In the Beginning was our final concert of the season!

Our final concert of this season was a celebration of American choral music, and gained
prolonged and enthusiastic applause from our audience at St George’s Church, Stockport.
As well as the fiendishly difficult In the Beginning by Aaron Copland, we sang Frostiana, the
lovely suite of settings of Robert Frost’s poems by Randall Thompson, and anthems by
William Billings, one of the early American itinerant choirmasters. Mezzo soprano Joyce
Tindsley entertained us with songs by Copland and Jerome Kern, and Tim Kennedy
accompanied us on the piano with some beautiful expressive playing. The concert finished
with Rutter’s folksong suite, A Sprig of Thyme, which gave all the sections of the choir the
opportunity to display their vocal talents. A wonderful end to a fabulous season!
