New Frontier World Building Residency

K-TOWN ’92, an interactive online documentary disrupts mainstream narratives of the 1992 Los Angeles riots/uprising/civil unrest while uplifting perspectives that have been overlooked. As a companion piece to K-Town'92, I directed a short documentary film, K-TOWN ’92 Reporters, (15 min.) that explores the experiences of several journalists of color during the 1992 civil unrest. The short premiered exclusively on Facebook Live on April 29th, 2017, presented WORLD Channel who will broadcast the film nationally during the month May (dates and times TBD). "Radical Brownies" short on The Guardian

I am on executive producer on a documentary about the Radical Monarchs, an alternate girl scout group based in Oakland, CA for young girls of color. We collaborated with The Guardian Documentaries to create this short film on them. Feature film still in progress!

I gave the opening keynote speech at the International Documentary Association's Getting Real 2016 conference. Along with my colleagues Leo Chiang, Renee Tajima-Pena and Chi-hui Yang, I organized a gathering of Asian American filmmakers, which has since branched into an online network. GRACE LEE is an independent filmmaker who most recently directed and produced FOREVER WE ARE YOUNG, a feature documentary about ARMY the global fandom of K-Pop superstars BTS. She also directed and produced two episodes of the Peabody Award-winning ASIAN AMERICANS series as well as AND SHE COULD BE NEXT, POVÃ¢â¬â¢s first broadcast series about women of color transforming politics and civic engagement, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Other credits include the Peabody-winning AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY: THE EVOLUTION OF GRACE LEE BOGGS, THE GRACE LEE PROJECT MAKERS: WOMEN IN POLITICS, OFF THE MENU: ASIAN AMERICA and K-TOWNÃ¢â¬â¢92, an interactive online project about the 1992 Los Angeles civil unrest.

Other credits include the Emmy-nominated MAKERS: WOMEN IN POLITICS and OFF THE MENU: ASIAN AMERICA, both for PBS; JANEANE FROM DES MOINES, set during the 2012 presidential campaign, which premiered at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival as well as AMERICAN ZOMBIE, a personal horror film, which premiered at Slamdance and SXSW. She was also host and executive producer of a podcast investigating systemic inequities at PBS called VIEWERS LIKE US.

Grace is co-founder of the Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc), a Directors Guild of America member, on the board of the International Documentary Association as well as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
