Probably because communism means that the means of production, property and society is owned and operated by 'the people', in the case of Stalinist USSR everything was owned by uncle Joe and if you upset him he sent you to a fucking gulag. Somehow, I think if the workers were in charge and it was actually communist or socialist they wouldn't have been sending themselves to the gulag. The USSR during Stalins time was a dictatorship masquerading as communism.

There's a heavy dose of revisionism here, which isnin-line with Marxist-Leninism's revisions of Marxism. "What can be understood as a vanguard party" is another way of saying, "he wouldn't have called it that, or attributed to it the power roles we give to our concept of vanguard parties, but we're happy to claim he aligned with our system". > you’re fixating on the key problems with it that prevented it from being a successful dictatorship of the proletariat It *was* a successful DotP, as both Marx and Engels themselves observed and wrote about. The attempt to retroactively invalidate and disparage it is only because Lenin veered away so sharply from many of the things that Marx praised it for, like universal suffrage and free speech. Marx had his criticisms of it, of course, but he would have (by every reading of mine) considered it much closer to his ideal, than the USSR. > Having the most politically advanced among the proletariat organize in a political party is the same as how Marx engaged in political practice. This is abstraction-to-the-point-of-false-equivalence. Marx was not doing this via bureaucratic structures of hierarchy and authority that created a *political class*, which is what Lenin did *in practice*. Marx was not in, and wasn't attempting to form, a politburo, and would have opposed it. Lenin exploited the vagueness that Marx left in his discussion of transitionary structures, and ended up recreating the exact same issues of stratified power that Marx was trying to dismantle, in his attempt to essentially force class consciousness via the party. > Stalin was the one in the right on that fight. I doubt we're going to ever agree on anything about Stalin if you think he was the correct leader for the USSR. Trotsky was a traitor to Communism when he went hardcore authoritarian, but by the time he fled Stalin he was realizing that he'd been right in his youth about the dangers of power being vested in structures of authority, rather than the people themselves. All of the Bolsheviks were terrified of the peasants, who were 80% of the country. The tens of revolts and miniature wars that happened were not from bourgeoise-aligned counterrevolutionaries, they were poor rural citizens that were being trodden on by the urban political class. Khrushchev and Brezhnev both at least understood that Stalin's tactics of domination weren't working, and was leaving them incredibly vulnerable to (more) famines and political upheaval, and tried to resolve it through economic programs, but it was too late by that point. > Marxism posits full collectivization across the entire global economy, which represents a true end to class distinctions globally. Wrong, it posits full collectivization across the global economy AND an end to class distinctions. That Marxist-Leninists think that one follows naturally from the other, is why they'll never achieve either.

I am part of the working class, but if criticizing the state takes me out of the category then I'd have a problem. > Says who? Says me. That is my stance. You may be okay with that, I'd not be, though. If socialism is dependent on censorship for its success, then I do not see socialism succeeding as a good thing. If socialism is truly good for the country, then under a system without censorship and with an education system that adequately teaches people to use reason independently and come to their own conclusions without enforcing propaganda, I would assume it should lead to the majority being in favour of socialism anyway. > liberal societies have effectively drawn attention to individual figures, rather than the system itself. It's funny you say this given socialist states disallow criticism of socialism too, so it's really not different in that regard. > Why would people in China make hit pieces on a beloved leader? Why are you taking the absence of such hit pieces as evidence that Xi Jinping is actually evil? You can find articles from [South China Morning Post](https://www.scmp.com/tech/policy/article/3186272/chinese-video-sharing-platform-bilibili-cracks-down-malicious-content), itself a Chinese media platform, criticizing the CPC! You're trying to have it both ways! Alright, if there was criticism against CPC that would be helpful, but the south china morning post you linked to apparently doesn't have anything to do with the CPC but is about BiliBili cracking down on adult content? Searching for the terms "CPC" and "party" returned 0 results on that link. > Do you mean that I am more comfortable making claims about China? It's because I have studied it far more than you have, including the ideology driving the CPC. Positive claims, yes, I mean that. You're admitting to working from a biased position where you don't have a problem making authoritative claims about China when it comes to the positive, but then not doing the same when it comes to the negative (or discouraging others from doing so). I am not about to restrict myself to a hyperspecific and narrow definition of the type of violence that matters and warrants discussion. I will not waffle over specific jargon either because pedantic usage of certain words is not important to me. Violence is something I am concerned about and is however something I'd want to discuss, and China is not as innocent as you like to portray it as. I can provide evidence for this, but I already know you won't waste a moment to assert that every single instance of China's human rights failures are a hoax and never happened to begin with, or that they are progressing, or some other framing that makes them less than what they are. Here's the resources: China being the country with the highest number of yearly executions, in the thousands, being higher than Iran and Saudi Arabia: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2026/05/executions-surge-highest-recorded-figure-44-years/ China on the erasure of Tibetan and minority languages: https://www.tibetanreview.net/chinas-new-language-law-to-criminalise-advocacy-of-ethnic-minority-rights/ China on creating laws to bury evidence of the Uyghur genocide: https://uyghurtimes.com/china-enacts-sweeping-secrecy-law-in-uyghur-region-to-silence-witnesses-and-bury-evidence-of-crimes/ Epistemic violence against the Uyghur population: https://globalvoices.org/2026/03/11/the-normalization-of-uyghur-repression-in-the-name-of-social-governance-in-china/ Chinese authorities blocking life-saving treatment for human rights (land) activist: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2026/03/china-authorities-block-life-saving-kidney-treatment-for-woman-activist-ahead-of-major-government-meetings/ I have seen enough videos of Uyghur people being oppressed by China and them coming out and speaking about their terrible experiences to know the Uyghur genocide is not a hoax, and that is not something I am debating. Though I don't expect you to place any weight on any of the other areas either. I am not trying to "win" this. You are free to view my disinterest as convenient.

What you consider concrete evidence I do not. You say the people of China view it "very favourably" but if you look at the columns for free speech and transparency it is on the lower side, with transparency *barely* even being positive at all. Free speech and transparency are the specific aspects I was talking about; public support is not a silver bullet and can be fabricated by state control. Capitalists manipulating the press to spread disinformation is not an excuse for the state to suppress and censor all criticism. > Of course you'll find extensive criticism of the west within China, the west is the world imperial hegemon. I meant in America over there, not China. It is not difficult for an American to fire up YouTube and find an English video openly criticizing the trump administration. > Criticism doesn't work like that. People don't generally make hit pieces. You can easily find Americans criticizing trump or the US on YouTube with millions of views, if not more. So this is just false. I can easily provide you with such a video(s) if requested. Can you do the same about China, from Chinese nationals in china? > you've continued to make baseless claims about "Chinese imperialism." I have dropped the use of the term "imperialist" in this discussion, but yes I do believe China is violent and opportunistic. > That's why I focus on not making authoritative claims denouncing China Yet you have no problem doing the inverse. I'm not interested in discussing imperialism here. Jargon asides, I see China as being a violent state in its own ways, "imperialist" or not. I don't find your views compelling so I'm not likely to reconsider my beliefs, much less to fit specifically within a communist box, or to adhere to an outlook I don't treat as gospel.

I normally wouldn't respond to these kinds of comments after seeing the gap here, and I want to make it clear that I won't be reading or responding to any more from you after this. I also see that you have left two comments for some reason, but I'll respond to both here. **Yes**, the fundamental concept of property is a pivotal question in socialist and anarchist scholarship; especially so after the rise of poststructuralist and decolonial analytical frameworks emerged in the late-twentieth and twenty-first centuries. On that note, I'd recommend that you not take the writing of a white man from over 100 years ago as your only understanding of socialist thought or even practical applications of the socialism that existed during his time; even if only because such a lack of criticality is bad for effective change. I wonder why someone with this shallow understanding of these ideas would reference Lenin and not Lukács if they're so into Leninism? Have you ever asked yourself that? (Reminder, I'm not asking these questions with the intent to get an answer for myself)

Yes, that is what I have referenced. This way of thinking is incapable of making sense of that as it attributes the inequities to a small group of individuals in positions of power than systems of power. How are *all* of you so uninformed?

Can we have some academic references for your claims OP? Here are mine: Mandarin is now the primary medium of instruction/education for approximately 95% of schools in Tibetan areas, including kindergartens. We have a large body of verified statistics and independent institutions that show this clearly: https://www.mdpi.com/2071-1050/12/18/7267 https://www.hrw.org/report/2020/03/05/chinas-bilingual-education-policy-tibet/tibetan-medium-schooling-under-threat https://www.right-to-education.org/resource/chinas-bilingual-education-policy-tibet-tibetan-medium-schooling-under-threat Tibetan educator and researcher Gyal Lo has projected that up to 70% of Tibetans in China may lose the ability to speak their mother tongue by 2030 if current trends continue. This projection is supported by a wealth of academic studies: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/china-quarterly/article/abs/tibets-invisible-languages-and-chinas-language-endangerment-crisis-lessons-from-the-gochang-language-of-western-sichuan/994D3B3CFDFEA96C30F022369F1DB1FD https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29033477/ https://www.researchgate.net/publication/324778661_Tibet%27s_Minority_Languages_Diversity_and_endangerment Also, in terms of the overarching theme you're engendering, the idea that Tibetans do not experience oppression or persecution, here's a summary of most of the ways in which that provably isn't true. I haven't referenced these as it would take quite a bit of time; but much of it is well documented and you're welcome to conduct a literature search if you'd like: -military suppression of uprisings, -political imprisonment, -torture and deaths in custody, -restrictions on religion, -interference in Buddhist institutions, -suppression of Tibetan language, -cultural assimilation policies, -mass surveillance, -censorship and speech restrictions, -forced relocation of nomads, -environmental displacement, -economic discrimination allegations, -coercive labor allegations, -restrictions on travel and foreign access. Many of these same allegations can be levied at governments such as the Americans; but to differing proportions and often historical rather than modern contexts (excluding Trump). However, rather than one being preferred, it is my opinion that any immoral and unethical system of government does not deserve the support of the people. The fact that you're trying to garner support for just another form of tyranny is at the least concerning and at the most likely duplicitous and an attempt at manipulation from said government itself. In other words, in all likelihood, *waves at the Chinese intelligence system running this thread*.

Both the pro-Russian demonstration and anti-pro-Russian counterparty were far right. Right Sector organized football fans (anti-separatists). Anti-maidan (separatists) organized tituszki. > By “that did it” do you mean the ones that committed the terror attack or the ones who organized the march? Right Sector is likely the culpirit for the terror attack.

They're still privileged over the workers, and that bore out in the USSR and basically every other state socialist experiment. We should learn from that, not stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the weaknesses in the philosophy just because it's convenient. It's almost cult-like: “Create a state, my followers, and you will get true communism.” Your solution to abolishing the state is to replicate the state with more rules and different bosses, but that has never worked. You can call that arrangement whatever you want; it does not change the material relationship when workers are still subordinated to a privileged layer above them.
