The Psychological Seduction of Christianity

Exposing psychoheresy and its increasing stranglehold on the Church

Of all the books and articles we have published on a variety of subjects and of importance to the Church, the PsychoHeresy theme is the most important as it exists in and affects the various levels and facets of the Church.

We coined the term psychoheresy because it is a psychological heresy. It is a heresy because it is a departure from the fundamental truth of the Gospel. The departure is the use of unproven and unscientific psychological opinions of men instead of having absolute confidence in the biblical truth of God. Psychoheresy is a denial of the sufficiency of Scripture for the issues of life now treated with psychological counseling, which utilizes the very wisdom of man about which God has warned His people (1 Cor. 2). Psychoheresy is also the intrusion of such theories into the preaching and practice of Christianity, especially when they contradict or compromise biblical Christianity in terms of the nature of man, how he is to live, and how he changes. The subtitle of PsychoHeresy:The Psychological Seduction of Christianity reveals the seductive nature of this type of psychology. We document that psychotherapy has already deceived and continues to deceive many professing Christians. PsychoHeresy does not include all divisions of the American Psychological Association.

A Word of Caution for Our Work in Process

From our first book, The Psychological Way / The Spiritual Way (1979) to our 27th book, Against Psychotherapy: For the Bible (2024), we have changed our position about counseling and biblical soul care and how biblical soul care is to be conducted.

However, even though we had shifted focus from psychological counseling to biblical soul care, this has been a process. Thus, our early books on counseling included the conversational format from psychotherapy as we used the Bible for the solutions to encourage spiritual growth. Therefore, as you read these books you will see that the early ones included the possibility of sinful speaking as one person would describe another person or a situation that involved other people. Psychology is rife with this sinful speaking as counselors seek reasons for behavior in one’s parents or others.

The process has led us away from personal counseling which opens the door to sinful speaking to what we positively encourage in Against Psychotherapy / For the Bible. We recommend soul care that emphasizes the preaching and teaching of God’s Word with an emphasis on evangelism and a consistent daily walk on the part of each believer. In other words, we are returning to the old paths where psychotherapy did not exist.
