Welcome to the

Foundation of Lady Katherine Leveson

An Introduction to the Foundation of Lady Katherine Leveson

The Foundation of Lady Katherine Leveson was established in the late 17th century following the gift of two legacies bequeathed under the will of Lady Katherine Leveson who had inherited land and farms at Temple Balsall from her grandfather, Robert Dudley, a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I. This land included the Old Hall and the Knights Templar Church, re-developed as St Mary’s Church in the 18th century with all still in regular use today.

In 2024 the Foundation celebrated its 350th anniversary with two of its Governors descended from the original trustees in 1694 in attendance, together with the Bishop of Birmingham and the choir of the Lady Katherine Leveson Primary School, established by her, singing wonderfully in her memory.

All are welcome at Temple Balsall, whether you wish to worship in our church, hold your weddings and christenings here, hire our meeting rooms for parties or conferences in the Old Hall, or attend our many social events.

Please see below our up and coming activities. For those run by the Friends of Temple Balsall and the WI kindly refer to ‘Our Temple Balsall Community’ pages.

Or, you are just welcome to walk through our beautiful gardens and grounds on the tour described in the Nature section in ‘Our Temple Balsall Community’ page.
