Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•the Home Alone house then and nowEnglish
5·6 hours agoWatch any of the current house remodel/building shows and you see how many people want this asthetic. It’s terrible and bland. I hate it.
I just stand there and go pee.

1·10 hours agoAnd you don’t necessarily need to reboot Windows for all of their updates either if you keep it updated. But there’s quite a few updates I’ve run on Linux especially servers that have been neglected when I’ve gone into companies because people are like herder I don’t need to patch or update anything on linux that do require reboots.

1·10 hours agoI mean it’s not really horrible it’s actually a pretty good idea for people that either a are not computer savvy or b wouldn’t normally update without being reminded to do stuff like that. Which unfortunately for people like you and I is the vast majority of people in you know the world. Actual computer users who understand and can do it on their own are very few and far between. Think about an average company of say 5,000 people and that’s a small fish company. There’s an it department of what maybe 10 to 15 if that. And in that case you may be have another 20 users maybe 30 users total that have any knowledge of computers at all. That’s a huge amount of people right there in a huge amount of computers that would never have any updates for patches and become vulnerable to everything from crashing to getting hacked. Without those automatic upd

5·23 hours agoYou know I’m okay with Windows running updates I shut down or anything else like that. It’s incredibly annoying when people don’t run updates and then wonder why their system gets fucked up. It’s just like on Linux when people just absolutely refuse to acknowledge the fact that they need to run updates. And many times I need to run the updates manually through the command line. There are quite a few gooey applications and things like that that will allow you to run updates but many times you still have to run them manually. And then something breaks and people wonder why I broke when they didn’t run any updates. So in the end really who gives a fuck if it’s running updates on shutdown you hit the button says run updates you tell it to run updates and you either close the lid on your laptop and walk away or you carry it till it shuts down within a few minutes and then you shut it down. Or you just let your desktop run until it’s done. It’s really not that big of a deal that people here seem to make it out to be and seem to make 10 different memes a day about the shutdown process on whatever OS they want to shut down.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•r/bald is whatever the male equivalent of a magical girl transformation is
10·23 hours agoUnless you’re someone like me that can not grow a mustache doesn’t grow any sort of cheek hair for a beard. And naturally just grows a simple goatee that won’t get any longer than about an inch no matter how long you don’t shave it. And my ass is as smooth as a baby’s butt. So is my chest my arms and most of my legs. Luckily because I’m native American the likelihood of me actually becoming bald is not very high.

151·2 days agoI always dislike The Witcher 3. As many times as I tried to like it as many reviews as I read that it was amazing. Dear God the controls sucked and I hated that game. No matter how many times I try it.
I do a lot of work for a hospital system in the intermountain West. They do have rural locations. And they do have IT stuff that is on call 24/7 at every single one of their locations. So it’s not unheard of it’s not unusual it’s pretty normal. I do a good chunk of the work I do for them which is mainly network and systems upgrades as well as Wi-Fi and access points. And I do most of it overnight with one of their IT staff.
That’s laughable. Windows does not demand 100% control over their system. Windows is a you think you can do it let’s see you go ahead and do it and fuck shit up. And when you do fuck it up you’ll have a much more difficult time fixing it. On Linux it’s a yeah go ahead fuck shit up Good luck here’s a log should be easy to fix it but you got to make it work in the first place. On a Mac it’s you’ll get it from this space install it in this way or you won’t use it at all.
I mean seriously what an idiotic thing to resign over. Almost every single court environment is Windows only. Most of them very rarely have Linux exceptions. Some of them might have an Apple exception but usually that’s only for executives. I mean unless he was a dab or something like that in which case it’s a little bit more acceptable. But not by much.
Normally those are pre-approved by IT and you wouldn’t be the one swapping those out. You would put in a request saying hey this item is broken can you please troubleshoot it and somebody would come out troubleshoot it and swap it out as needed.

135·4 days agoAnd I love when your wife calls me Daddy.
Wait. So is it a flex to wear shorts at 10? Is a jacket at 30? I’m so confused. That’s like the mildest of temps. How about when we do yard work when it’s 37.5c? Or go kayaking in 7c because like all those things happened are normal here. I was building a fire pit area today and it was 100° and earlier in the year I was on the lake kayaking when it was 45°.

News@lemmy.world•US accuses American of allegedly wiping his phone using a 'duress' password during border search | TechCrunch
1·5 days agoThere isn’t nuance. You are bringing up things beyond the scope of the conversation and article to try to prove something you can’t.
Article states: man enters country. Border patrol requests search of phone. Man is accused of wiping phone.
Person states: 4th amendment says you cannot search me for no reason!
Court says: yea, actually they can.
Person states: nuh uh. You can’t, I’ll take it to court, we can fight this!
I state: sorry, already been to court. The law says, yea, they can.
Person states: nuh uh! Cause what if this, or what if that! Random bullshit that doesn’t have anything to do specifically with this situation, or anything.
Whatever dude. You want to win. Go ahead. You win. Keep moving your own goal posts to try to prove something unprovable.

News@lemmy.world•US accuses American of allegedly wiping his phone using a 'duress' password during border search | TechCrunch
1·6 days agoThis is exactly describing that if you read the part that I quoted it specifically quotes upon entering the United States. At an international border. And air flight at an international airport is an international border. And they do not require a warrant. It’s already been settled in a court of law although as we can see that can be overturned however it would be very difficult to do so

Never heard those words in my life
