Our Values, Your Growth

Spirituality

Discover purpose by engaging in faith and reflection

  • Explores Jesuit toolkit for meaningful contemplation and discernment in daily life
  • Contributes to the richness of community through shared faith and deep attention to the common good

We engage with diverse spiritual perspectives to build a deeper understanding of faith and justice. Through reflection and dialogue, we cultivate lives rooted in purpose and service.

Simple Living

Live intentionally, prioritizing sustainability and relationships

  • Nurtures gratitude and mindfulness in everyday choices
  • Inspires responsible stewardship of resources

By embracing simplicity, we create space for gratitude, connection, and intentionality. Prioritizing relationships, we learn to live with purpose and sustainability.

Community

Build meaningful connections

  • Fosters deep, intentional relationships across differences
  • Encourages collaboration in addressing injustice

We cultivate intentional communities that challenge and inspire. Through active listening and mutual respect, we foster spaces where all voices are heard and valued.

Social Justice

Serve, advocate, and create lasting change

  • Hands-on learning and insights of systemic injustice through direct service
  • Equips individuals with tools for critical reflection, activism, and global perspective of inequity

Rooted in justice, we work to dismantle barriers to equity. Guided by discernment and reflection, we take action to build a more compassionate and just world.

Don’t take it from us! Over 12,500 people have volunteered with JVC over the years and each of them has their own story. Our four values remain the same, but the impact of the experience is as unique as the members of our community. Hear from a few of our volunteers, in their own words.

JVC partners with community groups on the front lines of social justice

Our agency partners are the experts on the needs of the communities that they serve. Jesuit Volunteers step into direct service roles with these organizations and add critical capacity to their work for justice. Many of our partners have hosted JVs for decades and serve as trusted, local voices with shared values.

70 Years of JVC Impact

For nearly 70 years, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps has been a leading institution in the service landscape. We are one of the oldest and largest full-time volunteer programs in the world, with a legacy of over 12,500 alumni who have continued to live out the values and mission of JVC well beyond their volunteer experience.

Dive into JVC's History!

We're sure you have some questions!

  • Who can serve with JVC?

JVC invites young changemakers (21-25) with a passion for social justice. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds—regardless of culture, gender, or economic status. Volunteers must be U.S. permanent residents, unmarried with no dependents, and have a college degree or relevant work experience.

  • Where do volunteers serve?

Jesuit Volunteers serve in 19 cities across the U.S., working alongside over 100 partner agencies including nonprofits, schools, and grassroots organizations.

  • I’m interested, but not sure if JVC is the right fit for me.

Committing to a year of service is a counter-cultural choice and we know that raises a lot of questions! Will my spiritual background feel at home with this community? How will this help me take the next steps in my career? What if I’m still figuring out how I want to live into these beliefs?

We promise you’re not the first to have these questions and we’re here to find some of those answers together. Click here to read more FAQs, including some of the most frequent hesitations we encounter.

  • Volunteering sounds great, but what is a Jesuit?

The “J” in JVC references the Society of Jesus, an order of Catholic priests and brothers more commonly known as Jesuits, who embrace the challenge of living as “contemplatives in action.” Our formation program draws inspiration and direction from the Jesuit order as we pursue balance between spiritual reflection and the work for justice.

LIVE: JV Journey

DisOrientation Retreat 2026

After eleven months of shared service, the 2025–2026 Jesuit Volunteers recently wrapped up their final retreat of the year, DisOrientation. This retreat acts as dedicated time for the JVs to pause and process their year of service, and the transition that lies ahead. It is an opportunity to reflect on personal and professional growth, while celebrating shared accomplishments, finding closure, and discerning next steps as they soon become Former JVs. Grounded in the experience of the past year, DisOrientation invites volunteers to honor their journey. From all of JVC staff… thank you to our Jesuit Volunteers for their deep commitment to a more just and hopeful world!

My onsite experiences have made me think about who I am in the world and who I could be. Thanks to JVC, I’m making connections (with people, places, ideas, and goals) that I never could have imagined. I highly recommend the program.
