What these approaches share is a common epistemology: synthesis as a programmatic act, governed by explicit parameters that encode human knowledge about the physics of sound production, the structure of musical instruments, or the perceptual properties of timbre. Control is legible, but the space of sounds reachable through parameter manipulation is ultimately bounded by the model's expressivity.<br /><div class="field field-type-text field-field-intended-audience"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Open to the Public </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/alejandro-koretzky-neural-audio-resynthesis-towards-new-paradigm-in-audio-editing-and-creativ" target="_blank">read more</a></p>Thu, 21 May 2026 21:29:43 +0000soohyun7086 at https://ccrma.stanford.eduAquileo | 2026: Saturday Night SLOrk!https://ccrma.stanford.edu/events/2026-saturday-night-slork <div class="field field-type-date field-field-event-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Date:&nbsp;</div> <span class="date-display-single">Sat, 06/06/2026 - <span class="date-display-start">7:30pm</span><span class="date-display-separator"> - </span><span class="date-display-end">9:00pm</span></span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-location"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Location:&nbsp;</div> Bing Concert Hall </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-event-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Event Type:&nbsp;</div> Concert </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="200" height="133" alt="" src="https://ccrma.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/user/matt/slork-bing-2023b.jpg?1778349657" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>The orchestra is plugged in, sound checked, and code debugged (mostly). How do we make a concert hall sound special? <br /> <br /> I'm really happy that Scott Pfeiffer, an architectural acoustician, will be describing and demoing the characteristics of a concert hall that makes it sound great. What can an acoustic architect do to make all the participants in a concert happy? How do the shapes, materials and audiences combine to leave us smiling about the music, or confused about why we didn't hear the flute? Can we understand the vocalists? ATMOS is a 3D sound representation and playback system that allows us to describe the sound once, and then play it back with different kinds of playback systems, from headphones, to any number of speakers. Theaters and concert halls can afford to put speakers in the right spots, and to tune the experience.
