Bravest Neighbor update! I have almost shipped all of June pre-orders and I’m into July. It’s a lot and I’m blessed to be stressed about getting them to you. It’s bandcamp Friday so if you haven’t order yet and are a bandcamp collector consider treating yourself to a copy. Everyone who ordered the album off yofishboy.com still gets a bandcamp download code in the mail. As always thank you so much for your support and patience. It’s just me and my family packing these up with weird items from my house, dropping them in a wagon and walking them to the post office, truly an independent operation. Happy to do it. I appreciate you. Much love, Eric
The new album by Fishboy: Bravest Neighbor is here! For my eighth album, I tell the story of 11 neighbors living in a cul-de-sac who collectively share a journal through a little library. Writing about which neighbor they think is the most brave, each character has a song in which they are the narrator, and a song in which they are the subject. It’s intentionally designed as a puzzle for you to compare the different definitions of courage. I think almost every line is a reference to something somewhere else in the album, so re-listener is rewarded. I hope that you walk away feeling a little bit more brave each time.
I wrote this in 2022 through 2024, taking walks in my city, thinking about what, if anything, I could contribute with my art to the small and larger world around me. What could I make that would help me become a stronger, more courageous person (TBD, I suppose).
In 2025, Eric San, aka Kid Koala, invited me to Montreal to help expand on my home recordings. I flew with a drive full of songs and left a week later with a near-complete album full of weird, unique sounds and more confident performances. Eric was not only invaluable as an engineer but as a fellow storyteller and (somehow) supreme Fishboy fan. Every time I would second-guess myself, he had my back and reassured me or pointed me in the right direction. The stories became clearer, the performances became more vulnerable, and the sounds more unique.
I brought it home and with a little help from Mark Glick, Bret Crow and Sam Escalante, I figured out the rest of the puzzle.
I dropped the mix into the lap of the incredible Matt Pence, who added a few drums along the way. He treated it like his own and backed up my weird vision at every turn.
January of 2026, Matthew Barnhart mastered the album and indulged my odd Prince Master side quest that blew up in my own face in the best way possible.
The album is meant to be a first step in a larger project. A full graphic novel of adapted lyrics is coming later this year, with a larger live show adaptation.
Thank you for the continual support of my art and ideas. Much love, - Eric.

NEW SONG! Damon (Never Fall in Love) (As Told by Deirdre) is the last single before the album Bravest Neighbor is released on July 24th.
It’s a rare Fishboy song about romantic love in which our title character is observed throughout his life swearing off the stuff. It’s told from the perspective of Deirdre, who you’ve already half way met. Damon is her nomination for the bravest neighbor in the cul de sac for how he is able to eventually bounce back.
This track was demoed out in Texas and then expanded upon in Montreal with Kid Koala who cut my drums to vinyl and scratched them back it. I used his basement timpani here and there and a sample of my voice into a casio for the ending bit.
mixed by Matt Pence and Mastered by Matthew Barnhart
The video is me in my sunflower garden with some animated images from the forthcoming graphic novel adaptation of the album. Carleen taped together the excellent bunny balloon
I hope this song gives you a little bit of courage to never fall in love!

NEW FISHBOY SONG + MUSIC VIDEO: DIANA’S JACKET (AS TOLD BY DANNY DACHAMP)
A song about finding courage through clothing and the help of your neighbors, that’s been decades in the making.
feat. Bret Crow on Bass, Matt Pence on Drums (w/ recording help from Nathan Walt) Sam Esclante on Trumpet
Mixed by Matt Pence, Mastered by Matthew Barnhart
Music video Directed by Dylan Oreily, Edited by Me, with help from Carlos Marquez and Henry Bair and the Denton Flow Arts Community.
with cameos from E.R.I.C and IMVNMNT played by Hal,
the story strays a bit from the album song which is mostly set in a lonely dark house, but I suppose that’s typical of Fishboy videos. Lots more to unpack here.
