Some Prompts I Tried

A little story using them all 🙂

As a prize winning jumper, the grasshopper decided to try something different. He wanted to learn scuba diving. It didn’t work out well. His helmet fell off, his wings got waterlogged, and his little legs and jumping legs could barely find anything to push off from. But finally he managed to get to a lily pad and heaved himself up. Only now he came face to face with a giant bullfrog. Not feeling like being the frog’s lunch, he flexed his jumper legs and bounded off into the air. From now on, sports were not his thing to do.

This is an authentic baseball souvenir from Wrigley Field baseball stadium.

A blogging friend (sadly now RIP) sent it to  me a few years ago. It has the name and some scenes printed on it.

I did find some really funny parodies about Golf! Here’s a couple. Couldn’t find much about them, but this first one “The Golf Song”, I read was made by some friends in Australia. The lyrics are on the video.

I chose “Bad Reputation”, by Joan Jett. In the song story she is singing about trying to break into the music business with her band. But all the record companies said no, and that she couldn’t sing. Well, that made her mad, and being the type of personality she has, it wasn’t about to stop her from reaching her goal. So she created her own record company label. Her take charge, problem solving personality was in full effect. Turned out it was the right decision, the listeners loved her songs, and she received many awards. Now the record companies who snubbed her earlier, were all nicey nice now. hahaha She got the last laugh though, for sure! 🙂

I was reading about personality types and this song was mentioned as being for the ISTP type. Here is a little of what it said: here   and     here 

ISTPs are highly independent types who care less about social expectations than they care about having their freedom and autonomy. ISTPs will do what they think is best for them, and most logical and rational in the long run. If that rubs people the wrong way or makes them seem “improper” they’re not nearly as irritated by that as most other types. They live according to an internal set of standards and principles rather than an externally enforced set of social rules.

“Bad Reputation”, by Joan Jett, this single can be found on her 1980 debut album of the same name. It was written by Joan Jett, Ritchie Cordell, Kenny Laguna & Marty Kupersmith, and is on the Blackheart label.

The day I balled up my hands and  bawled, was the day I almost went bald. 

Went to the beauty shop 1, 2, 3

Gonna get pretty, don’t you see

Wasn’t paying attention

Which was my affliction

Hair was cut so short I didn’t want anyone to see me!

😲😲😲

Well, anyway I’ve already told this story a time or two. I was horrified that my long hair, which I’d only wanted the ends trimmed, was now only about an inch left all over my head. I definitely bawled (cried) and went directly to a shop that sold wigs and bought one. I wore it until my own hair finally grew out longer.

I did go back to other beauty shops over the years, but trusted  none of them. I paid attention to every little snip of the scissors. Had a couple of close calls but not as bad as this one was. Eventually I gave up and haven’t been to a shop in years. I trimmed my own. Lesson learned.

# 5 … I’d gladly go to time out in a book store or a library and sit there reading all day long.

# 6. … Who knows where the muse comes from. It just came to me as soon as I learned to put letters together to make words and sentences. Been doing it ever since. I don’t get tired of writing and thinking of things to write. Some make it on here in posts, and lots more don’t. But when the muse strikes, I try to write it down before I forget what it was I was thinking about.

This week I am going back to Victorian slang and asking how you would define these:

1. bricky  … This is another name for a brick mason, a person who constructs bricks onto buildings.

2. chuckaboo … A cute little mixed breed dog.

3. daddles … Candy on a stick, like a caramel lollipop that is shaped flat

4. foozler … A very early experiment with baby bottles, that didn’t work very well.

5. rovolveress … A small hand gun for women

6. whooperups … During prohibition days these were secret hideaway bars serving alcohol drinks

7. escop … A slang word for scalloped potatoes

8. gigglemug … This is what people called someone who was always pulling pranks on others

9. mafficking … On weekends the young people would go driving around the town waving to their friends who were also driving around the town

10. molliser … A type of women’s dress that had lots of fringe sewed on so it shimmied and shook as she was dancing.

1. What everyday thing feels like a tiny luxury to you?

my answers:

1. Having lots of coloring books, pencils, markers, & Crayolas to color them with, and the time to do it. When I was a kid my most frequent secret wish was to go into the variety store and be declared a winner of anything in the store I wanted. I always chose the coloring books and crayons. 🙂

2. This is a hard question as my house and garage is full of things saved for sentimental reasons. I have things left from both sets of grandparents, and my parents, along with my own things from years ago. Choosing one thing is impossible because they all mean something to me. There are photos, cards, knick knacks, letters, kitchen items, art, toys, jewelry, and even old ration books from the war years. I still have my baby quilt and shoes and then my first years schoolwork pages, and scrapbooks from when I was a kid. Of course my diary, which I posted about one year here.

3. I’ve tried lots of hobbies and crafts, and started projects and most were left unfinished. I did see someone mention making pottery, and that is one thing I never did before, but it sounds fun to try maybe. The thing with craft hobbies, is we have fun doing them, but after we do them what do we do with them? I have more than enough ‘stuff’ and don’t need more, and we don’t give gifts anymore either. So I doubt I’d take up a new hobby at all anymore.

These sunflowers are some I grew a few years ago. The middle photo is of a jigsaw puzzle we worked of sunflowers and kittens.

I was looking through my flower photos for a single flower and found this one. I posted this sunflower in 2017, and wrote that it was one I grew myself. Also, it was the very first photo I shared for Cee’s Flower of the Day! 🙂

A compact little vase filled with medium sized sunflowers of bright yellow petals around dark centers and a few green leaves in between. I suppose I saw these at the store one time.

Here is the photo prompt. Then  my story of 6 minutes.

The  day was early morning. Two childeren were having fun and games out in the field

of wildflowers before the sun got too hot to be outside. A flock of sheep looked on.

Let’s eavesdrop

on their conversation, why don’t we.

Sheep # 1 …Look at those kids having fun!

Sheep # 2 … I see them. They are trampling on our favorite food flowers.

Sheep# 1… Yeah, but there’s plenty more. What’s that game the’re playing, I wonder?

Sheep # 2 … They are singing a song… hmmm… let me listen a minute.

A minute passes …

Sheep # 2 … It’s that silly nursery rhyme song, Mary Had a Little Lamb!

Sheep # 1 … Mary better not come steal one of our lambs!

They go back to  munching flowers
