René Swarttouw (b. 1964 in The Hague, The Netherlands) is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics of the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Swarttouw is mainly a teacher of mathematics and has published a few papers on special functions and orthogonal polynomials. He is coauthor of the book Hypergeometric Orthogonal Polynomials and Their q-Analogues) Hypergeometric Orthogonal Polynomials and Their q-Analogues.

Swarttouw is coauthor of the following DLMF Chapter

Swarttouw served as a Validator for the original release and publication in May 2010 of the NIST Digital Library of Mathematical Functions and the NIST Handbook of Mathematical Functions.
