I can't agree with this review. I think this movie, while deeply flawed, bucked the trend by trying something daringly new. It opened a whole other window into the Freddy-verse. Ok - there's some pointless, contradictory rubbish - Freddy jumping through a glass door and disappearing, the stupid dogs, the pool party... But there are scenes in this movie as good as ANYthing in the others - the bus dream scene is magnificent, the entire sequence leading up to "You've got the body...", the transformation scene, THAT score, Freddy's make-up and voice. You can't seriously tell me Parts 5 and 6 are better? Those movies are true 80's embarrassments. This stayed dark, was violent as hell, and tried something totally left-of-field, even if it didn't completely work. The performances are great, the 'sub-text' gives one lots to think about. 5 and 6 are cartoonish, unscary, total rubbish that ruined Freddy forever. The power glove?? The Super-Freddy?? Freddy riding a broom-stick?? Ugh. So SO bad.

Rewatching it now. This was a 3 hour film that left me wanting more when it was over. That's tough to do. I'm not sure I'd even call it my favorite SCORCESE, film, let alone all-time favorite, but it's definitely in my top twenty and maybe higher. It is really a film that calls for full attention in a darkened theater, because it's so much larger than life. I've never understood the disdain some have for it.

P.S. the best DD Lewis performance until he became (and I mean BECAME) Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.

There's a few things that kind of suck about 49th Parallel. The Nazis U-Boat is damaged, they need to hide out... where to go, where to go. I know - Hudson Bay, it's only what 2,000 miles from the St. Lawrence River? Yes we could go back to France in about the same distance, but Hudson Bay has some of the best polar bear watching in the world! We may never get a chance to travel to the Arctic again! To hell with Admiral Doenitz, we're off to Hudson Bay boys.

And Leslie Howard. The Archers idea of a Canadian gentleman out wilderness camping. With his Matisse and Picasso paintings? Oh yes, just the thing to lug over mountains and rivers, I mean what gentleman wouldn't need his original paintings to hang in his tent?

And the Nazis devilishly clever plan to escape when the end up in Winnipeg... they'll WALK to Vancouver. I mean you can easily walk from one side of England to the other, so lets have them simply walk across Western Canada. Tally ho.

You wouldn't know a good film if it walked up and bit you in the ass you pretentious prick. Both db13 and db13u, were astonishing and original. If you think either were reminiscent of escape from new york you clearly havent seen the movie, the only common factor being a rush to escape said area of which escape from new york was not the first movie of its kind, nor the first with a massive borough. You wanna discredit a movie take a look at "brick mansions" THAT is a movie worthly of blatant discreditation, being that its summarily carbon copy of db13, with few and suttle differences in plot and A list actors in place whilst keeping the only property intact that mattered,david belle, just so one of the original partners on the project could summarily give his ex partner of which he had many disputes on the project a big fuck you. Pretentious twat.

Im anxiously waiting for this film to finish downloading. I'm not sure what this guy is talking about, from what I remember this is the best Robin Hood movie ever made. And if you think the newer snooze-fest starring Russel Crowe is better you are no longer my friend. Trying to sit through that crapfest was the very reason I went searching for Prince of Thieves. The cast, in my opinion, is great all the way around. I'm not saying this is a cinematic masterpiece, but as far as Robin Hood goes, this is about as good as it gets.

While I love the tits bouncing, I prefer slightly more firm breasts that bounce slightly slower due to more weight and firmness. That said, fuck that scene. It's a time filled like that atrocious Smashing Pumpkins 1979 song being thrown in. Neither track fits the movie and it's just lame. At least Clerks has edge with the music it shows and it all fits. Those two songs are overplayed and don't fit the movie. Even Jay singing to Goodbye Horses is a time filler, but it's funny in the sense that Jay looks like Buffalo Bill enough. Seeing a fat girl smile and wave while hearing Corgan sing? Only lame and annoying. Clerks 2 is a good film due to the writing. And RD being a hottie.

I liked the movie too, mostly, though I did squirm at Ray kissing Susie's ghost channeled through the dark-haired girl. I was surprised at Ebert's review when I looked it up - and I think your comments are fair-minded. I actually missed hearing about the film when it came out, and only got it from Netflix when I saw a preview on another older disk and saw it had Saoirse Ronan in it. Overall, I thought it was a weird film and was glad to have seen it, and I'll leave nitpicking to others.
