Gatherings

From January 2023, Surrey Muse meets from 1-4pm (PT) every Fourth Saturday of each month except December. Before COVID, we used to meet 5:30-8:30pm every Fourth Friday.

Presenters
Three featured presenters (author, poet, artist/performer) use 20 minutes each. Each presentation is followed by 10 minutes of discussion/questions. (A host cannot reduce/change time allocation). An online profile is posted at Surrey Muse People page for each presenter before the meeting. A Data Projector can be made available if needed. Photographs may be taken and/or videos may be made for our blog and social media pages. Depending on the availability of grants, there is a $100 honorarium each for the three featured presenters.

One emerging artist (writer, poet, musician or visual artist) uses 10 minutes presentation time followed by 5 minutes of discussion with a $50 honorarium, if grants are available.

Refreshments
Refreshments are served in the break. There can be one 10-minute break.

COVID-19 Impact
With the Lockdown in March 2020, Surrey Muse began to present a virtual gathering each month at 5:30-7pm with a recorded program and a LIVE Watch Party on YouTube where it is later added to the Surrey Muse channel. Virtual Gatherings showcased the work of three featured artists (author, poet, artist/performer) using 20 minutes each. There was a $50 honorarium each for the three presenters. An Open Mic Opener presented for 10 minutes ($30 honorarium) to begin the Open Mic session. A Host introduced the four featured guests. Open Mic presenters used 3-5 minutes each. There was also a 5-minute introduction to a new publication by its author/creator titled Just Launched. More on virtual gatherings is at the link below:
Virtual Gatherings

The library hours of operation also changed prompting us to meet at 1-4pm every Fourth Saturday from January 2023 instead of our usual 5:30-8:30pm Fourth Fridays that we had been meeting since 2011.

Program
Surrey Muse Program is put in place once a year: in March for April-November session. Invitations are sent in March. Our invitation lists are based on the feedback and recommendations from our members, public meetings, artists themselves, artists in different cultural communities, Surrey Muse staff, advisers and other volunteers. Program is guided by our mandate.

If you would like to present as a feature or arrange a Book/CD/DVD Signing, contact us with your profile at Recommendations.

To present on the Open Mic, you just have to show up at a gathering and introduce yourself to the Host.
