RMS Caronia II Timeline Synopsis

Cunard's RMS Caronia (II) was a world-famous British cruise ship, built in 1948 at John Brown's shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland for the Cunard White Star line. She was designed to meet the dual purpose rôles of either regular transatlantic crossings or extended cruising all around the World. The Caronia Timeline Web site records where in the World the RMS Caronia was on any particular day during her illustrious 20 year career with Cunard.

The amazing history of this luxurious ship, the post-war jewel of the British Merchant Navy, is supported by an eclectic mix of fascinating first-hand stories that bring to life many of the traditions that went with living and working aboard a luxury ocean liner of the 1950s and 1960s.

This extensive maritime history research is fully supported by scans of period documentation, including original Cunard and travel-agent brochures, itineraries, maps, menus, and daily programmes, along with many other interesting and rare ephemeral items.

The RMS Caronia, often misspelt as “Coronia” was known by her crew as the “Green Goddess” and Worldwide as the “Millionnaire's Yacht.” Her post Cunard ownership, when she was renamed as T.S.S. Caribia, is also recorded here.
