The Trekcetera Museum Auction was a success!

The Trekcetera Museum Auction by Propworx happened on Sunday, August 18th, 2019, and was a smashing success! Over 200 lots were sold and the overall gross was just about $200,000. Of this, $165,000 was proceeds from the sale of assets from the Trekcetera Museum.

Records Set!

The highlight of the auction was the Doctor's costume from Voyager which hit a record $16,000. With Buyer's Premium, that is $20,000, a record for a Voyager costume. The second highest was the Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal costumes which went for $8,500. The Borg Alcove and the Voyager Phaser tied for third at $6,500. Overall, prices were very strong and the auction did about 35% better than expected.

Since I own Propworx, I decided to take the first $10,000 of commission profits from this sale and use it to help fund the first shoot of Axanar this October. Thank you all for helping here!

Federation Council Member Costume from Star Trek (2009)

There were some great costumes in the JJ Star Trek movies.

A men's Starfleet council member uniform from the 2009 Star Trek movie. Starfleet council members wore their uniforms when Captain Kirk attended a disciplinary hearing for his actions in the Kobayashi Maru simulation. The set includes a jacket marked size 46 and a pair of pants marked size 38, a collar and a belt.

The double-breasted jacket features leather collars and cuffs and sturdy piping at the seams. The pants are made of the same material. The hook-and-loop collars are white and the belts are made of black nylon.

The Doctor Uniform from "Voyager"

The following Doctor's Costume is lot # 43 in the Trekcetera Museum Prop & Costume Auction, and was originally from the It's A Wrap auctions.

A Starfleet uniform jumpsuit worn by Robert Picardo during his portrayal of "The Emergency Medical Holographic Doctor" in various episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. Is black with blue sciences division shoulders that zips up the front and clasps at the top half way up the chest, and features a Velcro patch on the left breast for a Starfleet comm badge' (replica comm badge included) and a matching velcro patch on the left shoulder for the Mobile Emitter (replica included). The waist features form fitting black elastic with sewn in loops for away team gear, the feet end in black elastic stirrups.

The uniform comes complete with a gray long sleeved turtleneck undershirt that zips up the spine and clasps at the top with a strap to keep it taut. The interior Voyager tags are inscribed "Robert Picardo".

The uniform comes with Robert Picardo's boots, personally given to the museum with a letter from Bob himself.

Originally from the It's A Wrap! Star Trek auctions and comes with the original IAW COA. In production used good condition.

The Viceroy Costume from Star Trek Nemesis

The Reman Viceroy costume worn by Ron Perlman in Star Trek: Nemesis.is truly a work of art. The costume is made from shiny iridescent purple material with multiple molded accents and sewn in metal embellishments.

The costume is composed of these separates: a black undershirt to prevent chafing, a set of overalls, a full length cape, and a uniform jacket with shoulder armor. The overalls are purple with multiple padded points and matching material over the shoulders and around the arms, Velcro placements correspond to the cape. The cape is made of of iridescent purple material with painted on patterns, all formed together with metal work, with holed openings for the arms made from olive colored fabric. The uniform jacket matches the overalls, is long sleeved with inside wrist zips, gold colored piping, molded "armor" pieces affixed to the chest, back, and shoulders, and cropped to the upper chest with a center zip that is hidden by a molded "X" embellishment.

The costume also comes with a molded Reman "X" buckle accent to affix to the Velcro placement waist high on the overalls.

The Museum

Trekcetera was the first-ever officially licensed Star Trek museum. But it was more than just Star trek and included items from movies and TV shows, mainly ones that were filmed in Alberta, Canada (where the museum was located in the town of Drumheller) like Brokeback Mountain and Hell on Wheels, and even parts of the original Superman from 1978.

Sadly, the Trekcetera Museum closed this year, but now you can own a piece of the museum. Propworx has been chosen to sell all of the assets of the museum. And so on Sunday, August 18th, 2019, all the props and costumes and posters from the museum will be up for auction on the Liveauctioneers website, which Propworx has used for almost 10 years.

Propworx suing Tiana Armstrong for Fraud, Breach of Contract

Last year Propworx was involved in a series of Star Trek prop sales with prop dealer Tiana Armstong of Hero Prop LLP. Unfortunately, these transactions did not go as anticipated and Propworx is now suing Tiana Armstrong for fraud and breach of contract.

The fraud claim we filed is based the the fact that Tiana claimed she only charges 20% to sell an item, but in fact, she was selling my items for 2-3 what she said she was and pocketing the difference.

As to the breach of contract claim, Tiana asked me to bring a seller to the table to match with her buyer, much like a real estate deal. I brought in Jarrod Hunt, who had worked for me for 8 years before starting his own prop company, to be 50-50 partners with me on my part of the deal. But in the middle of the negotiations, Tiana and her partner went around my back to Jarrod and they agreed to cut me out of the deal, worth hundreds of thousands in fees. So I am suing her and her company for breach of contract.

So that is the high level of the lawsuit. Feel free to contact me if you want more information.

JJ Trek at Auction!

The Prop Store is having an auction of props & costumes from the first two JJ Trek movies. The auction is online and bidding starts at 2:00 EST today (Saturday).

What is ironic is that I first pitched this auction to CBS in 2013, and Propworx, my auction company, would have been doing this auction if I didn't go and make such a good fan film that it got CBS to sue us! But honestly, buying and selling stuff can't compare to the satisfaction of making a film that many Star Trek fans think is canon! (And many think is better than Discovery!)

So I will be bidding a bit today, and while most items will go too high for the average fan, there may be a few bargains. I especially look for costumes that might be good for background characters in our Starfleet Headquarters scene.

I am very pleased to announce my first endeavor as an author with the release of this 218 page, full-color interior, softcover volume entitled "To Boldly Go - Rare Photos from the TOS Soundstage: Season One", which is now available for purchase!

This edition contains approximately 330 rare, behind-the-scenes images - the majority in full and vivid color on large 8.5" by 11" pages - from the making of the first season and pilot episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series. All of the photographs shown in this book come from my personal collection; which I began as a youth in the early 1970's with the purchase of about 700 to 800 film clips from Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek memorabilia company called Lincoln Enterprises, and which I have continuously grown over the last forty years. It now consists of thousands of rare NBC publicity shots, candid still photos/negatives taken on the TOS sets, and rare Lincoln clips. For those that are not familiar with the exact nature of the film cells sold to fans by Gene Roddenberry's company, they were the unused pieces of printed footage, called the "trims" and "outtakes", that were left over after the Desilu Studios film editors assembled the desirable footage into the finished master versions of the Star Trek episodes. So the most desirable versions of these little pieces of 35 mm half-frame film featured some truly spectacular behind-the-scenes imagery, such as the clapperboard technician - typically Bill McGovern - holding a slate in front of the actors about to film a scene; or other rare casting or special effects related footage, or sometimes imagery with members of the behind-the-camera production crew actually visible in the frame. In January, 2014 - as many photos from my collection were published in black-and-white format in the first volume of the Saturn-award winning book series "These Are The Voyages - TOS" by Marc Cushman - I wrote the following article for this website, which still provides a good overview and introduction to my rare Star Trek image collection: http://www.startrekpropauthority.com/2014/01/special-report-behind-scenes-look-at.html

"To Boldly Go" presents not only many of the most exciting images from the Cushman TOS Season One book - most of which are now seen in color - but also a wealth of additional rare photos not included in the "These Are The Voyages" series.

I have personally digitally restored all of the rare photos that appear in this edition, and I paid special attention to the goal of recreating the bold and vivid colors that were present in the original broadcasts of the episodes. Since early 2013, I estimate that I've devoted between 2,000 and 3,000 hours to this activity. It was first necessary to perform what was sometimes extensive repair work on many of the images that appeared in the three "These Are The Voyages" books; to correct defects such as scratches and/or blemishes on the film scan - which I performed first on the color versions of the imagery, and also completed a preliminary color correction effort to remove the heavy magenta tinting affecting many of these photos before creating and then fine-tuning the black and white versions. And throughout 2015 into the start of this year, I completed my final color correction efforts on all of the first season imagery - which typically involved selecting tiny portions of geometry within the individual photos and adjusting the colors one group of similar geometry at a time - such as all the actors skin, or all of the red velour Starfleet tunics, or just the red/orange railing in Bridge photos, etc. On a few occasions, the knowledge gained by the appearance of screen used TOS memorabilia at auction has enabled me to enhance the vintage imagery with unquestionably real world, historically accurate colors. For example, modern day photos from the recent 2013 sale by Julien's Auctions in Los Angeles of Captain Kirk's Laser Rifle from the second pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before" were very useful to my efforts to colorize an early B&W NBC publicity shot featuring Sally Kellerman and William Shatner, who posed with the laser rifle. Here is what the original publicity photo looked like prior to colorization ... (Note: clicking on any picture below will display an enlarged version).

Finally, presented below is the colorized version as it appears in the pages of "To Boldly Go" ...

Another example can be drawn from the 2010 sale by the California auction house Profiles In History of the famous Balok alien puppet head seen in the episode "The Corbomite Maneuver". The consignor of the Balok puppet was very gracious in providing me with a number of close up photos of the puppet head for display on this website in the month and a half preceding the auction; and those pictures were particularly useful to me in clarifying the paint colors employed in detailing the puppets eye/Iris, and the periorbital skin (the region surrounding the eyelids) on the puppet when I set about to colorize a rare B&W candid shot of William Shatner on set with Balok. Here is how the original image appeared ...

I believe that my photo restoration efforts have also been aided by the fact that, as a longtime Star Trek prop and costume collector, I have been quite fortunate over the years to have actually owned and/or handled dozens of screen used items from The Original Series, and so am familiar with their correct colors, and still possess items that have and will continue to serve as excellent color references. Although, it is certainly true that the appearance of some memorabilia, in particular the gold velour 1st and 2nd season command fabric as well as the olive-green nylon 3rd season command fabric used in the Starfleet tunics, could at times vary drastically under stage lighting or in flash photography, and thus not really closely resemble their natural, in-person and off-screen colors. Still, it is my belief that the readers of this book will truly be able to enjoy some of the finest, historically accurate rare Star Trek photo restorations ever produced -- which are in some cases quite unique with regard to what has been seen in the past as I have especially created - for the first time ever to my knowledge - a number of brand new colorized versions of certain B&W candid and publicity shots just for inclusion in this volume.

It should also be noted that the rare pictures in this collection are all accompanied by usually brief but, on occasion, quite extensive descriptions or anedotes about the filming of the related scene or episode. Which makes this volume, I believe, an entertaining and unique (and hopefully somewhat informative) photographic history of the making of the first season of TOS.

The Smithsonian Enterprise Restoration Video

The Smithsonian released this awesome video of the restoration of the USS Enterprise filming miniature. OK, not so miniature! But a must watch!

This is a short film showing the process of the detail paint work on the restoration of original U.S.S. Enterprise miniature. The work was done between the 11th and the 23rd of April 2016 at the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy facility. The model is now on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

Kevin Hanson Prop Fraud Revisited.

Note: I originally posted this on March 30, 2014. It need to be reposted, because Kevin Hanson continues to defraud people.

This is about the FRAUD committed by Kevin Hanson, who runs The Trek Prop Zone and Michael Moore of HMS. Together they have committed fraud and passed off fake props as real ones. And, when confronted with proof, have avoided owning up to it, proving their intent to defraud.

SUMMARY:

I was sold two replica props as screen used by Kevin Hanson. He got them from Michael Moore at HMS. I have not only Ironclad proof that they are fake, but caught Michael Moore in a lie about where he got them from.

Kevin has refused to refund my money. While I had not made any claims that he intentionally sold me these as fakes, his refusal to refund my money, and his insistence of playing games and defend Mike Moore in spite of the facts has changed my mind.

Most importantly, Michael Moore continues to sell props claiming they are screen used and authenticating props. Now that he has been caught passing off replicas as real, every transaction he is party to is suspicious. This is a huge deal for this hobby and you need to be aware of this.

FACTS:

Kevin sold me two Enterprise pistols, a Phase Pistol and an EM 33. They turned out to be fake (ironclad proof). Kevin bought them from Michael Moore, of HMS props who claimed they were real and he got them from the propmaster on Enterprise. Not only are the items not from ISS, the only maker of these Enterprise props, (the Phase Pistol is an HMS replica), but I spoke to the prop master, Craig Binkley at length and he NEVER gave anything to Mike Moore.

Kevin Hanson has refused to ackownledge evidence that just about everyone who knows Star Trek props agrees is ironclad. Thus I will be taking Kevin to small claims court.

EVIDENCE PHASE PISTOL IS A REPLICA

According to Craig Binkley, the prop master for Enterprise:

ISS was the ONLY vendor for the Phase Pistol and EM33. In fact ISS did 99% of the props.

Craig NEVER gave Mike Moore any props.

This Phase Pistol is a recast clearly and has aspects that closely match the Rod.com kit, (produced by HMS). The tells are numerous and the evidence is undeniable.

EVIDENCE

The most obvious tell is the pour spout (or air vent) on the inside of the Phase Pistol. This was NOT done in the original mold created to produce the screen used props at ISS. However this same pour spout (or air vent) can be seen on the Rod.com kit (produced by HMS). This is a clear tell that the prop in question did not come form the original ISS production molds. The obvious drooping line in the mid section is also something that matches none of the screen used props but does match the Rod.com kit (produced By HMS). ISS (P1) (P2) (P3) (P4), VS Kevin recast (P5) (P6) (P7) (P8), which is identical to Rod.com kit (P30) (P31).

The Phase Pistol is painted the wrong colors (P12) which is identical to Rod.com kit (P30), (P31). These are the colors recommended in the Rod.com Phase Pistol kit instructions (P32). These are NOT the colors that ISS painted the Phase Pistols and which were used on the show. See screen used prop (P20).

The round portion on the bottom of the Phase pistol is painted a different color. This is wrong. On screen used pieces it is the same as the body (P20). This piece being painted the highlight color was also done for the Rod.com kits (produced by HMS). (P30) (P31) and is noted in Rod.com Phase Pistol kit instructions (P32).

HMS of course made the Rod.com kit.

There are other facts showing it is a mere recast:

The Phase Pistol is shorter due to it being recast from an ISS version (P13) (P14).

The Phase Pistol is cast in grey resin. The ISS Phase Pistols were cast in a white resin (P9) (P10).

The nozzle is a separate piece as on the Rod.com kit. On the ISS non-hero version it is part of the main body of the gun.

1/16th inch thick acrylic was used by ISS for the inserts. This gun uses 1/8th inch thick acrylic.

The vents where the acrylic goes are too wide. They are much narrower on the ISS version.

Tape was used in the recasting to cover holes on the inside of the cowl. This happens when recasting. The tape is clearly seen visible having now left its impression in the casting. (P15)

SUMMARY

The only other place that used these colors, painted the bottom piece dark rather than light, made the drooping inset line, and had a pour spout inside the main body is on the HMS Phase Pistol Kit made for Rod.com. This is a HMS replica, similar to a HMS Rod.com kit and there is no way to deny that.

This is not an ISS version. No other vendor created these. This is a replica.

CONCLUSION

Craig Binkley, the prop master has said that he never gave Michael Moore any props as Moore claims.

The Phase Pistol is an HMS replica. It was not in existence when Michael Moore claimed he was given it by the prop Master.

The EM 33 is clearly a replica as well. And based on Mike's claims of the Phase Pistol, his claims on the EM 33 are not credible.

Propworx is pleased to announce our Star Trek Auction VIII, featuring the collection of award winning costume designer Robert Blackman! Robert worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation from season three through seven, as well as all of Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. His massive collection consists of over 300 pieces of original hand drawn and computer generated concept artwork spanning all three shows.

Along with his collection of concept artwork this auction will feature cast and crew gifts from Robert, and a selection of production used scripts and production material. Data Arm for Sale at Prop Store

Data's arm from the episode "Phantasms" is up for sale at Prop Store. It is rather expensive, but cool none the less.

From Prop Store:

Data’s (Brent Spiner) hand and sleeve from the sci-fi television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The piece was made for the sixth episode of the seventh series, titled “Phantasms,” for a nightmare sequence experienced by Data where he was attacked and dismantled by workmen.

The hand has been cast in latex and painted gold to match Data’s skin tone. The hand extends up into a forearm, also made from latex which is covered by a length of a uniform sleeve with a brown satin lining. A thin metal rod is located within the arm which was held by the actor during filming. There are slight chips and marks to the paint on the hand. The piece remains overall in good condition. Dimensions: 53.5 cm x 17 cm x 7 cm (21” x 6 ¾” x 2 ¾”)

Item size - 36.61" x 6.69" x 2.76" (93.0cm x 17.0cm x 7.0cm)

While an interesting item, you would have to be a total Data nut to shell out $ 5,989 for this prop. That is an rather high price for what I would guess is a $ 3,000 prop (and that again would be for someone who just loved the character).

Also, what is the provenance of the item? Where did it come from? I am always big on this. Not that it is likely that this is a fake. None the less, every prop seller owes the buyer the provenance of an item or how it was authenticated.

A faux instrument board made for scenes in various episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise. The item is composed of sheet plastic with rounded corners and graphical applications adhered to its face. The item depicts multi-colored indicators and statically positioned gauges. The indicators are labeled ‘CMD’ on one item and “AUX’ on the other. The item measures approx. 12.5 X 5.25 inches.

Ricardo Delgado Bio:

Ricardo Delgado is a film and comic book artist. He has worked on acclaimed films such as The Incredibles, Men in Black, and Apollo 13. Delgado is the creator of the Age of Reptiles comic book series, as well as one of the Production Designers of Disney's Atlantis – The Lost Empire. In early 2000 he published the four issue sci-fi series "Hieroglyph".

He worked as an illustrator for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's first season. It was his idea to place a baseball card on Captain Sisko's desk in the series as a decorative item, leading to the creation of the Buck Bokai character. Delgado was heavily involved in designing the station and its interiors such as ops and the promenade. The starships he designed include the Miradorn starship that was seen in DS9: "Vortex". He also worked as an illustrator on Star Trek: First Contact.

MACO Space Suit from Enterprise

MACO Space Suit

This suit was originally made for the motion picture "The Core" and later rented by the Enterprise Costume Department. Sadly the costume hasn't aged well and jumpsuit and the back pack have had considerable deterioration. Shoes, gloves etc. look fine. It still displays very well, there's no problem to the thick jumpsuit itself, just the outer layer.

Klingon Dentist Chair

Propworx customer David Hirsch is a dentist and brings his hobby to work. David has actually converted a screen used Klingon Captain's chair for use in his dentist office!

What every Star Trek Themed Orthodontic Office needs- a screen used Klingon Command chair. Just completed the LED base for it.

This distinctly iconic Klingon bridge chair was custom-made by the production for use by various actors and as set dressing in the various Star Trek television series including Star Trek: The Next Generation. Two add-on components, above the headrest and on the back are attached with screws and were also used separate from the chair in various episodes including the season seven episode of Voyager titled "Repression".

Truly amazing and congrats to David for really making his hobby part of his daily life!
