It’s not that it hasn’t been practically true so much that it was just hype. Moore wasn’t a scientist, he was a salesman. In practicality, Moore’s law isn’t “we can double the amount of transistors in a chip,” it’s “we can halve the size of transistors.” Which, anyone who’s gone through highschool can tell you, Planck would have something to say about how small you can get. But rephrasing “half the size for the same work” as “double the work for the same size” makes it sound like an infinite growth market, and you know how shareholders love that.
Eh, there’s a depends here. I’ve had 2 really shit times in the last week dealing with people I know are underpaid; I also just don’t care? Like, here. I’ve been having a scare with kidney disease. I’m in my 30s and I found out that I could have stage 3 kidney disease. I’ve been having near daily panic attacks for years because of a now-ex partner, and I’m on bp meds because my bp gets so high my organs start dying. So who calls me at fucking 7pm while I’m making dinner but the overworked NP at the nephrologists office. I miss the call. She leaves a message saying she needs to speak to me about my test results. I call right back and get routed to their after hours machine. Do you know how fucking anxious I was? I thought it was an emergency. I thought there was an issue with my results; I was devastated, and distraught. My bp shot up to over 200/120. I almost ended up in the hospital again. And for what? Because she decided to stick it to her boss and call me half-assedly? Why would you call me at that time and leave a message like that? Fuck a boss, but when you’re dealing with people’s health, I’m sorry but pick how you stick it to the fucker.
Yeah! Drinky-drinky no thinky! Just like dad taught me.
If I wanted good advice I’d go see a shrink, not a green text forum. Nerd. /s

Or the years spent missing other opportunities because you’re too focused on your regret missing the earlier opportunities.

121·18 days agoWhat you have to understand is that the CEOs and upper management of these companies genuinely believe that human intelligence is just a predictive model. They are so divorced from humanity, from actual people, that they only trust each other, and even then, barely. Some psychologist posited that consciousness is in part predictive, then Curtis Yarvin latched onto that half-baked headline and wrote on it, and then these sick fucks all had the same ideas: That they each are always the smartest man in the room, that their genuinely shallow creativity is deeper than anyone else’s, and that if the next guy who they consider almost as smart as themselves says it’s because humans are just complex llm’s then it must be true; that if they are barely smarter than this shittu technology, then all of humanity must be at or below it.
It’s more important to you to hold some personal sense of moral superiority than engage with the death of millions; your blasé attitude speaks volumes towards your privilege. I have no doubt that the reason you don’t want kids has far less to do with climate change than being able to say you won’t because of climate change.
A) we don’t need infinite growth; what we need is a tapering down so we don’t end up with an entire generation spending their golden years in a ditch. B) As I’ve stated to another user, you’re equivocating. Stop that. We’ve had the same percentile decrease in the last 20 years as we did throughout the previous century; you’re looking at two different rates of decrease and calling them the same because they both happen to be decreases. That’s not how math works.
Crosspost! If this isn’t also trans joy, I’ll eat my hat.

Eh, maybe I’m lucky but we enjoy cooking and enjoy cooking together. We know we can trust each other.
I never said just affecting the south, I said disproportionately. And you’re kind of proving my point: Before widespread information access, you probably wouldn’t even know. And yes, that is a good thing, as I stressed repeatedly in my post; not all reasons to blame the smartphone are bad, many are even good. It is a good thing people know about climate change. About the human cost of imperialism. About genocide. But that alone doesn’t account for the sheer drop, either, and there are negatives to this technology that need to be addressed.
You’re obfuscating: It’s been well documented that the availability of resources is inversely correlated to birthrates. We’ve had as much dropoff since the phone as we did since the industrial revolution. You’re calling two different rates of drop the same because they’re both drops; that’s not how math works.

No, not really. A) Zionism predates the Nazi party by quite a bit, and B) it’s pretty well documented that a large amount of European countries supported the establishment of Israel so that they could get rid of their Jewish populations, including England who controlled Palestine. The Nazis did not have a monopoly on antisemitism in Europe, I promise you that.
