very Difficult. I'm sure. But, you know, rather than trust the illiterate stranger on the internet, I think I'd like you to cite your sources for me. Because I just recently was able to play a demo developed by *a single indie developer* that gave me a great idea as to whether or not I'd like to purchase the full thing (which I did -- [great little idler game btw](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4078200/Dwarf_Eats_Mountain/), it's also available [on itch.io](https://greenwizardgames.itch.io/dwarf-eats-mountain)), and the demo was simply an old alpha version of the game with lots of stuff missing that hadn't yet been added. Now, to me, that doesn't seem like *that hard to do*, polish up an unfinished build of your game with the first chunk of content, enough to call it a demo, but I'd love to hear your sources to the contrary. I eagerly await them.
>If you pirate the full product without paying for it, you are depriving the creators of a sale.
and are the creators selling me *the game,* no strings attached I can slap it on a flash drive and plug it in in 10 years and it'll fire right up; or are the creators selling me a revocable license to play the game they can pull whenever they like?
If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing. We... we just went over this. [Read, goddamn you, *read!*](https://youtu.be/dxlMFsw1OfY)
>That is theft, plain and simple.
*[giggles]*

Can't you see, they're almost destitute over there at Nintendo! How dare you take money away from the shareholders!
>Also just because several storefronts sell revokable licences doesn’t mean it’s not theft either. There are ways to purchase and own your games. You even mentioned one (GOG).
actually it does -- as I and many other people have already explained to many, many morons much like yourself -- especially when **not every game is available on GOG.** If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing. I refuse to re-hash the full explanation for you, you can look up any number of lengthy explanations that will break it down very easily for you, this comment is getting long enough and I've already had enough of trying to force you to learn for one morning.
>And yes, if you don’t have enough money to purchase something, you can get fucked. That’s how society works, crazy I know.
directly contradicts
>I never said that poor people deserve to be uncomfortable.
which is *fucking hilarious* considering they're *consecutive sentences.* How uncomfortable do you think hunger is? Or homelessness? Is it merely a matter of degrees, of how much suffering is justifiable? If it is, then can you put a point on the exact caloric deficit where stealing a loaf of bread goes from unjustified, to justified? *No?* ***Hmmmm.*** Then it sure seems like you're just making shit up as you go along.
Either you think those of fewer means deserve to be uncomfortable, or you don't. It really is that simple. And saying "if you don't have enough money, get fucked" would seem to indicate you think they deserve it; and while that may in fact be the way most of the world works, it doesn't have to be and I refuse to accept it wherever possible. That you so are so enthused by this concept is disturbing, to say the least.
>But you’re not entitled to shit just because you feel like it.
and you're not entitled to sit on top of a high horse and tell people choosing between rent and food they should give Nintendo (or Steam or Epic or *who the fuck ever*), a company with literal billions of dollars, some of their meager savings and be grateful for the opportunity to do so, and yet, here you are! Funny, that.
>Video games are not the sole source of entertainment.
yes, the disadvantaged can also pirate movies, books, music, or any other number of sources of entertainment, I'm glad you're aware.
>People managed to not die of boredom for thousands of years before video games.
Sure, and we also used to ride on horseback and in horse-drawn wagons, so you don't really *need* a car to live in the US, right? We managed to survive for thousands of years without cars!
And yet, I'll bet you drive a fancy motorized carriage and not a horse-drawn wagon. Funny, that -- times change, so do expectations and the standards of living! Wild!
>If the game you want isn’t on sale you can try these crazy techniques called “waiting” or “saving money”.
or, OR, I can avoid giving money to shitty multibillion dollar companies that use that money to send C&D letters to youtubers and emulator devs and to pay for patent troll lawyers, and have the thing I want to enjoy *now*, without feeling the ick of funding their shitty behavior and without having to wait just to make you, random illiterate stranger, feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Yeah I think I'll do that instead, champ. by volore@scribe.disroot.org |
| 15 days ago | mod | Removed Comment It's called an analogy, you know what those are, right?
Here, let me help.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/analogy
>1a: a comparison of two otherwise unlike things based on resemblance of a particular aspect

>1b: resemblance in some particulars between things otherwise unlike
Again, to recap: If ***total*** *deprivation of stimulation/entertainment* is considered *torture*, then it stands to reason that *partial deprivation* of it is at least *uncomfortable.* That's what I said, that's what I wrote, and this is not, and was never, intended to say that "going without video games is torture", and trying to strawman it into that will not work on me, sport. Try again. by volore@scribe.disroot.orgreason: civility |
| 15 days ago | mod | Removed Comment nothing amuses me like watching people twist themselves in knots to defend literal billion dollar companies that do not give a single fuck about them. hell, it's free entertainment I don't even have to torrent for! all I gotta do is make 'em dance. :D by volore@scribe.disroot.orgreason: trolling |
| 15 days ago | mod | Removed Comment >Yeah no shit dude.
well, the other guy didn't seem to grasp that "free" is still much much less than 14c/hr. I'm glad you understand basic math, we're all very proud.
>Entertainment is not a basic need and not having a lot of money absolutely does not justify theft of it.
hahahahaha you're a funny guy, buddy. Fun fact, did you know that lack of entertainment and stimulation is actually a popular form of bloodless torture? Research ["white torture"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_torture) and tell me entertainment is not a basic need after you're finished, go on, I'll wait.
Now, if we can both agree that a *complete* lack of entertainment and stimulation qualifies *as a form of* ***literal torture,*** (at least, I sure hope we can after reading that) then I'm sure we can both agree that partial, inadequate entertainment is at least an unpleasant experience, the same way that having inadequate food or housing insecurity is an unpleasant experience, if not to the same degree. And, hey, I'm real sorry if you happen to think that poor people deserve to be uncomfortable, but I don't. Me, I'm of the opinion that people of any economic means should have everything they need to be happy, including entertainment, and I'm sorry you don't see things that way and I sure hope for your sake that your economic situation is never so bad you get to ask yourself fun questions like "fun, rent, air conditioning, or food, what do I forgo to make ends meet this month?"
>And honestly, it’s especially fucking gross that you’re advocating for stealing indie games too.
gosh, you *are* pretty illiterate, huh? Re-read this again. Study it. Internalize it and try your level best to understand it, because I won't repeat it a third time for you.
**"I’m a little more irritated when people pirate from small indie developers (but I still accept there is good that can come of this, i.e. try before you buy)"**
this is not "advocating for stealing indie games", first and foremost because stealing implies depriving someone else of <thing>. Piracy is not stealing, because buying on most storefronts (save for GOG) is no longer owning, and because nobody else is being deprived of being able to purchase the copy we "stole". Further, if you squint *really hard*, you can see I said it actually **irritates** me when people pirate from small indie developers. I don't think that really counts as "advocating" for it, I simply said I can also see good in it, because not every game offers a free demo to try out before purchasing.
This concludes our English lesson for the day, please don't make us revisit it, I have extremely limited patience for people who can't fucking read.
>If you don’t have a lot of money to spend on gaming, sales and used games are your friend.
sales and used copies are not always available for the game you want at the time you have the extra money to afford it when you're frequently strapped for cash, and may still not reach a price point someone poor can afford for a very long time post-release. I suppose you think someone who didn't have extra cash to spend at the right time can just get fucked in your book, though, huh?
This is to say nothing of the fact that "buying used copies of games" might soon be something we look back on as a fond memory, because if you somehow think Nintendo is not greedy enough to eventually do what Xbox and PlayStation already are, oh boy, are you gonna have a *fun* wake-up call in a few years to a decade. by volore@scribe.disroot.orgreason: civility |
| 15 days ago | mod | Removed Comment >"wrongfully"
and already, there goes your argument, within the first five words; because your definition uses this word we now have to ask: is it wrong to take from the rich to entertain the poor? *I don't think so.*
Or are you about to tell me that Nintendo, Steam, etc. aren't rich? That'd be a fun argument to have.
And, once more, if purchasing the content legally doesn't actually *get you ownership of the content,* I don't believe anything is being stolen at all. If they can revoke the license, then you aren't paying for the content anyways. What can not be owned legally, can not be stolen illegally. It isn't property, that much is certain, unless perhaps you buy on GOG. A license is, at *best*, an idea, and if it's one they can revoke at any time then it's not one you can really lay legitimate claim to post-purchase either.
>By your logic, I am entitled to every thought or idea you or anyone else has ever had because I’m not physically taking something so it’s not stealing. Right? Right???
actually, yes, copyright law is bullshit too, I'm so glad we agree on this! :3
>Take a deep breath. Take a minute. Shave the hair off your neck, put down the pizza rolls. I’ll be here when you’re ready to admit you’re wrong.

| 15 days ago | mod | Removed Comment Good for you sport, I don't steal either, nobody here has been deprived of the ability to purchase [game] because I pirated it, just some shareholders didn't get some extra pennies on their dividends. Of course, if you're a moron that's conflating piracy with stealing, you might believe differently, but I'm sure you wouldn't be a moron like that after I *and many other people* have explained *extensively* how piracy isn't stealing in a world where buying isn't owning, right? *Right?* by volore@scribe.disroot.orgreason: civility |
