Update: Spain is to impose new border controls for flights and ships from Italy as the two countries' row over the influx of migrants into Ceuta intensifies.

Sky News reports that the Spanish government has confirmed that passport, nationality and visa checks would be conducted for Italian passengers and visitors from other countries arriving from Italy from midnight ​on Saturday ‌until 7 September.

The Spanish government called Italy's decision to suspend Schengen travel agreements (following the Spanish enclave's un-fettered invasion by over 70,000 military-aged male Moroccans), "unjust, contrary ‌to EU interests and discriminatory" and with a full straight face the socialist leadership added that the decision has been taken "amid the persistent irregular migratory pressure" from Italy.

Claire's Observations:  I didn't know that there was a European competition for a "Depth of Stupidity in Immigration Policy",  with Spain "straining at the tethers" to become Number One  in this contest, but ..... there you go!!!

And I will tell you honestly; close to the last place on earth I would want to be (if we had the wherewithal to be any place else other than where we are) would be the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, Africa on the 15th of this month.  There's been a huge misinformation net campaign, selling that date as "the last possible date for any kind of migration from Africa". 

Oh, and Throck, my AI, mentions the number of police stationed at Ceuta's Police Station:  a staff of  precisely 3 people.

The USS Nimitz Disposal Bill Starts at $562 Million and Has No Final Price – USS Nimitz is scheduled to leave active service in March 2027, yet the official retirement plan still accounts for 600 sailors assigned to the ship in fiscal 2030. The Navy has not announced when the last section will be cut apart. Its fiscal 2027 budget assigns $562 million to inactivation, the first funded phase of a much longer disposal project.

Nimitz arrived at Naval Station Norfolk on July 9, 2026, for its final homeport period. The 1,092-foot carrier displaces about 97,000 tons at full load and uses two nuclear reactors to drive four shafts. The Navy plans to use the ship for aviation training before transferring it to Newport News Shipbuilding for defueling and inactivation.

The children of a quiet Oxfordshire village have been forced to put pen to paper and plead with the Prime Minister himself. Their message is simple and heartbreaking: leave our home alone.

Piddington is a tiny English settlement of roughly 350 people - around 250 adults and just 46 children. The Home Office and Labour government under Andy Burnham intend to place 1,250 single adult male asylum seekers on a former Ministry of Defence site that borders the village, runs along the back of homes, and sits directly against the parish playing field and children's park.

If the plan proceeds, the number of young men dumped on their doorstep will dwarf the entire local population.

Residents previously held a symbolic independence vote after the government announced the scheme with zero meaningful consultation. Weeks later the silence from Downing Street continues, so the children themselves have now spoken.

Seven-year-old Rex Perkin wrote: "Dear Andy, We like our village because I and my family walk down to my sister's grave to see her. I worry I won't be able to do that anymore. My family has lived here for over 100 years. I love the playing field in Piddington because I go there every week. Thanks Andy."

Eleven-year-old Tilly West pleaded: "Please, please, please! This is for the 300-400 people in the village as well as dogs who won't be able to go sniffing in the bushes as much."

Nine-year-old Orla West was direct: "I do not like this idea because we love our park. We can walk our dogs. We love Piddington."

Claire's Observations:  One thing you notice very clearly, about where British governmental officials put large numbers of military age migrant men;  it is never close to where they, or their families, live.

That is because British MPs understand precisely why such mass migrant relocation is a terrible idea, fraught with intense danger for locals who live nearby because of vast differences in cultural norms, so figure they should settle these men as far away from THEIR homes.... as is humanly possible.

That makes communities like Piddington "sacrificial lambs" to a skewed, potentially"colonial guilt-induced" immigration policy, gone horribly wrong.

Iran and Oman are reportedly finalizing a deal to control the Strait of Hormuz, charging ships fees for passage, and potentially blocking ships from “hostile countries.” Trump resumed bombing in early July to prevent Iran from doing just that, and President Donald Trump has flitted between claiming the United States will control Hormuz and charge tolls, pretending the strait is already open and threatening to “hit very hard” if Iran doesn’t fully open it soon. 

Yet Trump and other top U.S. officials, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, are touting the Iran-Oman talks as diplomatic progress, indicating they’re going to accept a deal on Iran’s terms.

The Trump administration is planning to hire private investigators to track down deported immigrants in their home countries, verify where they live, and deliver notices seeking payment of U.S. immigration fines, according to Wired.

The proposed program, budgeted at up to $9 million over two years, would cover countries including Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Rather than collecting money directly, contractors would be paid to confirm a person's location using evidence such as photographs of their residence, public records, utility bills, employment information, or other documentation accepted by the government. They would also hand-deliver notices listing any outstanding penalties.

Wired writes that the initiative comes as DHS says it has assessed more than $84 billion in civil immigration fines, including "failure-to-depart" penalties that can accumulate to hundreds of thousands—or even millions—of dollars. Although the administration has encouraged migrants to self-deport by promising to forgive many of these fines, legal advocates argue the new overseas tracking effort undercuts that message because some penalties can still remain.

Claire's Observations:  (Sigh)  OK, what troglodyte from another planet,  via some interplanetary DEI program buried deep in the bowels of the Federal budget, was hired to do the cost/benefit study on this? 

 I want to see the numbers, and just how they got "crunched", to come to the conclusion that this was "a good idea."

And forgive me, but how are these fines supposed to be collected, and by whom?!?  That is never really made clear.

What happens when monies are collected in local currencies, if they can be collected, and then converted to US dollars?!?  Here is what one US dollar is worth, in the currencies of the above referenced countries:  ðŸ‡²ðŸ‡½ Mexico: 17.14 pesos 🇬🇹 Guatemala: 7.7–7.8 quetzales:  ðŸ‡­ðŸ‡³ Honduras: 26.8 lempiras. 

So someone would almost have to be a zillionaire, by local standards, in order to pay these fees. And if they were zillionaires by local standards, why in heaven's name,  would they have needed to come into the US illegally ?

What happens when the individuals being pursued, cannot possibly pay these fees because they are unable to find work, even if they are looking diligently to become employed?!? 

Will local municipalities throw them in jail for non-payment of a foreign governmental fine, where it will be impossible for them to work, except as forced labour on governmental projects?   I mean, what are the odds?!? 

I'll give you a very succinct, three word description of those odds; next to zero.

Thoughts and words fail me here; isn't it enough that these people are living in their countries of origin, and not a burden on US state/federal budgets regarding housing; education; and medical care?!?

Washington all but declared that the Iran-U.S. MoU was a dead cat. Not in a coma: it had gone to meet its maker.

Yet now we may be witnessing the Mother of All Dead Cat Bounces – as the organizing framework of Iran’s post-war foreign policy.

Tehran for all practical purposes is now presenting what was also previously known as the Islamabad Memorandum as the foundation of its future external relations – and demanding that Washington comply with the MoU commitments it signed via POTUS.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi will be in Islamabad this Friday – following an open invitation by Pakistani FM Ishaq Dar. There’s mounting evidence pointing to Pakistan as the renewed central guarantor, military channel and strategic bridge connecting Tehran and Washington, as well as the GCC.

Contradictions, of course, abound. Even as Tehran publicly identifies Pakistan as the mediator, and Islamabad also seems to be coordinating at the highest level with perpetually hedging Saudi Arabia, Trump this past Monday preferred to – publicly – credit Saudi Arabia, Qatar and even the UAE, but not Pakistan.

Let’s delve into the fog. The MoU dead cat survived in a raft under the mercy of a wild geopolitical sea and the wrath of the Gods just to be reborn as Iran’s governing diplomatic doctrine.

Although treated as a dead cat also by Tehran, President Masoud Pezeshkian has now publicly described commitment to the MoU as the product of the collective judgment of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).

He also stated that the MoU should become a cornerstone of Iran’s future foreign relations and called for the Trump administration to be compelled to honor what it signed in Versailles.

So the comatose cat indeed seems to have nine lives: it ceased to be a temporary ceasefire mechanism just to be reborn as a long-term strategic framework.

Claire's Observations: One question remains, however; will Israel, which achieved neither regime change here or the destruction of Iran's nuclear program, allow this agreement to stand?!?  

Netanyahu is standing for re-election as Prime Minister in late  October; one has to wonder what Israeli voters are going to believe they have "received" in voting Netanyahu back into office the last time, remains to be seen. 

 I would like to hope that he and his cabal, get voted out of office in such a way, that they can never come back into power.

It was reported this week that the UK's public sector debt had topped £3 trillion for the first time as the Government borrowed billions more to pay for welfare spending and higher interest payments.

But campaign group the Taxpayers' Alliance (TPA) has revealed this figure did not include hidden liabilities, such as unfunded state and public sector pension commitments, PFI contracts and nuclear clean-up costs, which it estimates were worth an extra £8.6 trillion.

As a result, the group said the true size of the national debt was in fact £11.7 trillion, equivalent to £168,184 for every person in the UK.

Analysis by the TPA calculated that even if £1 million was paid off every hour it would still take 1,334 years to clear the balance.
