Get ready for fall 2026 move-in!
We’re so excited to welcome you to campus this fall! Move-in is an exciting time to settle into your new space, meet your neighbors and kick off your Warrior experience. Fall move-in will take place on Wednesday, August 26 & Thursday, August 27. Please plan to arrive at your scheduled time.
Before arriving, please:
- Be a registered student for the fall 2026 semester.
- Review the Warrior Living Guide to ensure you’re not packing prohibited items and are aware of all housing policies.
- Monitor your Wayne State email for their housing assignment and other important updates.
- Make sure you have your OneCard before moving in. Visit the OneCard website for details on how to obtain one.

What to expect
Students living in Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments, Towers Residential Suites, Ghafari Hall, Atchison Hall and Chatsworth Suites
On your assigned move-in day and time, you'll first arrive at your designated check-in location.
- First-year students and all Atchison Hall residents will check in at the Wayne State Fieldhouse.
- Returning residents, transfer students, and graduate students will check in at St. Andrew's Hall.
After completing the check-in process, you'll receive your room key/move-in information before driving to your residence hall or apartment's designated unloading zone.
To help ensure a smooth move-in experience for everyone, students and guests will have 20 minutes to unload their belongings. Once finished unloading, please move vehicle(s) to one of the designated parking areas:
- Parking structures 2 or 5 for standard vehicles
- Structure 5 outer lot for oversized vehicles
Our move-in team will be available throughout the day to help direct traffic and answer questions.
Students living in The Thompson and University Tower Apartments
Students living in The Thompson and University Tower Apartments (UT) will check in directly at their assigned building to begin the move-in process.
- The Thompson: Students may arrive and move in anytime between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on their designated move-in day. No assigned arrival time is required.
- University Tower Apartments: Students are assigned a move-in time based on their floor and should arrive during their scheduled time.
After checking in and receiving your room key and move-in information, proceed to the designated unloading area outside your building. To help keep move-in running smoothly, you'll have 20 minutes to unload your belongings. Once you've finished unloading, please move your vehicle to Parking Lot 72 for the remainder of your move-in.
Move-in staff will be available throughout the day to assist with check-in, direct traffic, and answer any questions.
First-year and Atchison Hall students
First-year and all of Atchison Hall students can begin moving in on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Your move-in time is based on your assigned floor. At your scheduled move-in time, you will go to the Wayne State Fieldhouse (1290 W. Warren Ave., Detroit, MI 48201) to begin the move-in process, except for students living in The Thompson. Please review the times below and plan to arrive to campus at that time.

Residential Student Orientation – Mandatory for new residents
First-year students are required to attend Residential Student Orientation (RSO), a program designed to help students transition successfully into their new home. RSO takes place on Thursday, August 27 from 1-4 p.m. at General Lecture Hall.
During orientation, you'll meet your Residential Life team, learn about campus resources, and discover how you can help create a welcoming, respectful and inclusive residential community. It's also a great opportunity to ask questions, meet fellow residents, and pick up tips for making the most of your on-campus experience.
Students will continue to receive important information about their housing assignment, meal plan, and move-in logistics throughout July & August. Please continue to monitor your Wayne State email for additional updates or information regarding your move-in. Please review each section below for helpful information as you prepare to move in.
Upper-class, transfer and graduate students:
Upper-class, transfer, and graduate students can begin moving in on Thursday, August 27, 2026. At your scheduled move-in time, you will go to the St. Andrews Hall (5105 Anthony Wayne Dr, Detroit, MI 48202) to begin the move-in process, except for students living in The Thompson and University Tower Apartments. Please review the times below and plan to arrive to campus at that time. Additional move-in details and preparation instructions will be sent directly to your Wayne State email in the weeks leading up to move-in day. Check your inbox regularly to ensure a smooth transition back to campus.

Vaccines
Wayne State University requires residents who will live in housing to stay up to date on routine vaccinations and to have an immunization record on file. COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended, but not required. To learn more about which vaccinations are required and how to submit your vaccination record, visit this website.
Parking
To help make move-in as smooth as possible, please move your vehicle to a designated parking area immediately after unloading your belongings.
Students living in Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments, Towers Residential Suites, Ghafari Hall, Atchison Hall, and Chatsworth Suites:
- After unloading in your building's designated 20-minute unloading zone, park your vehicle in Parking Structure 2 or Parking Structure 5.
- Oversized vehicles, trailers, and moving trucks should park in the Structure 5 Outer Lot.
Students living in The Thompson and University Tower Apartments:
- After unloading in the designated 20-minute unloading zone, move your vehicle to Parking Lot 72.
Please follow all posted signage and directions from move-in staff. Designated unloading areas are reserved for active unloading only to help keep traffic moving and ensure a smooth arrival experience for all residents.
Students can mail packages to their campus address. Please plan deliveries to arrive after you’ve moved in.
Meal plans and food service
The first meal for the fall 2026 semester will begin Wednesday, Aug. 26 (Dinner) at Towers Café. Visit the Warrior Eats website for dining hours, menus and more.
Before the meal plan begins, students can explore local restaurants and businesses in Midtown Detroit. Many offer discounts when you show your OneCard; check the Show Your OneCard and Save website for details.
Students living in apartments who wish to purchase a voluntary meal plan can do so through the Warrior Eats website.
Move-in Resources
There are some additional steps to take before you can move in or out of your housing assignment. You will receive an email from the Office of Housing & Residential Life outlining your next steps. What (Not) to bring
The list that follows details some things that you may want to consider bringing, as well as some things not permitted on campus. Many students bring the things they are going to use right away with them and then later trade things out during a weekend home or the Thanksgiving or semester break periods. For example, you most likely won't need a winter coat until November, so you could leave that at home in August and bring it later in the year. Throughout the year, you might also choose to bring certain items home to lighten the load for when you move off-campus.

A cart or dolly! We have a number of carts available during move-in, but bring your own to skip the wait and move into your new home quicker.

Things to discuss with your roommate(s)
Discuss the items you and your roommate(s) plan to bring to campus. Coordinate with one another to avoid having duplicate items, and agree on items you can share to save space. Begin the conversation early about using each other's things.
For example, if you plan to share cleaning supplies, how will you divide responsibility for replenishing them throughout the year when you are running low? Most students coordinate:- Desk and floor lamps (no overhead lighting in most rooms)
- Bath mat
- Microwave
- Mini refrigerator
- TV, coaxial cable and DVD player
- Wastebasket and trash bags
- Cleaning supplies, including broom, dustpan and mop (you are responsible for cleaning your room or personal space)

Unfurnished apartments only
Students who live in University Towers should discuss with their roommates who will provide the larger items, such as sofas and dining room tables, to avoid having multiples in your apartment.

Renters insurance
Accidents happen! It’s important to know that you may be responsible for remediation cost if there is major damage caused to your unit or the building due to a policy violation or negligence. Although not required, we strongly recommend that you look into purchasing renter's insurance or reviewing your own family insurance policy to determine what items are covered. We encourage you to look for options online.

Warrior Living Guide
The Warrior Living Guide (WLG) is the Office of Housing & Residential Life's official document that outlines all of the rules and regulations of living in university housing. The WLG also has important information about services offered in your building and other valuable resources to help make your stay on campus enjoyable and memorable.

Mandatory Title IX Training
Voices for Change - Online Training for Students
During Residential Orientation, students will participate in mandatory consent training with OPSVE. The university has partnered with an educational technology company to develop an interactive training program for all WSU students called "Voices for Change." This web-based course focuses on several topics of critical importance to students, including:
- Consent and sexual violence;
- Identities and inclusion;
- Alcohol and other drugs; and
- Hazing and Intimidation.

Roommate information
Your roommate(s) information for the academic year is available online by logging into your self-service portal. You can log on to this site by using your AccessID and password. If you do not currently have an assigned roommate, you can check back periodically online to see if one has been assigned.
Please contact your roommate before move-in day to coordinate what to bring to avoid overcrowding in your room/suite. You may also want to begin discussing ground rules for your room or expectations you may have while living together.

Move-in Helpers
In addition to having campus volunteers to help assist moving in, residents are permitted to have friends and family help on move-in day.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (also known as FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (also known as FERPA) affords students certain rights concerning their student educational records. When a student reaches the age of 18 or begins attending a post-secondary institution regardless of age, FERPA transfers the rights to the student. This limits the student educational record information that may be released to third parties (including parents and guardians) without the student's permission unless it is considered “directory information”. Wayne State University fully complies with FERPA.
At New Student Orientation and Parent Orientation, FERPA is discussed in detail, and students are given the opportunity to fill out a FERPA waiver allowing a designated person to have access to their educational record.
